Wirelessly posted (HTC Touch Pro 2: Opera/9.80 (Windows Mobile; WCE; Opera Mobi/WMD-50430; U; en) Presto/2.4.13 Version/10.00)

Short Version:
Is Verizon coming out with an awesomer phone than the TP2 any time soon - something HD2-esque? (Keyboard & OS optional)

Long Version:
So I'm seriously considering switching from Verizon TP2 to T-Mobile HD2. For the longest time I've INSISTED on the keyboard, but I can't be so stubborn and set in my ways, I need to adapt. The HD2 is a much better phone, except without a keyboard. So now that I'm passed that, I am hesitant to switch because T-Mobile is known to have poor cell coverage and service. I've been spoiled by Verizon for 9 years, and I would hate to have lesser service for a better phone.

So without turning this into yet another service provider discussion, is Verizon thinking about possibly considering bringing an HD2 type phone, or maybe a successor to the TP2? Sprint is coming out with the EVO in the next 2 months (word is July), and I would consider that as Sprint has much better service than T-Mobile, but I'm not sure I'm ready to switch to Android just yet. I most likely will when WM7 comes out (absolutely not a fan of the move towards an M$ iPhone). So what's the scoop? Should I stick it out with Big Red, or should I take advantage of the fact that I'm out of contract?

Verizon will get the droid incredible soon as for coverage with tmobile if so cal means southern cali i dont think you will have a problem in coverage with tmobile.Sprint wont come out with a 6.5 phone there next wm phone will be w7.
I think you should browse around since your out of contract you always have time to return and cancel if your not satisfied.:drunken:

The successor to the TP2, just like the whole TP line so far, will only be a marginal upgrade (rumored). It is rumored to be @600mhz, which isnt enough for WM7, so you are stuck with an obsolete device with old hardware already. And realistically, phone hardware hasnt advanced like computer hardware did.

here is my example,

All of my phones i have had
Dash- 200mhz, 64 Ram
TP - 528mhz, 192 Ram (best phone i ever had)
TP2- 528mhz, 288 Ram (only have because my TP broke 4 times, so they gave me one)

Hopefully, Evo- 1000mhz, 512 Ram

So it seems that it takes about 3 yrs for the next big thing, which is really the time to get a phone. So if you get the top shit now, you wont really need a new phone for quite a while. Thats what I am aiming to do at least

Verizon is supposed to be getting the iphone this summer. An iphone on a functional network might be an awesome thing, especially with the new os 4. Also, now is about the worst time to update phones. This summer there will be some beast phones released, and next fall windows phone 7 is going to drop. So buying now locks you into old windows mobile, old hardware, etc.

I find that to be the trend, by fall the best stuff will be out. And these fast few falls had nadda!

Re: I'm ready to upgrade from the TP2...

Very true. I got the TP2 last September, the TP1 the previous November, the XV6800 the previous fall, don't remember when I got the XV6700. Seems Europe gets first releases in Summertime, then we get it a few months later. I was checking out the specs of the Droid Incredible on Pocketnow, and also the HTC Desire. Both seem very cool. I definitely like the AMOLED screens, but I also like the 4.3" screen. Both have the Snapdragon and 576Mb RAM. Both have 5MP camera, but EVO has 8MP (wow). I definitely don't care for iPhone (even if Verizon gets it this Summer), but I am open to Android. My bro just swapped his iPhone 3Gs for an HD2. It's very nice!! WM6.5, 4.3" screen, Android, 8MP camera, AMOLED, so much to choose from. Where is my superphone??

Re: I'm ready to upgrade from the TP2...

Incredible has 8MP camera as well:

Im thinking about switching to that this summer. No keyboard though. Kind of a bummer

Like in regular cameras, MP doesnt really matter. I have never known of an HTC phone to take good pictures unless it was a bright day out. That is the one thing that apple has right. The camera sensors they use are very crisp and vibrant.

I loved the flash that i used to have on my TP, always had a flashlight on me!

I used to have an LG Dare and it took way better pictures than my TP2 does

I am totally anti Apple but my gf's old iphone 1st gen took way better pics than my newish TP2.
Wtf HTC, get your sensors from Omnivision like Apple and then put a real flash on it, not that LED junk. But keep the current camera mic, it is the best out there right now.

I have the Touch Pro 2, and agree the camera could be better even at 3.2 MP... However, I played with the HD2 at the T-Mobile store and must say that I am impressed with the camera on the HD2. It has the LED flash, so it at least has a flash but the flash on the LEDs could be better.

I traded phones with my brother, who has an iphone 3GS, and besides the camera, I was ready to give it back in about 5 hours.

Yeah that's HARDLY enough time to really use the phone. As much as I used to be a windows fanboy and apple hater, that all changed once I got an iMac and got used to using it. The OS is MUCH more intuitive than Windows and I have to say Apple has things really figured out, from their computers, to the iPod, to the iPhone. As much as I like my TP2, and I would love to have an EVO, and I'm excited about the new W7 phones, I wouldn't mind having an iPhone on Sprint with 4g if they offered one. Actually, that's probably what I would have.

with all the new sprint phones coming I know I will be upgrading from the touch pro 2.. the touch pro 3 or so its being called right now feels like a downgrade so hopefully they change the name of it to like the touch pro mini or something. Now my upgrade who knows evo, the lg or motorola phones maybe even a win mobile 7 (assuming they add in multitasking and cut and paste and such after launch like they said they would) so many choices its great to be a sprint customer for once.

