question about 6.5 upgrade

"All data will be deleted from the device during the upgrade (music, pictures, 3rd party applications, etc). Be sure to back up all of your data using ActiveSync"

This was written on the HTC website, just wanted to make sure that contacts stayed, or do i need to back them up as well?

Thanks

Pretty sure you will loose everything.

It will be just like when you got the device new, although I'm pretty sure the Micro card will be untouched.

I'm pretty sure that you have to not think of this as a "upgrade" in the sense like you may be thinking but a complete new ROM so what happens is just like a full reset where everything gets wiped out and replaced.

what is the best way to back up my contacts. All of my other data is on my sd card so i'm not worried about that. I tried looking through activesync but didn't see any way to backup contacts. I don't have a gmail account, worth it to get one?

Thanks again

Do you sync your contacts with Outlook? If so, then you should be fine, when you resync your email account, your contacts will pull through. (Mind you this is for a straight up Outlook account (exchange server) I don't know about an Outlook account configured to pull email from yahoo or google...

Well if you mean via some sort of full system backup program then just remember that you can't do system restore from a 6.1 backup to 6.5.

I suppose if the program allowed selective backup or restores and you really really knew what you were doing you could try it but as far as I remember, most have recommended against this.

As I'm sure most will be replying the best way is to have it via Outlook but I'm assuming if he had that he wouldn't even be making this post.

I personally use microsoft myphone, it will auto update nightly with whatever you want to back up, or you can use PIMbackup, I've attached the zip, just unzip it to your sd card, run the .exe file and save your backup to the sd and reload it when you're done. But IMO myphone is better, because you can modify the files on the computer, you just need a windows live account.
