LAG! Unresponsive
I am getting to my wits end with the 6.5 and the lag issues I have been dealing with. There are times that the phone will freeze for 10-15 seconds. An example is trying to close out of the text/email screen, or when finishing a call from an unknown caller; I get the screen option to add the name to contacts. I click add new contact or existing contact and LAG! 15 seconds every time easily.
I have clear temp and cleanram installed and run them daily, sometimes more often. All of my apps, etc are saved to my card. I have deleted Sprint bloatware like NASCAR, TV, NFL, etc. What am I missing? What can I do? Besides flashing to custom or getting another phone what are the options? Lag makes me hate my WinMO phone! |
Re: LAG! Unresponsive
i feel your pain. lag is just part of winmo combined with older hardware... it was the final breaking point for me to look into getting a secondary device that was faster. i just can't afford such frustrating load times for basic things like searching the net and texting

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
It helps if you keep very few text messages and emails on your phone. HTC Sense does some wacky crap when you have a bunch of either.

I dont understand why Windows Mobile doesnt scream considering the OS is basically the same thing from 6 years ago. You'd think on new hardware like the TP2, it'd fly.. |

I guess the fact that Microsoft pretty much gave up and resigned itself to do small patches instead of major upgrades on windows mobile years ago is what leads to the inevitable lag and frustration. |

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
Yea, custom roms help a lot. Completely worth the small amount of time it takes to accomplish. Doesn't solve every problem, but makes the phone tolerable most of the time.

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
x3, flashing is the way to go...

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
Guys its manilla, not windows mobile. The phone is not that slow. Try the latest version of spb mobile shell on a rom without manilla.

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
Try lighter ROM, I suggest SUPER ROM, trust me, it's my own experience.
You never regret it. If there's no lighter ROM than the stock ROM I already in Android zone, :p, but now my friend jealous with my RhodiumW speed. btw my friend use Milestone. Yeah of course that woud be different if he use EVO or Nexus, it's have faster processor. |

Would it be the same if we have a rom with manila but disable it and use spb mobile shell Instead of flashing a rom without manila? |

Manila is dog slow. Don't believe me? Try iphonetoday, SPB Mobile Shell, or biganand's rom with MaxSense all *much* faster. I feel your pain on the contact manager. Personal favorite is Iconsoft PhoneEx v2.2 though the SPB Mobile Shell contact manager isn't too bad and much faster. Oh, flashing a custom rom goes a long way too. More free space and no bloatware. You can always install stuff like Sprint TV in a cab if you wish. For something simple, try MightyRom 6.5/m2.1 (2-10-2010), my "good ol' standby" ROM. |
Re: LAG! Unresponsive
yep, my custom TP2 with mobile shell was a joy to use.
Now my HD2 is smoking. I would have loved to see what a tp2 with 1ghz and double the ram could do. 312mb of free RAM on start up. (not to mention 688 of program memory) |
Re: LAG! Unresponsive
I am running NRG's 23569 ROM, using sense 2.5 (I turn off the weather animation with CHT) & my system runs really fast & smooth. It runs well enough that I have no desire whatever to switch to Android at this time although I probably will eventually.
I install EVERYTHING to the phone memory except for GPS maps that are huge. I also keep my SMS inbox cleaned out regularly (it always cracks me up when someone says "my phone has been lagging really bad ever since I restored 4200 text messages") ~John |
Re: LAG! Unresponsive
If you could get someone to cook up a 6.5 fixed stock rom like Mr. X did for Verizon, you'd be done with SODs, freezing, lag, whathaveyou. When I first flashed 6.5, it was *horrible*, I was taking the battery out every time I wanted to use the phone! Now, no SODs whatsover. So there's that :)

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
And there are some of us with stock ROMs, heavy email usage, et cetera with no problems. Lags though do occur, but none like you describe. What email application are you using? I used Flexmail successfully on my TP, but it caused the TP2 to slow way down and kill the battery.

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
I have not noticed the lag issue I had after I switched to the MR2 Rom. It still has a ton of bugs but that at least is gone

The problem I think you are having is that you have it set to check your emails every 10 minutes. If you have 3 emails to check, and each one takes 1-2minutes to update, your phone is always processing, so when you go to do something else, it has to change gears. But your best bet for business might be a no nonsense blackberry. |

Should add that i need the phone to be on Sprint |

Bostonbull, you mentioned calling and adding contacts. Try installing this program and let me know what you think. *Much* faster than Manila dialer/contact manager. IconSoft PhoneEx http://www.iconsoft.com/?language=en...e094db10fc83b1 Also, if you must have Sense, the manila 2.5 that comes on the Sprint 6.5 Rom is much slower than 2.1. Let me know! |

Re: LAG! Unresponsive
Concur on the kill manilla and just run SPB Mobile Shell ... I've been running Formula's ROM for awhile, much more responsive
I also like emptying the email wastebaskets periodically ... seems to help ... any way to automate this? |
