I'm Board with the TP2

So I have reached a point where I am just bored to tears with the TP2. I am even ready for a new platform i.e. Android. EVO could not come fast enough! sigh...

I got myself a hero for 150$ on the site Bargain forums =P sold my 2 TP's recently, gave my last one to my friend, you should consider giving hero a try before you go out and buy a Evo at a high cost. I got bored of WM as well.. came to a point where there was nothing fun about it, applications getting left in the dust, still have a TP left though..

android for tp2 has gotten good enough, meaning almost all the apps work (except those requiring the camera), that i've been using it for the past 3 days.

played robo defense, space physics, shoot u, scrabble, snesoid, etc. even talked on the phone for more than an hour without having it crash.

i got bored too. ended up selling my tp2 a couple months back. pre-ordered my incredible and can't wait for next thursday! running the android port on the tp2 convinced me. i kept longing for the port to become fully functional. then realized why not just get a device meant to run it, haha. i thought i needed a physical keyboard but found with such a big screen its not too bad to use the software one. anywho it all lead to me trying out an android phone, can't wait. hope i don't get bored of that too, haha

I'm still waiting for the Evo....my upgrade in Aug. 1st and that day can't come any sooner. If the rumor is right I will have a few months to wait out the hype of the new Evo so that they will actually be in stock, and I an get one. I come to the conclusion that Windows Mobile has lost the edge, apps and addon's are just not there anymore. Android has alot more to offer now via apps, and functionality. I've also noticed that Android doesn't use as much ram as Windows Mobile....so thats a plus. I just grown tired of the fact that Windows Mobile has run dry, and gone stale....It's nice for those business users but other than that it I feel a moderate consumer just doesn't benifit from it anymore.

i had the samsung moment for a few days..got bored to tears with it...i realize that how i was trying to set it up was exactly how my TP2 was set up..the Android market isnt what i thought it would be..and as far as games go it has NOTHING on the iphone one..the only thing i liked was that the moment was very fast..thats the only thing i wish my TP2 was..and that it had the streamlined google calendar..like that of the moment..other than that ill stick with WM...the HTC sense of the hero may have made a difference in my liking of Android...the bare android 1.5 or even 2.1 isnt anything to write home about..

well then you'd have to compare your android experience with stock winmo 6.1 or 6.5. android is just as customizable as winmo. there are many home replacements that make android a cleaner more customizable (and personal) experience. and personally i think its important to note that winmo is dying a slow painful death. there are still some amazing devs backing it up offering very nice ui's to cover up winmos ugly face, but the simple fact is is that eventually it will be old news and be barely supported by anyone other than independent devs. android has so much room to grow. and it will continue to evolve. therefore i think when looking toward the future it would be a wiser idea to give android a shot at least. but on the other hand winmo is great for some people, i just got tired of it. and for the aforementioned reasons i will be getting an incredible!

Does anyone come to the conclusion it isn't the phone but the carrier? I mean the majority in this thread is sprint (One Verizon and one T Mobile) and if you go back a few pages you will see a "Smash my TP2" thread started by another Sprint customer. I like the TP2, it was fast with my stock rom, it is even faster with the custom ROM, and if I ever start to get bored with it, I will try a few more custom ROM, by the time I run out of different ROM and configurations then the TP3 (or maybe an Android) will be out and at USCC, then I will switch to it. (I have had Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. I like USCC the best) There is only one thing I don't like about the TP2 and that is they took away the flash the TP1 had. Also I noticed that some TP2's have a front camera for conference calls. But I suppose that is a carrier type thing, some can't have the cake and eat it too. USCC you can't talk and be on the internet.

id probably be willing to give it another try with HTC Sense built in..the Hero doesnt offer a hardware keyboard so i wasnt willing to use it..i missed my weather clock, calendar tab, facebook integration into the contact list, htc peep, and the music tab, the most..

you act like windows phone 7 isn't coming out in the next couple of months..... and that winmo has been discontinued.

Wirelessly posted (HTC Touch Pro 2: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1; en-us; XDANDROID Build/ERD72) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

Okay, so I still use my TP2 since September (when it first came out on Verizon). I always swore that I would keep a hardware keyboard (The TP2 spoiled me). Recently, my bro got the HD2, and I almost switched, except I don't want T-Mobile. So I was considering getting the Incredible and pre-ordering. I put the Android OS on my TP2 (I believe it is v2.01. My bro has the Moto Droid, and he has v2.1, and he says it has small differences). Well, it's a nice and smooth OS. The Facebook app is awesome (WM FB app SUCKS!!!). A few other features are very nice (multi-tasking seems to be smooth). I recommend everyone "board" (LOL) with WM, to definitely try this. It's stable and smooth enough. Just no Bluetooth, Camera, MMS, GPS. No biggie for testing.

