WinMo Being Phased Out
So thats what I heard!! I called a Verizon store because my brother would like to own the Almighty TP2 and get rid of his BBstorm. When I spoke to the store owner there he said they do not carry the phone anymore because its discontinued....Really?? But he could order it for me and have it with in a few days. He said he will not be carrying anymore WM devices due to no support and was talking about how Microsoft blames HTC and Vise Versa for there lack of support. He said if my brother wants to get a phone he is better off going Android. He also mentioned how VZ will be getting the Iphone for next year! Intersting none the less, But back on topic!
So it kinda makes sense about no more WinMo seeing as how Crapy 6.5 is for Sprint and how long. I mean How LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG it takes them to come out with a decent rom, and when we get it its no where near our expectations!! IMO....and then I get on here and the first thing I see is how Android is on track to surpass apple app store!! So if you ask me Android is on fire, and I think WinMo feels the heat!! Plus if you look at all the devices coming out in the near future there all running Android....dont quote me on that..... |
Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
With WP7 no close on the horizon there isn't much use for continued development and investment into a dying platform. I love WM by the way, but I too understand that if I want to stay current I will have to jump to WP7 or Android.

Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
He's just an indirect dealer who didn't have any tp2 in stock so he wanted to sell what was in his inventory. Thats all

you might be right. Android is the next up and coming thing. And sprint's 6.5 software is crappy, but that is only because Microsoft wouldnt let anything other than 6.5.1 be released for the phone. If you have the right connections, you can also get a baller rom for your phone that will sort all your needs. But as a Tech rep at sprint, i can honestly count on my left hand how many Touch Pro 2's have come back for repairs, and so far my tally sheet from the beginning of the year i am at 1,693 android devices that are coming back in need of hard resets because someone downloaded some software and now their phone force closes all the time. WIndows mobile may be being phased out, but there is always going to be roms cooked up that will tickle your fancy. heck the android is even being ported to windows mobile so you can have the best of both worlds! WM 6.5 may be being phased, but the heartbeat of the windows mobile community is like a heard of elk. |

I would have to agree here. The guy was trying to make a sale on what he had in his store. It's kinda bassackwards on the sale pitch, he should have tried to help better. If he would have ordered the phone his store would have gotten credit but I wouldn't let that entice your position on WM. |
Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
Well for me. I am a WM fan and would hate to go android and will continue to be untill all the chefs here decide not to cook any more roms...But its a dying platform and with very little support.. Yes I know its hard to believe but I think sooner than later we will all be running androids....:angry7:

Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
Verizon is so full of crap they make my septic tank smell like a rose garden.
That said, WinMo is being phased out...and replaced with WindowsPhone. I agree too that the guy may just have been wanting to move a phone to an "uninformed" buyer. David |

Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
lol, reminds me of how verizon killed skype on ppc's, but now is suddenly advertising the capability on droid.
|
Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
the same verizon that just said they won't carry the nexus one after all because they have the droid?
Did he have a release date on the iphone yet, I wouldn't count on that one till it hits. who needs the support of microsoft when we have the support of ppcgeeks and xda-dev's??? |

Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
I've never seen the TP2 available in the local store. I've always been told that its only available through the online store. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
WinMo is a horrible OS compare to what else is out there. It's slow, laggy, freezes all the time. I love my TP2 for texting, the keyboard simply rocks but as far as the OS is concerned it's terrible. I will prob be jumping on board the HTC evo which I really don't want to give up a real keyboard or my sero plan but it looks awesome.

I stop into two local VZ locations regularly as I know a few of the employees. Neither location has EVER had a TP2 in stock & when I show them mine they aren't even sure what it is......... ~John |

I totally agree, but a co-worker of mine sold his TP2 & bought an HD2 & he absolutely hates the OS KB. I heard him say the other day "I never should has bought this POS, I miss my TP2 KB in the worst way" ~John |
Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
Has MS really come out & say they will phase out WM?
From the WP7 announcement pressers, it appears they were going to support both OS for different demographics. |
Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
in all honesty win mo 6.5 will be phased out by december for sure.. thats a given since windows phone will be available.. to bad no sense on top of it or micro sd cards.. or cut and paste.. (on launch anyway)

The difference between the KB on my HTCTouch and my new TouchPro2 is great. Much better keys. I still have problems with the onscreen kb with it too....I'm all thumbs. David |

the win9x kernel was run from DOS... it wasn't until XP that DOS was no longer necessary for the Windows OS for the average consumer computer

Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
Ok, so I read the whole thread and now I am going to try to make a point that nobody else has made. You can't watch a television show on any channel across the cable spectrum with out seeing at least 1 Droid from Verizon ad. I am a truck driver and the billboards are everywhere nationwide. Verizon is treating droid as Att treated the IPhone. They are going to push you towards the Droids and Android OS to recoup their ad monies. Sprint did the same thing with the Instinct. I went to go get my TP1 and when the corporate store didn't have it yet, the tech tried to con me into an Instinct by claiming it was The IPhone killer. My love for HTC and my hatred of Samsung made the decision easier. I digress.
I don't believe that Microsoft is phasing out the WinMo OS because there is too many business users out there. I would venture to say that 80 percent of the TP2 users are business men that just use the phone as is. As for lagging, I have some apps that I have collected over my years of enjoying windows phones and I don't see the lagging problem. But I guess I am old school and figure that if you don't try to drive a car faster than it was meant to go, you wont have problems. As for Verizon getting IPhone next year, the real truth is that it was offered to Sprint and Verizon first. Neither company wanted the phone due to networks. Apple wanted it to have GSM capabilities so it could be sold round the world. Sprint and Verizon passed. Good Luck multitasking with it. Sorry for the rambling, but I just wanted to input my opinion. I am just a truck driver, What do I know? |

And to add to that, to say winmo is being "phased" out is the equivalent of mr. Bill Gates saying microsoft is going out of business. |
Re: WinMo Being Phased Out
not all winmo devices are phones. therefore they would not end up being winphone devices...
think ipad in reverse... remember M$ made the portable computing market possible with all thier hard work the last 10+ years. |
