Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
I just noticed that the latest version of Sprint Navigation for the Touch Pro 2 is 2.8. However, the version on my phone (included with the update to WM 6.5) is 2.1.42, and I cannot find the download for 2.8. Where is it?

Usually the program will offer the update itself. I found a 2.8 cab update from Telenav, but it didnt list the Touch Pro 2 as a compatible device. Only the Touch pro. I downloaded it and ran it on mine figuring their not too much different.
It took a couple attempts to get it started, but on the third try it finally booted up and logged in. When it loads, the main menu at the top says "Sprint Navigation Lite". Ive attached it to this message if you want to give it a try. GL :salute: |
Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
If you are ok, try the bing cab here its free and pretty good and has every thing like a garmin navi device.

Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
Remember, please, that Sprint Nav and TeleNav are not the same thing.

Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?

Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
kilmarac is correct I do believe

Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
Sprint Nav is just the sprint specific customized and branded version of Telnav.

Just my speculation here lol..! |

However I do prefer 5.5 only because the Speak it option allows you to talk directly into your device for text to speech, unlike 2.8 which calls a number first to use the speak it option. Heres the list of current versions from Sprints site: http://navigation.sprint.com/devices.html |

Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
either way, you guys helped me out considerably.
i have used sprint nav for several years, and never had a problem with it. i have used it dozens of times, but obviously those were all daytime trips cuz i noticed this weekend driving from arkansas to north dakota that the 2.1.x versions do not have a night mode and the white maps create quite a bit of glare. arrived at my destination, got on ppcg to bitch, and bam, this post. updated to 2.8 and nightmode is in the genaral options. should make the drive home a little more convenient. can someone verify if the 5.5 telnav has a nightmode? |
Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
also...i went to the OTA and it did automatically begin the 2.8 download.
however, now 2.1 and 2.8 are both installed and neither are in the uninstall app list... any suggestions?? |

gets the regular TeleNav. It has 5.5.24 for the HTC Rhodium (the Touch Pro 2), and nothing at all for the Samsung Intercept. http://ota.telenav.com/ota/sn/nav is the hyperlink specific to Sprint Navigation. It has 2.8.0.18 for the HTC Rhodium (Touch Pro 2), and 2.8 for the Samsung SPH-M910 (Intercept). |
Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
calling to speak info is such a waste of time. can't stand it! i have started to use bing and think that it's a wonderful alternative to sprintnav.

Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
I actually kind of like calling in, seems to be better speech recognition and it gets the right address every time.
but that's just my opinion |
Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
Thanks for all the helpful comments on here!

Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
I have used IGo (bought some time ago for a PDA), Bing, Google Maps and Sprint.
IGo is the best for long trips, as long as the maps are somewhat up to date. However, Bing is my overall favorite. It does have some silly routing issues sometimes. But it's always up to date, it's got a very useful turn-by-turn navigation (beats Google for WM), best speech recognition. Sprint Nav is laggy and it has problems with voice volume, at least the stock one. |
Re: Sprint Navigation 2.8 where?
Bing gets you nothing but lost if you use it...I absolutely abhor it. I want my Live Search back...but yea, just used SN to get to Atlanta and back with no issues what so ever.

Bing once made me get out of freeway and then immediately go back into the freeway. Sprint Nav tried to make me do a U-turn in a divided highway by turning right. You just have to pay attention & preview the list mode for obvious errors. However, Bing (1) is not nearly as laggy - it refreshes the screen much more often; (2) it doesn't have that annoying issue with maximum volume still being pretty low; (3) it tends to have a much better speech recognition (4) it can search by contacts address. All of course are subjective opinions. |
