Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
I've had the HTC Incredible for the past 4 days and yes it is fast, Eclair 2.1 w/ sense is nice (very nice!) BUT...as of right now it cannot:
Can't install/run programs like UConvert, or customize almost ANYTHING, like on WM 6.5, to your liking....I guess I have to be patient, it is "brand new"...I feel like I have an iPhone :(....has anyone experienced this feeling? I really got it for the Snapdragon and more RAM...but so far..I think "Desire" is a better name for this phone...you desire it, but it is not quite "incredible". I know things will be better when rooting is available.... For me? I wish Verizon would have copped the HD2 instead....I know WM is on it's way out (?), but until then, I would have preferred the HD2 since I have a Win PC..and I'm use to dealing with Windows glitches/quirkiness. :) Who else has switched? What are your thoughts/feelings? UPDATE: Thanks EVERYONE for their feedback. I've just had a holy sh*t eureka moment! The HTC Incredible does not come with a CD ROM for installing HTC Sync or a manual for that matter....reason being...it is on the device! Plug the USB into your PC and select "Disk Drive" to access the hard disk on the device...presto! You'll see the HTC Sync exe and the .pdf instruction manual! Install the .exe on your PC, walk through the wizard and all of your contacts are synced! Why didn't they put a note in the box ?! LOL...:) |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
Sync - It can sync from the tp2, just set up the tp2 to activesync with your google account. Search on google and you can find how to do that.
*EDIT* here is the page to sync with google - http://www.google.com/support/mobile...36&topic=14299 Swype - I would upload the swype apk that i used, but i don't think thats legal. Internet - It has Firefox & Skyfire as other options for internet browsing. Personally I feel it is much better than WM6.5, 6.5.X was good, but I'm just loving Android so much more now. And yeah it has just come out, they have already rooted the "Desire", so the root for the Incredible shouldn't be far behind. |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
Hey, I'll give that a shot...thanks!
OMG! No S2U2!....no global....grrr...definitely keeping my Rhodium, at least as back-up...or primary...IDK...so torn! I feel like I have cheated on my loyal, sexy, but over weight, gf...LOL! :-) |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
DOUBLE THANKS for the link, I was just about to do a Google seach...love this community! :-)

Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
no sync with outlook/exchange is a total dealbreaker...
|
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
the only issue for me would be wifi tethering... and the EVO has it.

Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
I've just realized the link is for syncing with an exchange server...not to pc....darn....well, HTC SHOULD be releasing HTC Sync for this device in the future....assuming...
...meanwhile...no Fusion Plus...pay for this, pay for that....only if they would release the TP3 with the Snapdragon, 6.5, and a slimmer slideout keyboard design..... Don't get me wrong, the Incredible is a wonderful tele, but as right now it can't replicate the total functionality of my TP2. :( |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
I saw HTC has there own HTC sync that syncs Outlook just fine for this phone.
Should have come with the phone.. Should sync with usb just like TP2 |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
pm sent and
seems to be some work-around for htc sync until an official release in approx 1 weeks time - http://community.htc.com/na/htc-foru...1773/6108.aspx |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
Thanks for the head's up on the ETA of the HTC Sync...for those who are unaware, the Incredible is not shipped with any software to allow syncing w/ Outlook, however, HTC should be releasing the software specific to this phone shortly...

i still have my tp2 as well because it does do a few things for me that the incredible cannot. i doubt i will get rid of it, the tp2 is damn near perfect imo but the speed of the incredible is awesome! i do love both of them but my gut tells me the tp2 will get more use from me during a normal workday than the incredible will. the incredible is more of a toy for me. |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
No SlingMobile (that is a deal breaker right there) or Sirius either.
I won't buy one until those two things work. ~John |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
I agree Redd....if you have a TP2, the Incredible is not an outright replacement, but it is a very cool toy! :-)

Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
Anyone know if Bluetooth voice dialing is working directly from a BT headset with the Incredible or with any Android rooted build yet? This is something that would really hold me back from switching to the Incredible or EVO any time soon.
BTW, how well does the optical mouse work on the Incredible? For me, not having to finger the screen all the time would be a real plus. Best to all, R |

