Mac and ActiveSync problem

I have a MBP running 10.5.8 and I'm using MightyRom's WM 6.5. So far I've been able to get everything to work okay on my phone (used my friend's computer to flash roms).

I'm trying to install some medical software on my computer. I get to the point where I'm running the exe on my computer and it seems to be installing properly and then runs into a wall where it says "program cannot detect ActiveSync running, please run ActiveSync and try installing program again". Does anyone know any way to get the mac to look like ActiveSync is running? I've tried Syncmate, I have USB-to-PC set as ActiveSync on my computer, and nada.

Fellow Mac/TP2/SyncMate user here.

Let's start with the basics.
With the TP2 plugged in. On SyncMate, did you go to "Add connection" in the upper right hand corner next to the "Sync Now" button and select "Windows Mobile Device (USB)"?
Make sure you aren't selecting "WiFi".

From there, give it a minute or two and it will configure the drivers, Then it should sync flawlessly.

What is happening? "Nothing" is a little vague.
Is it showing the device as "Offline"? Is it registering at all? Is it connecting to your device like a usb storage card?

I just plug in my TP2. Load SyncMate and select "ActiveSync" on my TP2.

Re: Mac and ActiveSync problem

Yay, I'm not the only one out there!!!! :)

So yes, I can connect my TP2 to syncmate and it will find it and can sync without issue if I click on "sync now". So I have all that going and I try to install my Skyscape software. It finds a place, starts installing and probably around 80% of the way through, it gives me an error message saying "Setup could not detect ActiveSync software which is required to register/install this application on your PPC device....please run this installation again after installing ActiveSync"

Am I just dreaming that I can somehow get to this work on my mac? Or should I just give up now and try to commandeer my roommate's PC?

Haha, I know right. Using a Windows Mobile phone and owning a Mac? Not too common.

Alright, now I get what you are trying to do.

Here's what I think might be going on. I don't know about you, but I use the free version of SyncMate. If you look at the Touch Pro 2 profile on the device menu you'll notice that Active Sync is an expert function. Aka, you'll have to buy the full version. This is probably why it isn't working for you.

I am wondering how are you going about running an .exe on your Macbook?

Me personally, I've given up working on my Touch Pro 2 with my Mac. Especially since it creates all those OSX function ._folders.

Do you have Bootcamp or Virtualization software with USB function? If not using your roommates PC is probably the best bet.

Re: Mac and ActiveSync problem

Sigh. You're probably right. A girl can dream though :D

As for running exe's, I just found a new program called Darwine

http://darwine.en.softonic.com/mac/download

It can be a little buggy, but so far it's been working not too badly for me. It ran this damn exe up until Skyscape decided it had a bug up its butt (sorry, I get annoyed when companies will develop for every mobile platform, including the iPhone and iPad, but refuse to have any support for OSX....k, climbing down from soapbox now)

Thanks for the help - I'm gonna go sneak over to my roommate's PC now :angel4:

Re: Mac and ActiveSync problem

Yeah, that's probably what's causing half the problem.

Here's what I was talking about in SyncMate:

Darwine? Nice.
I'd check it out if I wasn't running 10.6.3, there's no Snow Leopard compatibility. :/
I use WineBottler, it's still in beta but it works. Slowly....
Also CrossOver, which is fairly neat. Let's you run anything in it's own little "bottle". The only issue is that you need to go through the process of bottling up each individual program. So it's a tad inefficient, especially if you have BootCamp or a PC laying around.

Best of luck!

I just bought a new MBP. Has anyone tried Missing Sync to sync their TP2? I'm thinking I will try this Syncmate. Just curious.
