Touch Pro 2 future problems
hello fellow geeks! Im sorta new to this wonderfull and helpfull community. I have a questions for those of you who have had the Touch Pro 2 for a long time now. What are the common problems with this ppc? We all remember the Touch Pro 1 problems that almost we all got. Like the dead keyboards are a 2 to 4 month use. And the oily screen from the lcd delaminating. And the chrome pealinf off. And finally the awful constant over heating that made the phone not charge at all. Now..... what are the common problems u all have come to a agreement that the tp2 has and will mostly have? Im about into 1 month with the tp2 and so far nothing has shownj up. knock on wood.

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
The keyboards are much better on these devices, I have only seen 1 or 2 cases since having the phone in september being mentioned. Beyond that the only damage to the phone is from me dropping it. If by the oily screen you are referring to newton ring, yes some devices have had it happen, but probably from sitting in the sun or being exposed to extreme conditions, not from normal use. Never had any chrome or paint peel off the phone. My phone doesn't overheat and everyone who has switched has mentioned similarly that it doesn't overheat like the tp1 (use an oem charger though to not risk destroying your phone). Beyond that I've had my phone since US release day and everything still works great.
If anything the only downside is when you get a tp2 it requires some personalization for it to really scream. |
Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
I had a tp1 and it sucked. I got the tp2 and it rocks. I really did have lots of the problems you are talking about. The tp2 upgrade to 6.5 for Sprint caused me more headaches than anything, but it seems people have figured out how to clean it up and tweak the problems. on a RARE occasion my phone will suddenly shut off and restart by itself....who the heck knows. I LIKE it LOTS. I don't foresee upgrading to anything else because it is more than enough phone for me!!!

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
so you can rule out the overheating issue and dead keyboard? looks like the real only issue here is possible the oily desalination on the screen that looks like a blob of a rainbow.
Also whats the main reason everyone took their phone in for a replacement? |
Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
The oil screen you mentioned is still a very persistent issue with the TP2. I have had 3 phones with this. Also, the microphone on the Verizon models seems to go out in some. These are the issues I have had. Just be very careful with the screen

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
i've had mine since october and still have the same one! this thing is built like a tank, and i'm a very heavy user!

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
I hate how many touch pro 2's I've went through. I'm not even hard on it at all. The only thing I do that apparently is a sin for this phone is put it in my pocket. If anyone has had the same phone since September/October....you have been extremely lucky.

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
lol, i knocked on my own head! truefully, the only problems with a tp2 is memory. but that's why i got a hd2, it runs 6.5 like the tp2 is supposed to.
|
Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
I wish I had an HD2. I'm jealous haha. I'm holding out until my TP2 goes out again (should be another month or so lol), then I think I'm going to pick up a Droid Incredible

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
I'm really growing to hate the Touch Pro 2, but ah well.
The major thing I miss about the Touch Pro 1 was memory. I never had out of memory issues on it and they plague the Touch Pro 2 like a cancer. I'm getting to the point where I'll probably just give this phone to someone. It is getting really REALLY annoying. |

In all seriousness, I'm really starting not to like it too |

I can't stand having to reset the phone multiple times a day to free up RAM. Or getting hangs because of lack of RAM. I can't handle stuff just not working. It is problematic since I use the phone for business. I had many failed Keyboards on my TP1, but I didn't have constant hangs or out of memory issues. |
Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
only hardware defect i have experienced with my previous tp2 was a bad usb port.

to the OP, the only hardware problems I have seen consistently complained about on this forum are funky usb ports (either stop recognizing on the computer or die completely), funky 3.5 ports (doesn't always recognize when headphones are disconnected), and rainbow banding (I still think most of these are user caused, but I'm probably in the minority on this one). I have had this phone since sprint launch and have had none of these problems, though you can tell the usb is a little funky becuase if you wiggle the cord while connected to the computer, it will connect/disconnect on you. |
Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
I've had the TP2 since December and the only hardware issues I've noticed are: (1) loose USB connector that can fall out occasionally if I move the phone around too much; (2) my back door is starting to crack.
As for phone resets, the TP2 is not so different from the BB Pearl, where I had to do the same due to memory leaks. Am I bored with the TP2? Yes, a little. But there is nothing on the market right now that interests me. |

I'm a 19 year old college student. What am I going to do...carry my phone around on a belt clip like a 50 year old CEO or something? I don't think so. Maybe carry around in a man purse strapped around my shoulder? Not a chance. I would rather carry my phone in my pocket, like every single other person that has a cell phone does nowadays, and get replacements as needed. I mean, I pay my $7 a month for something right? I might as well use it for a good cause, and when this phone craps out after warranty is out, that is what I will do. I refuse to change my ways of carrying a phone to adjust to the screen on this device, and I accept that this will cause my phone's screen to go bad. I accept this and am comfortable with this. Until I get a capacitive screen device where this issue does not exist, then I will continue to get refurbished phone after refurbished phone until my warranty runs out or I decide to purchase a superior-screened device. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Touch-Pro2-T...item3cac92a33b but to each their own. maybe in time sprint will decide that rainbow banding is not a defect but caused by the owner and start charging you 100.00 to replace it. not just resistive screens: http://phandroid.com/2010/03/05/nexu...n-your-pocket/ |
Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
I've heard of that too with the Nexus One. The only phones I've heard of with screen problems, be it rainbow banding and cracked screens, are HTC devices. That is unless the users drops the device and shatters the screen like some people tend to do with iPhones, but that is besides the point.
Is it just HTC or are other phone companies having problems with user error causing screens to malfunction? |

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
Incredible how sensative the htc screens are. On all my htc devices the lcds get scratched with feathers. If you have a debit or id card in your pocket and you put your phone for a second in there, you are guaranteed to het a minor scratch.

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
capacitive screens are made of glasss and composite. thats y they are more resistant to being scratched. resistive screens are plastic. thats y a feather seems to even leave amark

Re: Touch Pro 2 future problems
