Wifi, Data, E-mail

I have 3 things I could use some help with. I have looked & searched through this forum as well as XDA but havn't found anything that works right.

1.) Wifi
I live in a rural area so I use my wifi connection at home. NRGZ28 used to have a tweak in his past roms in the Comm Manager under the wifi section where if selected, anytime you connect to the internet it would first check for any available wifi connections and if none are in range, would automatically connect to the sprint data connection. He seems to have missed:removed that on his latest roms. any idea's where I can find this cab or what the reg edits might be for that?

2.) Data
Again, while I'm around the house, I don't use the Sprint data too much so I've been looking for a cab/regedit that automatically disconnect the data after a certain amount of time. I've found a few options but they seem to cause issues when needing to connect again. Any suggestions?

3.) E-mail
I dont know if this only applies to hotmail or not but any time I click send/receive to check e-mail, POutlook ALWAYS connects to the sprint data to check the e-mail regardless if I have wifi on or not. I cannot get it to check the e-mail through the wifi connection even though weather/twitter/opera work just fine with wifi. Any ideas on how to get Hotmail in POutlook to use a wifi connection if available and the data connection only if there is no wifi available?

I appreciate any help that I can get with these issues and hope to get some feedback.

Thanks and have a great weekend!!!

WOW! 74 views, 2 days later and nobody wants to help. So much for this forum helping out. I thought thats why we have this forum.

Disappointed!

I don't use wifi much but I'll try to help

Why not just remove sprint #777 internet dialing altogether? This way you can still make calls but it won't dial for internet and just use the wifi.

(it takes 20 sec max to re-add the connection if you ever need it)

Really appreciate the reply gTen.

I don't want to remove sprint data because I still use that on a daily basis. I'm just looking to make Wifi a priority since I don't have EVDO here at home, but when I'm not home, i'd still need to use data.

Thanks again!

Thanks gTen,

When I loaded the cab you suggested, i remembered that NRG includes a similar app (just seems updated) which is called Data controller. Seems like that would do the trick but has a few too many steps to it (4-5 different things to push).

Here's the app in NRG's rom:

What I'm kind of going for is something similar to the Wifi & Bluetooth toggle switch i found around here where one click toggles it on or off.

Here's a shot of my quicklink for WiFi toggle:

I guess I'm being picky but I do appreciate your time and suggestions.

I know this may not be exactly what you are looking for fditty but I use Wifi pretty much all the time too but I still have a data connection with Page Plus if I really need it so what I do is I have a little free program called No Data that is a nice simple interface that completely turns the data connection on or off.

What I'm thinking you could do is just leave the data connection off which would force the Wifi for all that stuff you are talking about, then when you know you not going to be in a Wifi area and you need something you could turn it back on.

Pretty much if you put it in your shortcut menu it is a simple process.

Hope it helps.

Edit: although it looks like that above program does essentially the same thing but you might still want to check it out as I think it may have a few less steps.

Re: Wifi, Data, E-mail

Well, my original intent was to have an auto data disconnect after....2 min lets say. So if my data has been idle for 2 minutes, the data would automatically disconnect. I've seen this for GSM devices but doesn't work well with my CDMA. Having to manually connect/disconnect data almost seems like it's not worth the trouble. My wifi for instance automatically disconnects when i put the phone to sleep. I'm kind of looking for something similar with the data. I don't always remember to turn data on/off before putting it away and thats why i'm looking for something like this.

I do appreciate all the help and feedback and you have been THANKED! If anyone else has any other idea's/suggestions, I would really appreciate it. As well as the other 2 questions I had.

Thanks Again!

Re: Wifi, Data, E-mail

I think it may be kinda tough to find a data timed out off thing or any other way to manage it outside of the way you already know now, although it would be great and for a programmer probably very easy.

But never the less I say this more as at least in my opinion, these things are so hard core difficult to get the data off in the first place as they don't want it to be that easy.

Again in my opinion this device and any one like it are really built from the start for that to stay on 24/7 as they want everyone to be using that data connection an get hooked on it so they won't be complaining for being forced to pay extra for it if they didn't want it in the first place.

If it were easy to shut off more people would find out how much they really don't need it and then the carriers would get a lot more heat about these mandatory data plans and they don't want that let me tell you.

An this gets very supported too by all those who need data plans as they know those who are getting forced to pay are helping to keep the cost down for them and helping to pay for the development of their next faster speed network.

Sorry to whine about that on your thread fditty but I've been back an forth on this topic for months now and thats just the way this is so I don't ever see too much coming in what you are looking for outside of what I told you.

Best of luck though, hope you find something and if you do please come by an post about it.