I guess all I can do is hope Android gets the BT voice dialer working with a BT headset soon. Thanks again. R |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
i ditched my tp2 a couple months ago and got the incredible on release. i would never consider going back. however i completely understand your point of view. i for one require a phone to be the median between my laptop and personal communication needs. if i need to edit a doc i use my laptop, i simply wouldn't even try to do it on my phone. i don't use outlook, so thats not a problem either. however i have heard it syncs with it just fine with the right app. don't know it off hand as i don't use it. swype works as mentioned previously. opera? i know it has opera mini 5 on the market. plus the stock browser blows the tp2 outa the water, not dissing it, just sayin.
i think the incredible is a great phone and does a lot that winmo can't, or should i say, devs won't make for winmo... however, like you have mentioned, it has its short comings, but android is growing daily, so look forward to everything working on the incredible as you want it too. wifi sharing is just a root away, haha. i really don't get how they choose some phones to have that, and some require root, so lame. and it is plenty customizable stock. try ahome, open home, beautiful widgets, home++, helix1/2, etc. (any home replacement). and when we get root, you can customize every single aspect of it, just like on winmo. sweeterhome is looks amazing but requires root... EDIT: the biggest thing i love about android, is everything works together. for instance, i used the app "Where" the other day. was downtown and told it i wanted pizza, it found all the pizza joints in my area in a matter of seconds. i scrolled to one that was .35 miles away that i have never heard of. told it i wanted to go there. it immediately gave me turn by turn directions (with voice) and guided me down this nook in between a motel and a building only to find a whole little mini plaza in there with a pizza joint. and it was good pizza to boot, haha. i could never have done that in winmo, at least not without a hassle. once again i am not bashing winmo, just saying how much i like androids ease of use... |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
Thanks all for your replies, kudos for the feedback Mr. GoodCat...this is exactly the feedback I want to hear regarding the device, to see how other users felt about it. Right now, there's not a lot on here or XDA specific to this device and its potential....the key is to be patient...it is an awesome phone, I don't use a lap top for personal use, so my TP2 is the bridge between me and my PC, and as of right now, the Incredible can't take it place..at least not out of the box, but I am working on getting there.....at least Stateside since the Incred is not global.

on a side note, sprint nav will find me all the pizza I want, not to mention google maps, bing, google search, live search.... |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
I am still carrying my TP2...although I have switched back to the Incred....only had TP2 for 6 months but wanted phone for over a year prior...I guess you can say I'm attached to it...the Incred's an awesome device, but until rooting, it still can't fully replace my TP2! ;-)

Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
Lets see..
click on bing icon..say pizza..viola, list of pizza places pops up. ask for directions, go there. Yes, sure is a big hassle to find pizza using Winmo... btw, name one thing you can do in android you can't do in Winmo ? you said there's lots of em. |

I am not trying to be a argumentative, this is a serious question. The guy who works at the desk next to me at work just bought an Incredible. He is already planning on returning it as he absolutely hates not having his TP2 hardware KB but I personally could live with that. What is stopping me from switching at this point is the handful of main apps I use & love everyday don't work in Android at this time. I use the TV out every single day (doesn't work yet with the Incredible) & there is no way I would give up my Sling Mobile app (with the new Sling software my SB works fantastic, that also will not work in Android)). I use Sirius Radio all day at work, that does not work in Android & neither does WMWifirouter which I also use daily. I'm sure all this stuff will be worked out eventually (Slings answer is it will be working "sometime this Summer"), but right now today to say that the Incredible "does a lot of things that WinMo can't" is simply not true at all..........(as a matter of fact, I would say just the opposite is true) I will probably switch to Android eventually, I am no lover of WinMo, but if I switched today (& I was definitely considering it) it would give me WAY less functionality than I have right now with my NRG TP2.... ~John |

I did the exact same thing Friday night using Bing, I can't really imagine anything being much easier. I could have done the exact same thing with Google maps or Garmin XT also....... ~John |
Re: Switched to Incredible, switching back to TP2 (for now?)
Andriod version 2.2 has been released and will go on Nexus first being Google. Should be released to others in a few months . Sprint EVO will be $10 more a month for 4g even if you are not in 4g area.
2.2 is faster with a complier and also has (Bluetooth Voice Dialing with Headset) several other I do not remember at this time. I am looking at the EVO myself and keeping TP2. Also EVO may get Android 2.2 in a few months as per Google. |
