[SOLVED] Google Maps 4.1 Current Location is unavailable
 

While inside my work, i get this error. I know for a fact at some point in the past it worked inside my work. I remember it saying your location with 1800 meters or something to that affect.

Obviously, I know I can't get a true GPS lock inside this building, but I just want this my location working too.

My location works fine in the weather in sense ui, and GPS works fine outside.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

The release from 4-21 does location saving.

A while back I checked the GPS box in settings and then it seemed like it only looked for a GPS lock and didn't use towers anymore. I unchecked "use GPS" and it found me in buildings again. Seemed like it should have been able to do both and I actually thought maybe I did something wrong in my ROM build. Anyway, maybe that is the problem you are having?

Try this...it always works for me if Google My Location is not working for some reason...

Well what is the error? Also, just push the blue dot to see if it will use triangulation.

That is the error (Current location is unavailable) when I click the blue square.

Yes, this is the problem I am having. When outside, GPS locks fine... Inside when I cant receive a GPS signal and I turn off the GPS from within Gmaps, it doesn't find my location based on tower info, but the weather works and updated my location fine from the same building.

I am still using the 3.2.1 , its the only one that works for me at all.

Well, 4.1 includes voice search and it works extremely well. So much so, I doubt I could use it without voice search.

when i downloaded this version i was getting that error as well. when i went to menu/settings i saw that the enable my location line had a gray checkmark next to it. So i assumed it was checked. After a while i went back and clicked it to turn it green. It was then able to find my location within 20 meters.

If it found your location within 20 meters, it was GPS based, not cell tower based.

the point is that i had the same error you had before i made sure that"enable my location" was checked. As i said the initial check mark was gray so i assumed it was already checked. I rechecked it and it turn green and then it worked. I dont get your point...

If I understand correctly, he is asking why is Assisted GPS not working (where the phone uses cell phone towers to triangulate ones position, rather than the GPS locator.)

For the record I am experiencing the same problem with the new (Voice) version of Google Maps. When it can't find a GPS satellite, it refuses to update my location completely. I am using Mr.X's Sense 2.5 rom from 4-10-10.

Yes... I am wondering why when I disable the GPS but leave "My Location" enabled from within Google Maps 4.1, I cannot get an approximate location based on triangulation of cell towers. I know from previous experience at some point in the past this feature worked from within the same physical building.

And by the way I am running Mr X 4-20... hmmm

Hey everyone.... someone should really rename this thread to 'Google Maps 4.1 "My Location" AGPS not working' to avoid any confusion.

TURN ON WIFI
Anyways, I had the same issue with newer versions of google maps even before gMaps 4. A solution i found is that if you turn on Wifi then gMaps My Location based on AGPS works. You do not need to be connected to a wifi network, you simply need to have the wifi radio turned on.

The above work around works on Medium Hill roms.

Just outta curiosity why dont one of you guys install this cab, then go down to GPS and select "Enable AGPS"
The soft reset and see if that makes any difference.

wow... turned on wifi and then fired up Gmaps... clicked the blue square and voila! it started working... =D>

Kinda a PITA to have to do that every time though.. Any solutions which don't require firing up wifi to work?

PS... I'll try the cab posted below and find out if that works too.

I installed and went to GPS.. Assisted GPS was already enabled. Thought I'd give you feedback on your suggestion.

My GPS would not work until I did that GPS reg edits people suggested in one thread. I now use my location/cell tower location all the time when my GPS isn't up yet, which takes a few seconds. I do not have AGPS enabled.

same thing for me, turning on wifi, must turn something on enabling my location to work without gps fix.
that is dumb.

So I took cmajewsk's reg file he posted above and created a cab for it. I loaded the cab and soft reset.

It appears at first glance that "My location" of GMaps is now working even without GPS to get a lock and more importantly without turning on Wifi.

Others who are having the same problem, please test out this cab and see if it resolves your issue.

You will need to soft reset after installation.

Let me know if this works for anyone else!
