Today Slow Load

Okay,

This one is beginning to annoy, since a lot of applications and tweaks require a soft reset in order to work. But, Why is it, that I softreset, it boots up. Shows the Sprint Animated Logo, then the Windows Boot up logo, and then my start menu background. That was 5 minutes ago and I still have not yet seen the Today Screen. Other programs work, but the Today screen will not load up. Once an application is running, I hit the X in the corner, and the app is closed but the display doesn't refresh.

I want the phone to boot DIRECTLY to the Today screen, and load the start menu in the background, so that I can start using the phone immediately after boot up.

Secondly, I want the phone to boot. I turned off the phone completely. Then Turned it back on. When it said "Launching HTC Sense" I stepped into the shower. When I came back to the phone after the shower, it was off, most likely in power save mode. I hit the power button. Nothing Happened. I unplugged it from the wall, and tried the power button again. Still nothing. I hit the power button 47 times, and nothing happened. I Held the power button down, and nothing happened. I plugged it into my computer. Nothing happened. Continued trying the power button. Nothing happened. I unplugged it from the computer and suddenly it pops on with the activesync selection screen disappearing.

This is totally unacceptable. I'm using the Stock Sprint WM 6.5 ROM for the TP2. There absolutely no reason for the power button to ever be unresponsive. What is it doing? Why does the boot up take 20 minutes? What can I do to stream line this process so that when necessary, and I have to reboot the device. I can actually be using it in less time than it takes to boot up my 10 year old desktop.

Thanks

The first two screens will always show. at least ive never found a way to skip them... also, by "Today Screen" do you mean the Home Tab in Sense?
if so, then this can't load until the OS is loaded, which is why you see the "Start Menu screen". this actually just the default wallpaper for the windows part of your device (you can change it if you want). if Sense is not loading, try making sure that you have it turned on. Start > Settings > Home > Items tab. Make sure "Sense" is checked.

Change all your boot screens to black? lol just kidding, Sense 2.5 is really memory heavy, I don't think there's much else you can do other than use something else. once's its up and you got everything you want installed you don't reboot much. I know it's a pain in the butt when your getting things setup the way you like it but if your going to use Sense thats just kinda how it is.

you can speed up all the boot animation.. and get rid of it.. you need a custom rom without HTC animation cooked in.. not common at all as Chefs like to leave their sig as the animation... you may have to cook a Rom yourself without it... you can change them.. welcomehead_192.png is the wallpaper screen, startup_480x800.gif is the animated screen.. an app like advanced config, can manage the time both of these last as well, i dont think that feature of Adv Conf is 6.5 compatible though...

but that just gets you to the ...loading sense screen faster though.... keep your txts and email super slim to none and it does boot a a little bit faster.. bbut if you have 4 email accounts and 500 messages in each, its gonna take AWHILE to load...

thats about it... but i agree, it shouldnt take 1-2 minutes for the device to be operational... if we needed to make a 911 call that our lives depended on, from a powered off phone, we'd be screwed for sure

Well, i'll prolly be customizing the animation and the opening screen at some point, but i need to get a descent gif animation editor first...

Ahh, actually. Yea, i remember a setting on my TP that allowed me to determine how many emails the phone kept in storage per account. But I can't find it on the TP2. I went into the accounts, but I didn't see any thing that said: download X most recent or ALL or whatnot, so all my accounts on the phone download everything...where is that setting to force the phone to only keep the most recent 25 emails?

hehehehehe, maybe that should be something reported to HTC about: "I was stranded and needed to call 911, but my phone wouldn't boot"

Thanks for info, i guess it is just frustrating since I'm still in that "Setup" phase which means, some times I have to reset the phone 2 or 3 times to get it to boot up completely.

BTW: what other options are there to Sense? Is there something better out there?
Thanks

I don't know if this helps, but I disable 2.5. I use the windows default screen that was all the rage back on the 6700 and wm5. That might not really be a solution as I know a lot of people are attached to manilla. But it just takes so much memory, adds a small amount of usability (pretty tabs) that's not necessary for using the phone as a phone, and slows down the phone when I need it most. Anyone else run the windows default?
