Re: sprint start charge for data

what's ".7.50"?? i assume you are tethering? i assume you are referring to the "5gb" cap? i thought that only applies to usb modem devices.

Re: sprint start charge for data

So.. you want to use data but dont want to pay for it? You can hide that by not going on data and sticking with your wifi.

Re: sprint start charge for data

plain and simple... there's a 5gb limit wether it's through your phone or aircard or tether doesn't matter..

When you look at the data usage on the sprint site which is in Kb...just count 6 places to the left and that will give you +/- of Gb usage.

example:204784kb is pretty much just about .2gb, you will be amaze on how much data you need to use just to go over 5Gb.

Re: sprint start charge for data

Sprint's website shows your usage in kilobytes. A google search will do the conversion for you:

5 gigabytes = 5 242 880 kilobytes

never assume a smartphone user is that...

Re: sprint start charge for data

Oh, is the 5Gb cap fairly new? Does Verizon have a data cap? Reason I ask is I plan to make the switch to Sprint from Verizon when the EVO is finally released.

EDIT: Found this info on Data plans - Misconceptions of unlimited data plans

EDIT 2: Upon further research, I'm finding that caps are placed on Air Cards, not on Smartphone data usage. Please know, this is all hearsay from people on the internet. If you want to be certain, check your contracts terms & conditions.

Re: sprint start charge for data

I wonder how much data would be used if google maps was run from my location to Destin Florida when I go on vacation. Wouldn't constantly downloading map graphics constitute a lot of data?
Also, what about streaming music?

it's not new and all the carriers have it but don't generally enforce it.

I use VZ and have never been charged extra even though I use Sling Mobile every day.

Re: sprint start charge for data

I use Sirius and slacker daily myself, and have gone over the 5g "limit" and have never been charged on Sprint. This is not to say that one day they may not change, but for now I've never been charged and I know many others on Sprint that go way over the 5 and haven't been charged, so YMMV

Re: sprint start charge for data

I know that for a long time, Sprint's "Phone Data" was "Unlimited" being truly unlimited.

Air Cards and "Phone as Modem" usage had a 5gb cap.

My acct. still shows my phone data being "Unlimited"

On the link for "Read More about Mobile Broadband Plans" I get the following:

Code:

Connection card plan policy
Plans include a maximum of 5GB of data usage. If you are on a plan with a specific limit of less than 5 GB (e.g., the 50 MB connection card plan), your plan's specific data limitation and associated overage rates continue to apply.

Effective July 13, 2008. Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred; and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if usage either exceeds (a.) 5 GB/month in total or (b.) 300MB/month while off-network roaming.

Did some research and found this to help people understand what it takes to go over 5GB.

What exactly are they charging you for? How much usage do you have? Can you post the exact usage and charges?

I just want to make sure it's not something that I will end up getting charged for in the future...

I've used over 7 GB from Sprint 2 or 3 months in a row...never got charged.

I assume the OP is tethering w/out the invisible tether cab.

sprint 4G doesn't and will not have any caps.. only 3G.. they also say on their website:

"All you can stream, browse, email, chat, watch and game."
