Losing Field Focus

I don't know if anyone else gets bothered by this... but it really is bugging me.

So, the issue is with the input field losing focus when switching orientation.

Say you're reading a text message. (Portrait)
But then you want to reply back.
So, you click on the text field.
Then you get frustrated with the whole on-screen keyboard...
especially in portrait mode.

So, you flip it side ways (Landscape) and flip open the keyboard... and start typing away

... only to realize that your cursor just lost focus out of the input field
... causing you to retap the text field and retype everything.

Is there a cure? or is this another one of those WINMO thing that I need to live with?
