Warning about Sprint 6.5 and .cabs
 

Just wanted to throw out this heads up to anyone running the Official Sprint 6.5 ROM. Be cautious about the .cabs you download as some of them don't work well with this ROM. Just had my phone get screwed up after installing a few cabs on it. i couldn't uninstall the cab because when I went to my settings tab the screen just stayed blank. I believe it was a cab that worked with the bar up top. either the battery % cab or the one that shows the icons of the programs that are currently running. Regardless of the cause, I had to do the "turn off the phone and then press talk-end-power then press vol up" crap to hard reset my phone. If any gurus out there read this, is there anyway to have a sticky thread that is only for cabs for the 6.5 ROM?

It is posted all over that stuff made prev to 2.5 does make nice and to not install it. Especially task bars. You just may have missed it.

there is truth to that op, i've been thru 7 hard resets so far. but what cabs are you downloading?

So for us out there that want to make the stock ROM more user friendly, what do we need to look for before installing a cab file?

from all my searches i used to do for taskbars & hd walls cabs & such the ppl who would post that it wouldnt work with 6.5 or vice versa with 6.1 are the ppl who have had me ever so cautious since my upgrade & actually the reason likely why im bawlz stock .... without that sticking in my thick skull id possibly have installed cabs like a nut

make sure whatever cabs you want are 6.5 and sense 2012.xxx compatible and you'll be alright. the same cabs i used to beautify my tp2 works on the hd2 also.

Ok, so I found out what did it. It was the cab

4ColumnsStart&AllPrograms_v1.1

That is making my settings tab blank. So now how do I remove a program if I can't see any of the icons on the settings tab? Man I suck at this.

Can you get in your start menu? You have a settings shotrcut in there as well that may get you in.

either way I go to to the settings tab the screen is blank (besides the bottom and top bars). AND once I try getting into the settings tab my home page goes blank as well (same thing as settings, bars at the top and bottom...see example photos). I can still receive texts and calls though.

Your pics show the settings link on the slider. Hit the top left corner, the start menu. Then when that pops up, hit settings. That is how I have got around the blank screens anyway. I think I had to hit it a couple times though.

Nope, that won't work either. Does anyone know of a way to go in and remove a program another way or am I stuck doing a hard reset again. BTW soft resets don't help either.

Common sense.
ie don't be cab download happy.
Read & Re-read all the info.
A good cab should be supported by lots of discussion not be from just a post attachment.

That's why the 6.5 tweaks thread posted is kinda dangerous when it's just a cab attached based on one person's decision not on a thread.

Yeah...when I installed in call recording cab.....voice command stopped working and I deleted it and its still there and it works now... weird....so not all cab files are 6.5 friendly...Beware!!

Try uninstalling thru activesync. That should do it.

Do you have Co0kie's Home Tab mod installed? I've ran into lots of compatibility issues with Sprint's Windows Mobile 6.5 and home tab mod.
The only way I've been able to fix most of my Sense screw ups is by first uninstalling Co0kie's Home Tab mod then uninstalling the other cabs at fault.

I've hear nothing but bad things about the new sprint stock rom, I was waiting for it, and calling multiple times a week ever since november, but gave up and waiting and flashed a custom rom.

it amazing how much better our chefs here at ppcg and xda are better and faster than those getting paid by sprint.

i suggest flash a custom rom before running into more problems.

Can you get to settings from SPB Mobile Shell?

Some times switching between shells will let me get to things one of them won't

I ran into the same problem with this program. Luckily, I didn't have too many programs loaded on the phone yet and did a hard reset.
