Exchange-like contact synchronization without exchange?
Is there a mail service that allows you to manage via outlook (imap i suppose) that will also sync with the phone contacts?
I want to add a contact to either outlook client or phone and have it wirelessly synch both ways, without exchange server. Unless you know a free exchange server? |

set your server address to m.google.com and that should pretty much do it. one other thing to note is that you have to turn OFF task sync or it won't work.

Re: Exchange-like contact synchronization without exchange?
I am able to get activesync to connect to m.google.com and sync my email and contacts, however not the calendar. I have a google calendar, but as soon as I select to sync that, it starts failing.

Try Microsoft MyPhone.
Syncs everything you need. Contacts, Tasks, Mail, SMS, Calendar, Files. |
Re: Exchange-like contact synchronization without exchange?
Myphone will back up those things, but not sync them to a mail server which can also be synced to a laptop/outlook.
I do not have Tasks selected. If I sync to just mail/contacts it works fine, if I add calendar it fails, if I remove calendar it starts working again. |
Re: Exchange-like contact synchronization without exchange?
strange, im assuming that you have enabled full imap support on your gmail side? i just checked and there are no calendar settings really on google. another thought when i have had some issues, you can only sync those items to one source sometimes without errors. is your phone set up to sync you calendar to both your computer and to google? try turning it off on the computer side and see if it works then
if it does and you still need some way to get your calendar into outlook then just look for google calendar sync for the pc... it will pull your calendar info down from the cloud and can also push it up so you dont have to stay logged in to google calendar |
