N00b questions

I was going to post these questions individually in different posts, thought it will be easier to just have it one post and maybe if some one else has any other questions they can add to the post:
1. How do I turn HTC Sense off. I
2. I have poker installed in my device, however it is only available in the real dice folder, how do I make a shortcut to the start page or to add to the quicklinks. ( found answer for this) I was able to add to quicklinks but wasnt able to find it in the home page.
3. How do I check the memory usage? When someone says the memory usage is around 90% where do you see it?
4. How do I close a window, for example when I go to my inbox and press the x button on the right hand corner the window closes, but when I look at task manager, it shows that my mailbox is running in the background.
5. Is there a way to double click to open an app instead of single click, when I try to swipe I accidentally open an app and it is getting annoying.
6. When I press start the start key at the top is there a way to make the page go to the home page with the clock, quicklinks etc instead of the home screen ( don’t know what you call this page).
7. When I install a cab, I usually download it to the storage device, when it asks whether to install to device or storage card, I usually specify device but once in a while I select storage card by accident but the program still shows up like the programs I install on my device. What is the advantage of installing it in device over storage card? and does it make a difference?
Thanks in advance.

Re: N00b questions

1) Start > settings > Today. Click the items tab at the bottom and then uncheck HTC sense

2) make a .lnk file.

3) Start > Settings > System > Memory

4) Start > settings > system > task manager. Browse to the button tab and select your desired settings.

5) Never researched it, i'm sure there are methods out there.

6) I have no idea what you are talking about lol sorry.

7) Just saves room...for large programs it could be useful. The only downside is that you can't use the programs if you happen to take out your card.

Re: N00b questions

1 Attachment(s)
1. Settings/Home/Items, uncheck HTC Sense

2. You already found the answer.

3. Settings/System/Memory (that’s where you can see it). For this I would recommend installing HTC task manager, I will attach the cab.

4. Settings/System/Task manager, click on the Button tab. Then select Close app when clicking X.

5. Not that I know of.

6. Just don’t have a answer for that.

7. Depending on what kind of program you are using, you may see a difference is quality running from the storage card. Programs that run all the time I would strongly recommend installing to the main memory. Installing programs that you only use now and then I could understand installing to the SD card.

Personally I install everything to the phone itself. Back in the days when you only had 32MB or 64MB you where really picky on what you installed to the main memory, now with the phones that are out I think they have plenty of memory to install just about everything to the main memory (exclusion for the people that think they need to have 200 programs install god only knows why).

it says 40 mb free but doesnt specify what programs are in use.

4) Start > settings > system > task manager. Browse to the button tab and select your desired settings.
I dont see a taskmanager, but I did see a buttons Start>settings> Personal> When I click on it, I see send button (hold)- voice command. How do I add any other button to it?

5) Never researched it, i'm sure there are methods out there.

6) I have no idea what you are talking about lol sorry.
I know I should be more clear.. when I press the start at the top of the screen it takes me to the page with Home, Text, email icons and when I press home it takes me to the page with clock, weather, quicklinks. I am just curious is there a way that when I press start at the top of the screen it will take me to the home page with clock, weather and quicklinks.

Thanks, the reason I was asking was it says only 10 mb available on device memory so wasnt sure if I should install anything more on the device.

Re: N00b questions

Thanks for both of your posts, I am just leaving the question that I still seek your answers.

4.To both of of your posts, I can go to Settings/all settings/System but dont see task manager. I am using HTC Touch pro2 wm 6.5 sprint stock rom, dont know if that makes a difference.
I think I can live without the rest, I realised the end key takes me to the home page so will use that for now.

If it's not there, install the program I attached and that will add it.

Re: N00b questions

You can probably map the start icon to the home screen, but why not just use the end key? I believe that will take you back to the home screen and keep all your programs open as well.

pistu 06-22-2010 05:27 PM

Re: N00b questions

That worked. thanks again.

Makes sense.

Here is a program that lets you change just about every button function on the phone (including double tap I believe):

I just want to say thank you for not opening up tons of different threads for all your questions! I hit thanks for you becuz of that. A lot of people not just the n00bs will post the same question all over place. I know that i have done it myelf in the past:-$
7. Wesley has some good advice on installing on Sd vs. Main memory. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in also. Some programs will only work when installed on the main memory. I keep all my cabs saved on my memory card but when install them i do it to the main memory. There are a couple that I have installed to my Sd card. The only way to find out is to install to the SD and try and run the program. If it doesnt work you need to install the main memory

Re: N00b questions

Alright one more question, I finally figured out how to sync my phone to my outlook exchange server. Now when I lock my phone the lock screen shows my calendar with the next upcoming task. Is there a way to disable it?

Wesley762 06-24-2010 10:13 PM

Re: N00b questions

Find a different lock screen to use.

pistu 06-28-2010 05:53 PM

Re: N00b questions

Thanks Wesley but have to stick to the default lockscreen due to password protections..
I am back again with my questions though :)
1. how do I remove the wording "sent from my Sprint HTC Touch Pro2" everytime I send a email. I have to delete it everytime I send an email but is there a way to remove the statement from coming up in the first place.
2. I installed the Jd task manager but it is messing up my cookie home tab so had to remove it, do I have to install some skd certs before I install the jd task manager? or is there another way to close a window by pressing the x button.

