Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
Hi everyone,
I'm currently running the stock 6.1 ROM for the Sprint TP2. I use my tethering capabalities regularly and am wondering if the new ROM will keep me from being able to do that the same way (free). Anyone know? |

I believe you can tether just fine my friend, the new update will not stop you, just install the tether cab and you are good to go.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
Does this cab allow BT TETHER?
Just tried this cab and lost the BT PAN option! |
Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
Not sure if anyone else has had any other problems with this as well, but I couldn't get tethering to work after I updated. I tried reg edits and cabs, and I tried it with HTCWiFi Router also with no success. Internet Sharing would always wait for the network even if I had previously established a connection, and HTC just had no internet connectivity.
I had an old version of WMWiFi Router on my SD and tried that. The Wifi doesn't work either, but for some reason the USB tethering works... Is there a different tweek I missed or something? |
Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
I am having the same issues. Well when I go to install certain cabs it says they have insuffficient privilleges.

I created this very simple cab to enable tethering creating 2 registry entries.
It stays after resetting and it still allows Bluetooth Pan |

No, but they are not needed apparently. This works fine with just the two registry entries.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
RSBROWN,
check out my dilemma to see if you can help. Thanks. Installed the Sprint Stock 6.5 ROM (upgrading from Stock 6.1 ROM) and I have 2 issues. (1) I was able to USB tether via ICS and WModem Fix cab and wifi tether via HTC WifiSharing cab before (no registry edits) with no problem. After installing the update, I cannot tether with either. I don't want to use PdaNet because I've read it is not as consistent as the cabs. I live in a rural area where broadband is almost non-existent and was excited that the cab worked on 6.1. The ICS cab downloads and creates a Sprint option, but the PC will not connect to the network. After clicking connect, the status changes to "check usb cable" and just stays there. Nothing is wrong with the cable, because Active Sync works fine. I installed Mr. X Tethering Tracking Hotfix cab, and it didn't help. I installed Calkulin's Tethering Hotfix cab, and it didn't work either. I even downloaded Merlin (Marlin) registry editor & attempted my first registry edit following Boo Boo's instructions, and that didn't work. Someone please tell me what the problem could be. And, no, I don't get the 67 error. I have an active data connection, but the tethering just won't work. Should I reflash the 6.5 ROM to clear the cabs and registry edits (remove programs doesn't remove some of these cabs)? (2) Problem on 6.1 and now 6.5. Seems I have a ghost text message. My Inbox folder path is showing 1 unread text message, though, there isn't one. Against my own will, I even cleared out my text folder (in, out, draft, sent & deleted), and it still shows. Any suggestions on this as well? Besides those two issues, I like the 6.5 update. |

I ended up hard resetting the phone (clear storage) after installing some of the other fixes and just created the cab I posted afterward instead. I just installed it twice because the CMGuaridan has to be modified first before it will allow the force sprint connection to take and that worked fine. The problem with the other cabs is that they installed a file and it seemed to cause problems with the 6.5 update and I still had to go back and make the registry edits myself. There is a cab out to enable the old fix unread messages shortcut that used to be in the systems settings but I don't have it anymore. I think it was called "clear unread messages" cab. |

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
I have tried the first two cabs, and I tried boo boos way and nothing is working on wifi with WMwifirouter but usb is working. I can't uninstall or reinstall wmwifirouter, it keeps failing. Time to do a hard restart yet again.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
I got mobile wifi router working but not bt or usb tethering... I don't see the comm manager wifirouter working, try installing a different version!

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
Are you guys talking about tethering with Internet sharing. if so then you may have to re-install the tethering hack to get it to give you the free internet sharing again. you have to re-install programs like that whenever you flash a new rom or update the older ones.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
I've tried BooBoo's way twice and I just keep getting "none" in the pull down box. What is the best way to do it without worrying about getting a huge bill from Sprint?

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
What did I screw up? GPS still works and I recieve messages, and when I did the ICS my laptop connected to the web, but IE and Opera on the phone won't connect to the web.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
Interesting dilemma. I recently flashed my rom to 6.5 and followed the instructions listed on this thread (and everything worked). I had problems similar to one of the posters where stuff wouldn't stay. However, I applied one of the cabs again and it seemed to work. After that I decided to hard reset my device again so I could install the cleanup cab and tweaks. Now I'm having the same problem as the other poster who can't get it to say connect. I've tried every cab and registry edit and can't get them to work. I'm going to try a hard reset and than follow everything step by step. Any suggestions feel free.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
I have the same problem. I appreciate your help if you find the solution. I have hard reboot my device and install all possible cabs with no luck.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
I tethered using wmodem before on TP w 6.1. This no longer works as I am now stucked on the username verifyscreen when I dial in. I have a feeling some additional changes are also needed to get wmodem to work on TP2 W/ 6.5. Much appreciate any suggestion. Thanks

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?
hmm for 6 - Select Sprint under type of connection., does this mean where it says PC Connection: I should now be able to drop down to Sprint instead of USB? hmm brain fart but Im thinking it should just read USB. ahH thanks.
