How to control what dir cab files are installed
2 Attachment(s)
If this has been posted someone where else I apologizes. I need to know if there is a way either through software or maybe through the .xml file to control where a .cab file gets installed to.
My use case is games. I'm noticing that its a crap shoot as to if they are install with the other wm games. I just installed one that created a new folder in my TP2 6.5 Start Menu called Games and Apps. There are some in Games and some by themselves in the start menu. ](*,) I would really like to wrangle these into the main games directory (joystick icon) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. |

You have to edit the cab itself with a cab editor. There are some free ones I think. I have WinCE Cab Manager, but it's not free.

Re: How to control what dir cab files are installed
if you aren't totally savvy about modifing the installer then after you install a game you can use file explorer, go to: /windows/start menu/programs and move or copy the shortcut to /windows/start menu/programs/games
then just delete the game shortcut in /windows/start menu/programs/ unfortunately it's stupidity people that make cabs don't use the proper location to create shortcut (as in games they should be in the games folder). that's why it's there, for a reason :-) |

Re: How to control what dir cab files are installed
If you flash often, edit the cabs. Here's my start menu to give you an idea of how you can organize everything:
http://i49.tinypic.com/2noq51.jpg I modified all the game cabs to install their shortcuts to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games, and their actual install directories to be within the \Program Files\Games subfolder. That is the best way to do it if you flash often. If you rarely flash, you can go ahead and move the shortcuts manually, but this can be time consuming if you have many games. |
