Why are cooks including Footprint on TP2 ?

Footprint does not work on a CDMA TP2
Chef's are making great roms, but including
a useless program like Footprint. Please do
not include footprint on future roms.
especially on the main tabs. footprint needs
a magnetomator to work, which TP2 does not have.

It can work on Touch Pro 2 and does not need a magnetometer.
It uses GPS location.

Aside from that, this sub forum is for Rom releases only.
Not for uneducated posts or rants.

If it's useless (to you) then you're free to choose any ROM that does NOT include it. you are also free to disable it (like I do the "stocks" and "twitter" tabs) AND I have used Footprints on my TP2 on occasion..

It's actually pretty neat.

(P.S. a 'magnetometer' will not determine your GPS location. :) )

use your manila settings and you can remove footprints from the "main tabs"

goto settings....personalize.....home screen tabs.....uncheck what you do not want...

there should be a 'lurkers' sub forum where they have to get their post count above say 50... before they can start new threads... and all the helpful ppl can go to said forums and answer the same ?s a couple dozen times until the noobs learn to "search" or "think" before going out into gen. pop.

Well, to come to the OP's defense (kinda), a lot of ROMs have included Footprints when it doesn't work... but there have been a few ROMs that have Footprints actually working. But you can always remove Footprints so whatever.

That's fair :)

(I've always removed the tab, but the one time i left it alone, i played with it and it was pretty cool.. maybe I removed it from the ROMs that didnt have it working by accident hahahahaha... oh well.. it is what it is :) )

it is amazing all rude comments i got on this post, I thought this was a Forum Group to share knowledge in to improve our mobile devices. I made a simple comment after researching, and finding no working versions of Footprint on a TP2. GPS is not the same. and i havent even seen a workinfg GPS version. too all the one's that made that comment about GPS, I havent seen it.....put your link if you have such knowledge...
i tried Footprint on a HD2, and i know how it is supose to work.
all i was saying if a program doesnt work , why are you putting it in a rom.
and too all the people on a power trips on here "get a life", its just software.
you dont have to be rude to people making comment, this is still america, free speech
i just was sharing a problem that footprint doesnt work......

I notice that a lot in the forums. Someone starts a thread that has been told before he/she gets walloped with sarcasm and needs to search, yada yada yada. I do a search before i start a thread, and I get hundreds of post. I look through most before giving up. Lucky for me someone steps in and actually helps out. So maybe next time I will post a thread asking for the exact phrase I need to enter to solve my problem for my search. Because obviously I am not typing in the phrase correctly. ](*,) And for Whats it worth, I could never seem to get Footprint to work either. i just get rid of it in the customize tab. But what some people don't seem to understand is including it in the Custom Rom, means to the majority of people you are taking up valuable real-estate with a worthless program. :protest: If these phones came with a couple gigs of space built in, it wouldn't matter. :( But that is the manufactures fault, I mean I have a 16gb miniSD card in my phone, you can't tell me that HTC couldn't up the storage from 251mb to 16gb... :evil4:

I've flashed over 10 different manilla 2.5 roms, and Energy Rom is the only one that foot prints worked on my TP2. Since I never use it, I always disable it from the home tabs.

Yeah, except CDMA TP2s DO have the capability of having Footprints working; it just doesn't work smoothly and not all ROMs are capable of it. Magnetometers are NOT required for what Footprints does (it more or less takes your geolocation and adds it to a photo/location you set). But I think most cooks are aware if Footprints isn't working in their ROM, but I don't think a few megs of less space will help you out or is worth fixing.

I don't think anyone said "get a life" or anything of the sort; it's understandable that people may get frustrated when they see the same old questions asked or the same things said all the time. It's also understandable that Search isn't all that helpful sometimes and maybe you do ask a question that's been repeated, and other people should be understanding of that.

And actually, you give up your right to "free speech" when you register for a privately owned forum such as PPCGeeks. Just letting you know.

I've always used energy ROMs as well.. (tried a few others, but never messed with the footprints tab)..

to make footprints work, you have to take a picture w/ the camera first, then send it to footprints.. once it's in footprints, you can manipulate the tags, and add the geotagging to it.

I was unable to begin w/ footprints, and add a new footprint (this could be because I never played w/ the program/feature before)

Seems backwards from how it's supposed to work, but it DOES work.

when you start a thread with rude accusatory remarks, followed by a demand for chefs, who owe you nothing, then this is the response you get.

if you had started the thread with

"Hi, It seems to me that footprints does not usually work in ROMs and I am led to believe that you need a magnometer to make it work. Am I mistaken on this point? Why is it that this feature is indeed included in some roms? Thanks!"

then you would have gotten your question answered and the thread moved to the right forum. Try writing a letter to Jay-Z and telling him "dude your lyrics suck, and your vodka is terrible, stop rapping and remove said vodka from stores."

you're using the wrong example to preach about "noob rights" The fact is that when I started out here with my diamond and didn't know squat, I asked some questions of very good cooks that I KNOW now they must have been kind of frustrated. But they never said anything scathing to me, must have been that I asked NICELY and as soon as I started really knowing stuff I started sharing what I knew in their kitchen and ROM threads so they didn't always have to.

Instead of complaining about poor treatment and being victimized think of how you may have spawned such reaction.

You may also want to apply this to your life, if "things happen to you" and you think it's unfair it is time to take responsibility for how people treat you and what happens to you. :headbang:

Alright, since this has turned into an argument this thread is over.

Remember guys that every one starts some where and this is the internet. It's not serious business.
