Traveling to South Korea (Sprint TP2)
I'm traveling to South Korea next month and dont know what I need to do to get my TP2 working.
With sprint the best option looks like doing a pre-paid SIM card, but I do not know how to go about this. Is there anyone who has traveled with the TP2 who could share some experience with me as to how I can do this? I dont know what my technical options are really, so if there are other ideas which would work well for me I'm open.... |

Re: Traveling to South Korea (Sprint TP2)
Basic story is to call Sprint (see below). Get the card (free) and a data plan (about $2.50/day) then I use Skype Mobile and have both voice and data on the cheap.

Re: Traveling to South Korea (Sprint TP2)
TP2 has been unlocked by Sprint originally, so when you get to South Korea, just buy prepaid sim there is much cheaper, then you can use without any issue. Data also works good there.

Re: Traveling to South Korea (Sprint TP2)
i've been in south korea since january. south korea has both cdma and wcdma (sim card, gsm) networks, as well as wimax. unfortunately, you are not able to buy a prepaid sim card and just use it in your touch pro 2 because of korean communication regulations. you are able to buy a worldwide sim from several online services at their rates and use it, but that's completely separate from the local korean services and will be at a higher rate than other people using local cell phone plans (even prepaid) here. it's not about the network, it's about the handset being approved for use in korea. i currently use sprint's worldwide data plan which offers unlimited 1xcdma data and cdma voice at a per minute rate ($2.29/minute). text messaging is not currently available in korea with sprint. calls to sprint international customer service are free (002-1-817-698-4199). quality of service is excellent as far as coverage. data speeds are choked a bit since it's only 1x that is offered for sprint's worldwide data plan. voice calls are perfect. skype works perfectly, of course better on wifi but it gets the job done with 1x cellular data as well. worldwide data plan is fantastic, for $70/month, i can use data basically anywhere in the world, and it works instantly without any fuss. to those that say to just unlock your phone and buy a sim when you get here, i can tell you that it's not possible to use a local plan with your handset. for voice calls here, i just got another cell phone here for free and pay about $15 per month to use it. i use data mostly with wifi, and 1x when on the move. it works well. i've asked sprint international if i can use the htc evo with countries that have the wimax frequency already implemented but they either say "no" or that they are not sure. if you have any more questions about worldwide travel in asia and europe, let me know.
