Whatcha think guys?
That sucks IMO. :(
I keep hoping to hear that there may be an HD2 or similar WinMo device available from Sprint but it doesn't look good. :angry7:
I'll keep hoping!! ;)

Hm, I think it looks that way.

I just got my Touch Pro 2 two weeks ago, so I'm late to the party...but even though the phone is on the verge of being outdated (if it's not already) it is absolutely perfect for me. I had the XV6700 and the Mogul before this, and the TP2 is the upgrade that I hoped for. Thanks to xda-developers and this site I've got a device that does everything I want.

I'll be curious to see what the user community does with WM7, but if MS somehow puts a stop to all our fun, than I'm glad that I was able to get in on the last great WM6.5 phone.

If the TP2 is the last of WM 6.X I am sure I am going to have it for along time, I managed to use my Treo 700wx for almost 4 years, I am guessing I can hold out a few more years with the TP2. I have played around with Android and not overly impressed. and Windows Phone 7 is not looking appealing at all for the moment. just my 2 cents.

Re: TP2 the last Sprint WinMo 6.x device!?

Yes, WM is frustrating to most @ 1 point or another, but that's the only OS I know smartphone wise since smartphones were invented.
& to not being able to get 'fixes' & customizations fast & free in most cases would drive me crazy.

The common refrain I have heard from Android users is that any customizations or improvements are done by installing apps which are mostly free & easier than cabs or tweaks.
Do you have to go look for those in some dedicated forum like us WM fans do now?
Or is it all in the apps market?

For some of you who have used both Android & WM, can you share what your dislikes of Android are?

The only HD2 similar on Sprint is the EVO. Thats thier flagship device for 2010 of course and their answer to the HD2 for 2010. They choose Android over WinMO simple as that, and from the business prospective I cant say I blame them. I highly doubt that we will see another WinMo 6.x device on sprint ever again. If they do release one it will be a low-end device for a particular market (non power users), still doubt this too.

This is why bought my first GSM phone ever, the HD2 on Tmobile, I figured it is the only WinMo device that will get me to atlease fall of 2011, by then between the community (xda-dev, ppcgeeks, etc) and Windows phone team, im sure we'll have more of the functionality on WP7 we have grown accustom too on WM.

It just makes no sence for sprint to drop another Windows mobile device. There are no rumors of another high-end Win Mo device from HTC (which sprint has a good relationship with) Palm is basically dead, and there are no other device makers which make high-end Windows mobile devices for sprint. And even if a new device maker was in the works for making one there are no rumors. It would have to be something awesome to even stir up any consideration now when WinMo is dieing.

So friends if your like me and love WM, but are realistic enough to realize the business side of this very complicated and interesting market you will have to make a decision. Especialy if your on sprint, or VZW. (I only say this as you can also have an HD2 on At&t, and if any carrier needs to shock the market its them) So back to the decision, its either Android EVO or you go to Tmobile and get yourself ready for whats going to be a probable year long depression to our community, lol at least stateside.

Im not a WM7 hater I actually like what I see, I understand its gonna be some time before some high end devices are available, with common functionality for people like us.

I wont go to another OS other than possibly, maybe Android. With that said my opinion still stands its Either HD2, try Android Evo, or stick with your TP2 and get ready for the journey. Good luck

I think I rather slit my own wrists with a dual spoon than go to T-mobile. just the thought of it sends shivers down my spine. the real thing is we have no idea whats going to happen. there could be something in the works that none of us know about or we might just get lucky and Windows Phone 7 might be worth it. who know what the future really holds.

Thanks for the comments guys. :)
I guess I was and still am wondering what a device like the hd2 would be like on sprint's network instead of t-mobile. Bummer! :angry7:

considering sprint announced it will not release a device that comes with 6.5 at release. i would say tp2 is last wm device until wp7,but then again who believes them?lol i don't see it happening.Another device other then tp2 coming?Nah.