Mojary 06-28-2010 06:28 PM

Re: N00b questions

go to Start>Programs>Messaging>Menu>Outlook E-mail (should default to this as the choice)>Signatures. from there you can either check/uncheck signature box and also have the ability to change your signature to something more suitable for work (if you're using work email).

1) its in the messaging optioss somehwere, same place you change the text messaging signature

2) im not sure if it needs sdkcerts but it wouldnt hurt to install. i know it should be installed before you install a taskbar, possibly even CHT.

pistu 06-28-2010 06:40 PM

Re: N00b questions

Are you sure its the same in Sprint stock 6.5 rom?

As bad as I dont want to live up to your signature, when I click messaging i get two options msn messenger and tap to set up account, that didnt work. When I tried to go into account settings for the outlook that I have set up there is no such option as to edit signature all it has is the time to sync during peak hours and what sync such as calendar, mail etc.

It's not in Outlook, it's where Puff601 said.

Try Message>All Messages>Menu>Tools>Options>Signatures

pistu 06-28-2010 07:09 PM

Re: N00b questions

Got it thanks Puffs, it is in Start>Mail>options>signatures>outlook> uncheck the box to remove signature.

Re: N00b questions

How do I change the settings from worldphone to cdma only? also, I see the ssk tp2 dynamic resource proxy cab to increase speed and RAM but the posts are date early 2010, will it also work for the 6.5 version?

boredandtattooed 07-03-2010 11:30 AM

Re: N00b questions

talk button>menu>options>network tab..

dynam res cab your talking about is really from the original release of the TP2 when it only had 6.1.. device was slow and it did help big time back then..

i still have the same TP2 since launch, and those 2 cabs are still installed on my phone.. but with 6.5 we've debated here and there as to whether or not their really neccessary... they def wont mess anything up though if you try them..

get everything off your device, dont listen to the masses... the same people that say everything is stored on their devices, make up most of the people that complain about constant lag and chronic issues with the device... then wonder why...

store as much as possible on your card.. set as many temp/cache folders as possible to your card as well.. use the email attachments to storage card option also... keep your emails SUPER LOW if your going to use sense as it drags the launching of sense..

just my opinion

pistu 07-03-2010 02:33 PM

Re: N00b questions

yup I installed it and didnt make a difference...

Re: N00b questions

Back again with outlook exchange questions...
1. I finally figured out how to sync with outlook exchange and all my contacts synced with the outlook exchange.
2. I want to use the microsoft my phone as a back up to my contacts instead of my outlook exchange
3. I tried to uncheck the contacts check box from the sync option but it takes away all the contacts from my phone
4. I cant check the contact box on microsoft my phone app as the contact can be synced with only one microsft server.

Soo my question is how do I transfer my contacts to Microsoft my phone instead of outlook exchange.

It's ether one or the other can't use both at the same time.

I dont want to use both either. I want to use microsoft my phone instead of outlook exchange, but I couldnt transfer since everytime I uncheck the contacts box in outlook sync the contacts are lost and I cant transfer until I uncheck the contacts box in outlook sync.

I Think you could use a program like PIM backup to backup your contacts, than delete your Exchange account, restore your contact's and than sync with MyPhone.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705

You could give it a shot, and its Free to boot.

Re: N00b questions

Back again :) So my phone was lagging too much because of all the apps I had installed, so I ended up hard reseting the phone. now the questions:
1. When the phone is activated for the first use, I get the message "sim detected " and will change to global mode. How do I change it to cdma? or does it matter?

2. In the Connections- Advanced network> sms service> mine is sms over gsm. Other options are SMS over GPRS, GPRS preferred or GSM preferred.

Since sprint is CDMA, Do i have the change the settings to GPRS? not that I know what GPRS is but I know GSM is for us with sim card.

Whenever I use the text messages, I always have the lag, I assumed its because of some 100-200 msgs I have in my inbox, so was wondering if this may be one of the reason for the lag.

3. Under GPRS authenciation Method, there are two options:
1. PAP authenciation .
2. Chap authenciation
which one should I choose.

Wesley762 07-29-2010 07:49 PM

Re: N00b questions

to change from global to CDMA go to start/settings/personal/phone and you can change that there,

Leave the SMS settings just like they are that is the correct setting.

pistu 07-29-2010 07:59 PM

Re: N00b questions

Thanks that worked. I clicked on every single icon in that settings page except personal, thinking it would be just camera , photos option etc like personal stuff not the network.

Re: N00b questions

You could just uninstall the programs that you had installed.
Setting>systems> remove programs and choose which one you want to uninstall.

If you use HTC messaging, it tends to lag regardless. I use Window Messaging so once i get to a thousand text messages or so, I clear everything.
