Advice: Verizon TP2 in Ecuador?
I'm currently running the excellent and fast Mighty ROM on my Verizon TP2. I'm thinking of going to Ecuador. I hear they use "GSM-850" networks with SIM cards. I've heard that MightyROM won't work on GSM networks.
Should I unlock the SIM card and flash back to the stock ROM? Are there fast GSM-based ROMs that should work in Ecuador with a SIM card purchased there? Thanks in advance! |
Re: Advice: Verizon TP2 in Ecuador?
I have been following international use on the forum and you are the first to Ecuador. Unfortunately I know more about Sprint than Verizon. I am afraid I would call Verizon and see if they have an international dataplan like Sprint. This is what I have used all over with Skype to cover the voice. Has been very cheap.
Please report back what you do and how it worked for the records here. |

why wouldn't mighty work with the proper sim card??? you can't flash mighty to gsm only phones, but this is a different situation.

Yes it should work but you need to call vzw global services and have the sim card slot unlocked.

Re: Advice: Verizon TP2 in Ecuador?
I would flash your phone back to stock if you are going to be traveling internationally.
There are some settings especially for GSM data that are a pain to set on non stock roms. A stock rom ensures that your phone has the correct APN set for Verizon global data. Voice roaming is extremely expensive on Verizon, expect to pay $2-3 a minute. Data roaming is expensive unless you buy their Global Email plan, it is $65 dollars a month. So if you have a $30 data plan it will be $35 extra for the month. If you are only going for a week they will prorate it so that you will pay much less. |