So, I'm noticing, Android seems like an App OS. Reminds me of an iPhone. There really isn't anything to it - at all. Just apps apps apps. That's one thing I like about WM (albeit it's main feature is it's downfall - there's so much to it). Android just seems too simple. I feel like I don't have a "full" phone. But maybe because I'm so used to WM (I've been using it for 4 years).

I'm reading Android is "just as customizable as Windows Mobile". Well, I don't know what that means. That I have to flash and skin the OS? I think the main thing about the HTC Incredible that makes it attractive to me (aside from hardware) is the HTC Sense. Otherwise, Android seems, well, boring.

What can I do to customize Android? I suppose I'll check out the Android forums and see the ROMs and skins. But will it be like the iPhone - when customized and skinned, it becomes buggy and "WM" like? My bro unlocked and skinned his iPhone to have the HTC clock, and other stuff, and was complaining about it locking up and freezing. Well, that just defeats the main feature of Android - it's seamless and smooth user interface. I suppose I should keep at it. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying Android (I'm even posting this on my TP2 using Android), and I do like it, but I'm not convinced I like it more than WM.

I recommend everyone try Android on their TP2. Check out the sub-froums. There are single cab file installs that make Android porting on the TP2 so easy. Just one cab install (that's what I did). And try it out. See what you think. I hope my comment helps.

I am bored with mine as well. I liked my wife's Moment so much I sold mine on Ebay in less than 12 hours as a "Buy it now" for the price I wanted. I turned around and bought a Moment.

Re: I'm Board with the TP2

I think Android is pretty fun once you get used to it, I really like the Espresso / Rosie combo and just recently put that on my hero. Its nice and all because you know, even though you don't have a physical keyboard, if you get lazy you can just talk through google voice or w/e and it will write down whatever you said! Plus the capacitive keyboard is almost fast at times but still never a replacement for the TP2 Keyboard which is just beautiful, I can't stand the Moment's keyboard.. Stupid space next to all the characters ugh.. But the Moment looks beautiful..

So in conclusion, it really comes down to what you need.. If you have any questions about the Moment or Hero, feel free to ask as I can tell you from a first-hand experience. Both are rooted and running custom firmware.

Also if you want to see what Rosie / Espresso is like, try using it on your TP2 first, if you like it then think about the Evo 4G (If 4G is in your area then even better!) I think that the new Sense UI for Android is one of the best things ever in terms of mobile UI's

Come on guys, no need to attack one another. The site is to discuss our phones and improve them. We can all learn from eachother, so there's no reason to argue personal issues :)

[I'm a bit of a grammar nazi myself, so I must say that "your" was the correct in this case because it is a possessive pronoun ;) ]

Just remember to respect your fellow smartphone users!

Stop attacking eachother, and stop making off-topic posts. Next time it happens, this thread will be closed.

Capiche?

Oh, and useless posts have been deleted, so that's why posts are missing if you were wondering.

Re: I'm Board with the TP2

I was having the same issue with my Touch Pro2, I found that all my time was spent trying to make it work. I'd flash a new rom, then have to spend an hour getting mms or other issues resolved. But I found the solution...Silence Rom. This rom made my TP2 FAST to the point where it's usable, dare I say even...enjoyable.

I think this rom is going to allow me to make it to the end of my current contract with VZW so I won't have to pay full retail for the Incredible. Which is what I would have done had I not found Silence Rom. Who knows, maybe this rom will give me the patience needed to wait for WP7...

When all else fails, Andriod 2.1 with sense is pretty fun to tinker with to pass the time.

Re: I'm Board with the TP2

I too became bored with my TP2 so I gave it to my girlfriend and bought a Samsung Moment. Don't get me wrong, I really liked my TP2 I just got tired of the limited things I could find to keep me entertained. The TP2 in my opinion is a rock solid phone, I didn't have any hardware problems with it nor any complaints as far as speed and ability of the phone, I just wanted something that I thought I would get more enjoyment from whether it be a new challenge or just other things to try with a new phone.
I don't regret giving up the phone for a Samsung Moment, my girlfriend really enjoys the TP2 (with MightyROM).
Now that Calkulin is developing ROMS for the Moment, it makes it even more exciting for me to play with... an advantage is that I don't find myself rebooting the phone as often as I used to reboot my TP2. Google integration is a pretty nice feature too, this phone has third party Exchange support and Android 2.1 Eclair has built-in Exchange support. We're just waiting for the official release of 2.1 from Sprint. Android is stable and the Moment's AMOLED is a sight to see. If you're willing to make the switch, I'd suggest switching to any Android phone, you won't be disappointed. The reason I picked the Moment was because it has a hardware keyboard the AMOLED was a great surprise too...
I hope that you can decide what it is you're looking to get from a phone first and then finding the phone that will suit your needs. Again, I still think the TP2 is a great phone, I just happen to like my Samsung Moment better...
Best of luck!
