NV ITEMs (CDMA TP2)

Hi everyone,

I am currently using an unlocked Sprint TP2 in Canada, other than the GPS, everything else functions great. I have tried many things, including:

1) settings/phone/cdma services/location settings - on
2) quickgps - downloaded
3) /windows/xtra.bin - deleted, quickgps retried
4) qpst > EFS explorer > CGPS_ME, CGPS_PE - deleted
5) qpst > Service Programming > GPSOne - configured
6) PRI / PRL - updated to verious versions for test
7) full hard reset with ##786# and re-do everything from the start
and I am sure I missed a few...

Because I am located in Canada, I can not just pop into sprint store to get a new one, even though the phone is still under warranty, and does have a good sprint ESN...

I am pretty much out of idea at the moment, and really would love to get the GPS to work... right now I am looking into NV ITEMS as the cause of this, if anyone can send me dumpped NV items (in TXT and QCN) with RF NV Manager from a TP2 with working GPS will be much appreciated...

Thanks you in advance for any help you can provide!

GPSTool, HTC GPSTool (1.1x, 1.2x, 1.3x), TomTom, Garmin Mobile XT, Bing, Google Map none worked. Tried leaving the phone outside for 30 mins (more than once), didn't even get signal for one sat...

Had Vogue, Diamond, Touch Pro previously and never had problem like this...

currently its open enrollment for tep insurance til end of month, add it, then call tech support a day later and get advance exchange. they send new phone anywhere. you send back bad one. all for only the cost of the insurance, 7.00 no deductible. make sure you relock bad one before sending it back.

I have had some problems with my GPS then fiqured out I needed to have the blue tooth on to get it to work. I know this works for me with Googel maps and a few other programs. I tried to get a lock on the GPS for 15 min then i turned on the bluetooth and found 8 sat. in 5 seconds. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the suggetions so far, I did a lot of research on TP2 and GPS, and find that I am not the only one, seems like a lot of people have the exact same problem.

jcable2: I did try the new sprint wm 6.5 update, with updated PRI and radio, same situtation.

charlesnett: will I be able to file for insurance even though I am located in Canada? I got the phone off here, from a guy with very good repulation.

jhabet: my bluetooth is always on, to use heads free in my car.

Re: NV ITEMs (CDMA TP2)

If your TP2 is a verizon branded TP2 and is flashed for use on a different network like Metro PCS or Cricket mobile than it is quite hard to get the GPS to function correctly.I have a Sprint branded Touch Pro 2 that i flashed for use on the Cricket Network and i always use a custom cooked rom, never a stock rom.Stock roms are slow, tend to have alot of lag and just cant compare with any good chefs rom.Even using a Sprint branded TP2 that i flashed for use on Cricket i get an excellent GPS signal and i usually just use Quick GPS and then open Google Maps,Bing Map,or Amaze GPS and i usually get a lock within about 5-20 seconds. If i use Quick GPS and the HTC GPS Tool then i get a sattelite lock in just 1-3 seconds. And Cricket didnt even offer GPS when i 1st started using GPS with my original Touch Pro.and now the GPS also works great on my TP2 also. And i never have to activate bluetooth to get my GPS to function correctly.I dont even see why that would be necessary, but i dont use a verizon TP2 so maybe that makes a difrference with blutooth active?have u made sure the GPS is in the on position in the dialer options menu?Thats about all i can think of.Good Luck

my tp2 is a Sprint version, which I flashed to use in Canada... as I said, everything works asides from GPS.

lbcary, would it be possible to send me a copy of your NV items? I just want to double check to make sure I didn't mess up... and really, I just ran out of things I can try...

I should also add, the seller of this phone had no problem with the GPS, like I said before, I believe him.

I guess you are roaming right?
I didn't know sprint had a network in canada. I wonder if you are roaming that could be the source of your trouble.
Are you using the gsm part of your tp2? Maybe gps doesn't work on the tp2 on gsm?
I really don't think your rom is the problem. GPS should work fine with the stock rom. If you have quickgps, have assisted gps enabled with at least a 32kb log file, have your location set to on, and have a good signal then gps should work unless you've got a hardware problem. Good Luck to you! :D

he flashed it to work in Canada so i think its not on sprint anymore. unless im mistaken i would think it would be on a Canadian network. which maybe the problem.

Re: NV ITEMs (CDMA TP2)

Yes, I flashed it to work on Canadian CDMA network.

Maybe someone can tell me if Sprint TP2's gps will function under GSM mode, I do have a rogers account with activated SIM card that works on my TP2 (of course, no GPS, tested)

I am asking for a dumpped copy of NV ITEMs because I suspect during the trail and error of making it working on the Canadian network I may have screwed something up in the NV... unless someone can confirm for me when I do ##786# it resets the NV back to factory value, much like it resets the PRI and PRL back to factory values.

I also tried to use the so-called "verizon agps fix" which uses telus AGPS server, same problem.

Aside from my vogue, my diamond and touch pro 1 are both from the states, and GPS functions correctly.

Was Vzw the orginal network for the phone. because if it wasnt the Vzw agps fix wouldnt work either.

"verizon agps fix" uses telus (canadian) agps server, because it is accessible by any network.

maybe I should start a thread and list all the GPS fixes I have found and didn't work for me... lol...
