Pagepool???
Ok can someone please explain to me what the pagepool is for?? I currently have mine set to 12. I was wanting to reflash and do 16. Just from hear say, so can someone explain to me exactly what pagepool is for and what it does?? Higher versus lower pagepools and the pros and cons of doing either? It would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Pagepool???
I'll put a quick bit of info from what I've gleaned so far from this site concerning PagePool on here..
Apparently (correct if wrong) it can make your device run smoother. Most people put it on 32, but no higher than that or it can eff up some programs...for instance Opera has a lot of trouble if you have it on 64 apparently. I don't have a TP2 yet so I have no first-hand experience. All I know haha, sorry. |

Here's where I got that from...

Re: Pagepool???
I usually stick with 16 for stability. Higher values are faster, but seem to crash more often. Lower values, don't do it! Of course 16 should work ok on most roms, even stock...

Re: Pagepool???
i could be wrong but i think 6.5 changed the rules when it comes to pagepool.
6.1 made a HUGE difference when changing value but with 6.5 it doesn't seem to do much. haven't seen much posted about it since 6.5 came out on the tp1. |
Re: Pagepool???
I use a 16mb pagepool in my ROM. Bigger or smaller really doesn't seem to make a huge difference.12mb pagepool is generally used on Verizon ROMs.

Re: Pagepool???
16 looks to be what I'll try when I purchase mine. Thanks for making this thread young, I learned something haha.

Re: Pagepool???
I use 8 on my custom 6.5.x ROM - really don't notice a difference with higher numbers.
32? I have never seen that before! 12 and 16 seem to be pretty common, and 20 is considered high. Recommendation - flash it with several different pagepool sizes and pick the lowest number that seems quick and responsive to you. You're wasting program memory if you set it higher than that (whatever that number ends up being for you). |

Re: Pagepool???
Ok so I did some testing and I am able to tell the difference. IMHO 16 is the best so far. I tried 12 and after loading it up with programs it started slowing down on me. Even from a fresh flash it seems to me 16 slides smoother and programs initiate faster. I was on 12 and it just wasnt as responsive. I even did 0 and that was a big no no. lol. I tried 20 after reading this thread and yes it does rum a little faster than norm but my internet for some reason was eeeeeextra slow. I went back to 16. I tried 0, 10, 12, 16, and 20. Out of those 16 seems to me to be the best one.Opera is quick...after some tweaking of course. And my TF is nice and smooth. Even after a wake up out of sleep/standby. 12 would lag a bit before sliding smoothly. 0 just took forever to finally load correctly. 20 was probably the fastest but other progrmas werent running correctly. Opera, IE, and some installed apps. 10 was way to choppy for me. 15 is what the Stock Sprint 6.5 is and that was pretty sturdy too. I like 16 better. Only because it seems just a bit smoother when it comes to scrolling and programs loading after waking up my device from its slumber. Thanks for all of Ur inputs. Helped me make a great choice. My phone is rrunning fabulous now.

I tried them all myself on 6.5 one day when I was bored at work & if there was any difference at all it was too small to notice (I think it's more of a placebo effect than anything) ~John |

I thought, huh - this is a bit faster. Then I flashed back to 8. And, you know, it was just as fast! Placebo effect is right! I could tell a real difference in 6.1, never really tested 6.5, but in 6.5.x can't really tell a difference. Next step - I'll try 2MB PP. Will report back. EDIT: 2MB is SLOW... (Takes forever to boot, but works) So pagepool still matters in 6.5.x. |
Re: Pagepool???
i've set mine at 0 (zero) for a while now.
Dynamic seems to work VERY well though many of the modules seem as though they stay in memory once they are used. Previously, I used 20MB, but I make a pretty balanced ROM = not "loaded" but plenty of packages built in. |
