read Anandtech's review of the Nexus One for an honest, unhyped look at Android. It's really not all that great.

My Sprint tp2 with stock 6.5 and the cookie mod makes for a very responsive, touch friendly phone. No other phone comes close if you want a keyboaed and great battery life.(as long as you got good signal and arent constantly switching towers)

and winmo 6.5 isnt dead.

it will be once wp7 comes out. ](*,)

also the nexus we get from sprint will be different and more than likely will have no major issues. the hero for sprint is much different than the other hero models for other networks.

It looks uglier? lol..but Nexus One will not be different for sprint, it will be same as verizon version..reason is the carrier is completely staying out of it..the one handling activations and selling the device will be Google itself..sprint will not be designing it, Google will...

Palm Pre- Web OS and the speedy multitasking

Hero- Android (2.1!) and Android Marketplace

Surely both of these phones are less laggy and faster than the TP2, so they are a plus in my book... what's YOUR thoughts? make a switch at all? if yes, with who?

Web OS is dead. Never took off, and no one develops for it. I wouldn't go anywhere near it. They have....800 apps? Yikes.

The Hero IS laggy, so not sure why you think it's faster. It's inferior hardware. You can run Android on your TP2 today, and it's faster than the Hero. According to notes on the latest build, it's faster than a Droid. No sound for app/games is kind of annoying, but development is moving along at a good clip so I'd consider it a valid option.

So....Palm might be less laggy, but that's because it's going nowhere, you don't get lag with zero motion=P You already have a phone that runs android better than the Hero. Unless you come up with another option to switch to, I say stay with what you have.

If you want speed, there's roms for that:mrgreen:

webOS is incredibly fast, particularly with the overclock hack.
I'd really recommend you try a Verizon Palm Pre Plus at a local kiosk and just watch how the thing zips, if you hack that it can be considerably faster.

Android is basically the 2nd coming of Windows Mobile, they're incredibly lax with their hardware requirements and have friggan ads all over their software. Take a look at old android devices that can't update OS, or wait an incredibly long time. Also, fire up the app store and let's see how many useful apps you find. There is no way Android can keep up its full set of steam for too long without either making multiple operating systems or simply leaving phones left behind while they set stricter hardware requirements (ala WM7).

webOS itself has a lot more apps than people think, the app store is purely quality apps that developers have to pay to get on. There are numerous palm fan sites which have apps you can download and if you add that to the palm app store there is actually quite a large number of apps in general.

Beyond that, webOS is setup to allow iPhone apps to be ported over. Once that starts coming into fruition it'll be even better.

Like I said though, simply try the device. The keyboard is the most questionable item on the device, but everything else is solid. If you really want, hold out for a new Palm device later this year, it will likely be a larger screen model.

They are not suppose to get update OS....all phones come to an end and you get new phones which are better. Android is open source so if you wanted you can get the updates just like windows mobile. If palm survives this, and makes future updates of webos they will cut palmpre out of the loop as well eventually. Since android is open source a manufacturer can control what they want to use and what they don't and optimize their phone or contribute if they wanted to

On that note, have you seen the processor on the Galaxy S(android phone)? it will run circles around even the best wp7 phone that comes out (mostly since snapdragon is the only allowed processor)

Not to mention Google is paying money for manufacturers to use Android so expect Android to grow a lot within the next few years.

Not really. You will come back and ask for WM6.5. WM7 is on iphone path.

The junta here will only appreciate WM or Android. Rest is for girls, dumbos or indifferent people - dont ask why.

Re: Might Leave TP2. Need help deciding!

I recently lost my fully tweaked and overclocked Pre...it was awesome especially at 800MHZ. I will probably get another Pre soon but in the mean time I scored an HP2 and have really enjoyed playing around with WM again. It's great to have blue-tooth file transfer, voice dialing and wifi routing/tethering again...but that said the Pre does a lot of things so much better that I do miss Webos if not the Pre itself. The HP2 feels like work of art compared to the rather cheap feeling PRE, however the Webos OS browser, screen/P2Z, multitasking, contact management etc quickly make up for that. So while you can count me among the Evo 4G probably... (though really hoping Palm produces a watershed device) I'm no android fan. Android feels somewhat like running windows with SPB mobile shell to me. If you are going to leave WM consider making a clean break and try something new...the Palm Pre particularly the Pre Plus is a really great device that can be had for a song right now. If you don't mind paying more for Verizon service you can get the hotspot service for FREE right now too. Good luck with your decision.