My pictures use to suck too, just look below at some before and after. I took a cotton shirt that was slightly coarse, a little saliva and rubbed on the plastic screen for a good 3-5 minutes. There is this anti-fog film on the screen which is suppose to stop condensation when it is pulled out of your pocket, but it just makes your pictures suck.

yeah the camera is really really crappy. I mean they couldnt even include flash in it and the quality screams 2mp or less. Sometimes I get good pictures but usually they suck. My wifes moment has a 3.2 and takes awesome pictures and has a flash and is cheaper wtf how come htc couldnt include that?

An HD2 now would be a mistake. Since it's not getting W7, you're gonna be stuck with an obsolete OS. Unless you plan on running a ported android build, but in that case, I'd just buy the droid phone coming end of the month.

Very true. The best choices for the year unless that Scorpion processor monster thing gets announced very soon would be the EVO and the Incredible.

Yea, the HD2 has a very nice camera. My brother has the HD2, and it takes awesome pictures - even in the dark with the flash. So I'm wondering what their 8MP camera does.

I do think it sucks that the HD2 is not WM7 compatible, but it seems M$ is losing a lot of interest from their customers regarding the WM7 specs & non-compatibility. Once that comes out (which I'm assuming to happen early 2011?), I'll probably switch to Android. So I guess getting the incredible may be a possibility for me. Or possibly the EVO. I just really really like the HD2. What a good looking phone.

Both the EVO and Incredible are going to be very similar to the HD2. The only difference being the Incredible having a 3.7 instead of 4.3in screen.

The evo does have the front mounted camera as well, so the only one that can do video conference calls.

More importantly, I think sprint is the cheapest at 69.99 a month and will have 4G

4G is only in select cities currently. Not even LA has their 4g WiMAX set up, we are still on 3g out here:

Quote:

The new additions for 2009 are: Abilene, Texas; Amarillo, Texas; Austin, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Bellingham, Wash.; Charlotte, N.C.; Corpus Christi, Texas; Greensboro, N.C.; Killeen-Temple, Texas; Lubbock, Texas; Maui, Hawaii; Midland-Odessa, Texas; Raleigh, N.C.; Salem, Ore.; San Antonio, Texas; Waco, Texas; and Wichita Falls, Texas.

Sprint also expects to launch service in multiple markets in 2010, including Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
These markets will join Baltimore, where Sprint made history when it launched 4G in September 2008.

Yea, I'm in So Cal, and wouldn't get 4G. Also, how would video conferencing work on Sprint? I thought CDMA doesn't support data & voice simultaneously.

About the EVO vs. Incredible, EVO has a bigger screen (+1), and Incredible has an AMOLED screen (+1)

Sounds like Texas is representing the 4G. What's up with that? Not LA? Not Chicago? Call me crazy, but why are most of the 4G networks in smaller cities? (Compared to that of bigger more populated areas)

CMDA doesn't, but WiMAX does.

Atlanta; Chicago; Dallas-Fort Worth; Honolulu; Las Vegas; Portland,Ore.; Philadelphia and Seattle.

Five hours was PLENTY of time to know that the iPhone is par for the course along with the majority of Apple's products. That being said, I used it for the entire week we traded phones and I MUCH prefer almost any Android device, Blackberry, or even a modded WinMo device.

Now don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. My opinion is that the iPhone is a great toy, but its a bad phone AND its on a pretty crappy network. Maybe when Sprint or Verizon pick it up it'll be a even better toy than it already is, but that isn't going to make it a good PHONE no matter how you look at it.

SIDE NOTE: Maybe soon Apple will add an "iPhone" app to their surely upcoming "iPad Nano" and then they might actually have something.

Evo is where its at. HD2 is on a dying platform. There isn't going to be anything new in development in WM 6.5. And if its not going to upgradeable to WP 7 Series, then why bother? Many people are making the move to Android and loving it. Windows is really going to have to prove itself with 7 Series

Right?! I can't decide either, but I do agree about the Hd2 not being upgradeable to WM7. That's such a waste of an AWESOME phone. I guess EVO it is... or Incredible. But am I ready for Android? Is it super awesome already? Or maybe needs a few more months.

On a side note, I'm so ...bitter? sick and tired of seeing every other website having an iPhone app and no WM app. But now I'm starting to slowly see Android right next to it. WM was always quitely in the back of available platforms, if at all.

Apple does a great job of making it seem like theirs is the device to have, which is why we have all the hipster apple guys thinking theirs is the only phone in the universe. They make a great multimedia device and their expertise ends there. Many apps are multimedia apps, so it kind of fits in with the market.

I would have to say that android will most likely be my next operating system, baring WM7 doesn't surprise me.

Android will definitely be my next OS. WM is cool for modding and tweaking to your hearts extent, but Android seems more valuable in the future.

not if you are a 2phone a year person, like so many on here are. there is someone already running a functional wp7 on the hd2, based off of the wp7 emulator for devs to test on, so it can handle it. microsoft hasn't made up its mind yet anyways on that issue.
Some of us aren't gonna jump straight to wp7 when it comes out, so if you want the HP of the HD2, I can understand that.

personally, I'm waiting for a wp7/6.5.3/android slider with sprint 4g. but I probably won't get anything till late next winter (about a year from now), even though I am eligible sooner.

and for the camera, try taking that plastic lens cover off the back cover and see how much better it gets. but yeah, it needs a flash.

Considering Texas has 3 of the top10 biggest cities, we should.
actually, for some reason corpus christi, tx is one of their test sites for tower stuff, so san antonio isn't that far from here. and oregon was the starting point for clear...

It's good to see they are already talking about WIMAX2 being developed, maybe it isn't so dead after all.
