Tethering not working after Sprint 6.5 install. Help!!!
 

Installed the Sprint Stock 6.5 ROM (upgrading from Stock 6.1 ROM) and I have 2 issues. (1) I was able to USB tether via ICS and WModem Fix cab and wifi tether via HTC WifiSharing cab before (no registry edits) with no problem. After installing the update, I cannot tether with either. I don't want to use PdaNet because I've read it is not as consistent as the cabs. I live in a rural area where broadband is almost non-existent and was excited that the cab worked on 6.1. The ICS cab downloads and creates a Sprint option, but the PC will not connect to the network. After clicking connect, the status changes to "check usb cable" and just stays there. Nothing is wrong with the cable, because Active Sync works fine. I installed Mr. X Tethering Tracking Hotfix cab, and it didn't help. I installed Calkulin's Tethering Hotfix cab, and it didn't work either. I even downloaded Merlin (Marlin) registry editor & attempted my first registry edit following Boo Boo's instructions, and that didn't work. Someone please tell me what the problem could be. And, no, I don't get the 67 error. I have an active data connection, but the tethering just won't work. Should I reflash the 6.5 ROM to clear the cabs and registry edits (remove programs doesn't remove some of these cabs)?

(2) Problem on 6.1 and now 6.5. Seems I have a ghost text message. My Inbox folder path is showing 1 unread text message, though, there isn't one. Against my own will, I even cleared out my text folder (in, out, draft, sent & deleted), and it still shows. Any suggestions on this as well? Besides those two issues, I like the 6.5 update.

Question. Why was it necessary for you to do the registry edits if you installed Browns new cab listed in that posts? I did the regristry edit, as noted before and they didn't work. Thanks. I just need to confirm the steps. Seems you installed the cab, and still had to edit the registry...

Whats wrong with using PDANet w/ the stock 6.5 Rom? I havent tried it yet personally but its a great app. I dont know what it wouldn't be every bit as good (or better) than one of the .cabs.

Something about PDAnet I dont know? I'd assumed it was the best tethering app around once you make the necessary registry edits to your device so you don't get charged for tethering.

That makes me wonder though, have the recommended registry edits we're familiar with changed with 6.5? I applied the TP2 Cleanup .cab which enables Internet Sharing. I dont know if it makes any of the other so called "stealth" registry tweaks or not though. Should we apply any others before tethering on this new stock rom?

I tested PDANet and it works just fine with 6.5. No registry changes etc... To me it is cheaper than hacking away if I count the time spent and the chance to screw-up. I use 1.80 not the 2.00 version as not clear upgrade was needed.

Either of the solutions will WORK for tethering. It is just that there were a few registry edits that have been "recommended" to reduce the chance of being isolated as using tethering. Obviously no matter what hacks you make, higher data usage is a pretty large giveaway.

from the TP2 tweaks sticky thread is still recommend and works with 6.5. The stealth cab and enable ICS.

One of these ought to work, as you all are having no problems.

I've also done all of Boo Boo's Reg Edits. Something's gotta give. After I flash the Sprint 6.5 ROM, I ought to be able to tether by using at least one of these options... I'm so frustrated. :disgust:

I feel the registry edits are the way to go because all of the old cabs I tried removed the BT PAN option which I feel is best way to tether. Some say it is slower, I don't notice that if it is, most people seem to agree it drains the battery considerably less than wi-fi. I leave my bluetooth on all day.

Assuming you have already enabled ICS with a registry tweak, what other registry changes unique to 6.5 stock rom need to be applied in order to match those registry tweaks commonly refereed to as "stealth" tweaks, etc.

There were a couple specific registry changes but I cant find them now. Does anyone have the tweaks or an URL?

Yeah that cabshould work fine, its been used since Mike first posted it and I dont think that I have heard of anyone get hit for extra data using this cab.


And for your ghost text, check out this thread( http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...t+text+message ) post #4. Its a cab for reseting your text count.

Poo434, you sound like you know your way around windows mobile and about the cab files. But from one tech to another, when you have exhausted all possibilities, it might be time to start the puzzle over. Since you have 6.5 on there, I am guessing you have not installed a lot of applications and are too comfortable with it yet. At this time it might be best to start over and flash it again.

I use only 3 cabs. Mr. X & Mighty Mikes tethering hotfix, the two reg hacks for the DLL and changing "Phone as a Modem" to "Sprint" and I use the HTC Wifi Sharing program.

Hey y'all, I finally got this to work around Wednesday. After a third flash of the Sprint Stock 6.5 ROM, I'm able to tether (in fact, I'm posting via USB tethering now) with only the three changes to the registry. The only internet CAB I have installed is the HTC Wifi Router for wireless tethering. Thanks for all of your help. In my angst to tether again, I was connected the USB cord to the PC too fast. I haven't installed any of the ICS CABs, and I'm still good to go. Thanks again.
