Sprint Total Equipment Protection (TEP) = ERP + ESRP

http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/ue...mentProtection

TEP = ERP (3$) + ESRP(4$)
where ------------->
ERP = Equipment Replacement Program (http://www.nextel.com/assets/pdfs/en...3-2024_TEP.pdf)
ESRP = Equipment Service and Repair Program (http://www.nextel.com/assets/pdfs/en...-2024_ESRP.pdf)

Now the question:
The phone is already warranty covered for 1 year against manufacturing and malfunction defects. An additional warranty of 1 year is covered by the credit card used for purchase. So the phone is effectively covered for 2 years. In this case, why not just get the ERP for 3$ rather than full TEP for 7$?

The only benefits I see of ESRP are:
1. Immediate repair without having to mail it to HTC or arrange for a temp phone.
2. Enables eligibility for coverage after 2 years if you continue (Which again can be purchased from credit card)
3. The Credit card coverage is only 400$ (phone price is 600$) (thanks austin).

Does anybody see any other reasons to purchase ESRP?

***EDIT: Went to Sprint store to clarify. All I mentioned above is correct. You just need the ERP to sleep peacefully. The benefits of ESRP over warranty are also just the ones I mentioned above. Its a personal decision of whether it is worth 36$/year (If you remove ESRP, ERP alone is 4$).

thanks!

Doesn't ESRP let you take it to a store and have it fixed there without paying out of pocket?

If there is something wrong with the device, HTC provides full warranty for it.

There are a few other threads about the water damage indicator that were tripped without actual water damage. If that's present, HTC's warranty is void. I got both, just to be safe rather than sorry. Besides, you can cancel either one, at anytime without penalty.

Not sure if you understood the thread or if you read the PDFs. As a phone owner you would be concerned about 2 things:
1. Malfunction/Manufacturing defect
2. Damage due to mishandling (Water damage/physical damage/Lost/Stolen)

#1 is fully covered by warranty
#2 is covered by ERP.

ESRP is not needed. The only additional benefits ESRP provides over manufacturer warranty are:
1. Immediate repair without having to mail it to HTC or arrange for a temp phone.
2. Enables eligibility for coverage after 2 years if you continue (Which again can be purchased from credit card)

So my question is,
1. Is it(ESRP) worth it (50$/year)?
2. Did I miss if there are any other benefits to ESRP?

of course its worth it. instant repair in store is invaluble. also, unless your buying the phone out right, it just shows up on your bill as equitment purchase. to the cc company, it just looks like your paying your phone bill. who among us has claimed a subsidized phone as a credit card warrented purchase. i dont think they would even give u that much, as the replacment phone would cost much more than the few hundred you originally paid for it.

yea. theyre on it.lol. really though, sending it to htc is 50/50. ive seen the horror stories of waiting 6 weeks just to have the ppc returned untouched because they deemed it user related.

Re: Sprint Total Equipment Protection (TEP) = ERP + ESRP

The $4/mo ERP plan covers the loss of the phone so really thats all you need. Just have to pay the $100 deductale, have never done that but lossing this thing scares me most and you do have the 1 year warranty.