Re: TP2 the last Sprint WinMo 6.x device!?

If the next incarnation of Win Mo is WP7, why would you come out with 6.x devices? Aren't WP7 devices starting to come out on other networks? Stands to reason that if WP7 is almost ready, come out with WP7 devices.

Re: TP2 the last Sprint WinMo 6.x device!?

Myself personally, I have used both WinMo and Android. I personally love both OS's. The only reason I left my Sprint Hero and went to TP2 was because of work purposes. I had it synced to my work server for email, but it would only update my general inbox and wouldn't update any of my folders within it. That may have just been my naivity, but I didn't have the patience as I was starting to miss important emails. As for the customization, I feel like even with the android market being full of free apps, as long as you are willing to do the searching, you can find damn near everything you could possibly want for Winmo and 8 times out of 10 it will be free. I've become a master at flashing roms and am a quick learner with new mods and cabs and such, but I will say that it is nice to be able to just purchase an app, it auto installs, and just works! No hard resetting, no soft resetting, it just works. I do see that people are starting to develop Android roms now but I don't know enough about android to feel comfortable trying to flash them. If they ever get android running 100% functioning on the TP2, I will be in heaven. The one thing that android lacks is the physical keyboard of the TP2. There is not another phone in the industry that has a keyboard anywhere close to that of the TP2. If HTC ever decides to make an android phone with that keyboard or even make the next gen TP android with the ms exchange integration of WinMo, it would be the greatest achievement in the cellular industry IMO.

That is the same problem that I found. I also like using shazam and nanogroove and don't know if they are available for android, and I have been too lazy to research that.

Re: TP2 the last Sprint WinMo 6.x device!?

this_discussion(my-reality) =
The TP2 does everything I could ask for from a phone. Really, if I want blazing speeds, projection functionality, etc., I'll just buy a freaking-nother device just for that purpose...like an uber-hott mini. And I don't see myself lifting a projector to my ear to talk to people. Yeah, there's bluetooth, but they all suck in reality. For the Sprint folks, SERO is that good that I can see myself "suffering" with my TP2 for the foreseeable future. The only way I'd give it up is if they let better hardware in or they give me a better pricing schedule on new hardware.

TP2 & SERO forever, baby!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my TP2. The problem is that I have had it for about 6 months now and am beginning to explore other options and right now I am looking in the direction of Android. The only problem is not being to see the subfolders from Outlook.

Re: TP2 the last Sprint WinMo 6.x device!?

every carrier seemed to have their last push: HD2, TP2, Tilt2, Imagio(arent i missing one or 2 from the last release wave?)... but yeah it seems anyone not wanting android and holding their breath for win7, it out of luck if they dont like whats out and available to them now... thats a long time to wait if you ask me... win7 will be lucky to hit before xmas and we all know microsoft sucks at hitting target dates anyways.. and who knows, they may only have super expensive phones with it... not alot of people liked that offical 600 tag on TP2s for sprint, that slowed alot of people to the device... so it may be a loooooooong time before users afraid of android get a new device with anything winmo really

Yea, with 6.5 dying, and no longer being "officially" supported (PPC and XDA are more official to me than an actual Microsoft release) there will not be any further 6.5 phones. I hate the look of Win 7, looks unfinished, and too "gamey" not as business and straight forward as id like. I havent tried android further than booting on my TP2 and messing around with a Moment in the store. But i like it, and seems more customizable than Win 7.

It sucks that its dying, but I know i will be getting an EVO when it drops, and hopefully somebody can port win 6.5 to it.

Unfortunately Android OS runs on the Linux Kernel, and it would be very difficult to run Windows Mobile on Linux.

Many people have run Linux on Windows Mobile platform, but Linux on Windows Mobile OS is very unlikely.

I would love to be proven wrong though, as I too would love to run WM on the Sprint EVO. Maybe someone very gifted who knows much more about this subject may be able to accomplish this, but for now my friends its a no-go.
