ebay and my tp2

ok so i have never sold a phone on ebay before. i have to sell my tp2, sigh, and i had some questions for people here who have sold phones before.

is it a good idea to leave it unlocked? if so how would i go about telling the buyer? or should i just relock it? and is it able to be unlocked again by the buyer if they wanted to?

thanks for any input

leaving it unlock is fine. but if i were you say it's hardspl unlock and not sim unlocked, as they are different things.

also if your willing to do a quick sell, PM me your price and pictures

Selling mine as well, the Telus CDMA version. Often your CDMA version is worth a bit less than the AT&T GSM version.

Personally, I'd AVOID ebay if possible just because of all the transaction fees, (think it's 8% or so) not to mention you can get heavily scammed.

I'd deal locally (cash) or via EMT (Email money transfer) depending on what your country uses. Neither of those can use a "chargeback" feature.

I sold one of mine and I flashed default sprint rom back on there and re-locked it.. and it ended up selling for 340.. which isn't bad considering it was used.

thanks guys. sent you a pm stanglifemike and twe90kid.

yeah, i am very hesitant about ebay...when dealing locally are there stores that buy phones at a decent price. i just wouldn't even know where to look to sell...i guess maybe craigslist. well thanks for the input glad i waited to ask before posting on ebay

gazelle.com will pay like $180 for it. You prob. want more but if you cant sell it then I would check it out.

Re: ebay and my tp2

If you do decide to go through ebay, MAKE 100% SURE that the person that buys it has a CONFIRMED address on Paypal. Also, make sure however you ship, you get a tracking number and delivery confirmation and HOLD ON to them in case the buyer tries to scam you. If they do a chargeback, Paypal will put a hold on those funds and if they have a confirmed address, all you have to do is supply Paypal with the tracking number and delivery confirmation, and the hold will be lifted.

This happened to me once. I've always put in my ebay listings that any buyers that do not have a confirmed address shouldn't bother bidding because I will not honor their winning bid.

So again,
Make sure buyer has a confirmed address on paypal,
Get tracking number and delivery confirmation
Hold onto the receipts!

I printed my shipping label online using UPS so that way i won't lose the tracking info :)

man i wish verizon would do a buy back sorta system, even just credit your account toward another phone. but they'd probably rip ya on it, haha.

that gazelle site seems pretty cool. the big plus is i wouldn't have to worry about anything really, just does their inspection match my description so i get the money the originally quoted. but yeah thank you very much for that!

man ebay is startin to spook me. i know its rare that bad things happen but i just hate having that feeling that it could turn into a nightmare. maybe i should just post a listing here on the forums to sell it. however i guess the same kinda problems can happen...

Well you can still lose even if you have delivery confirmation. Essentially the buyer says "item not as described" and that they'll ship the item back.

For all you know, they shipped you a box with a brick in it. You sign for it, they have YOU on file now (confirmation / tracking) and you lose your case with Paypal. Scammer wins.

Re: ebay and my tp2

Ebay has screwed me over a couple of times (not in regards to phones)... primarily where I sell something, can provide tracking info, yet the person I sold it to claimed to never have received it. Despite providing the correct tracking number and all information I could, paypal sided with the other person so I was out of both my stuff and my money.

It's happened a couple of times. I don't sell stuff on ebay any more. I'm tired of getting ripped off by people who just file to get their money back even after they have what they bought. It's like a total coin flip whether you'll win a paypal dispute or not, no matter how much info you can provide. I bet you could send them a notarized signature saying that the buyer got the item and still lose a dispute.

I have never lost a dispute, but that isn't saying it won't happen. But what makes matters even worse now is that sellers can't even leave negative feedback, only buyers can. So now you can:

1) Loose your money :angry3:
2) Loose your item :(
3) Get a neg!!! :protest:

I no longer sell on ebay a lot anymore. Craigslist is even worse, I will never ship anything on Craigslist. Pick up only and at a public place to boot!!! ](*,)

wow, so yeah def not gonna sell on ebay now, really don't need a headache over selling a phone.

so has any tried that gazelle.com site? that seems pretty promising, you don't get quite what you would selling it outright but you don't have to worry about "stuff goin south"

Re: ebay and my tp2

I sell on EBay all the time... I sold my TP1 a couple of months ago... and pretty much every other tech device i have ever owned... I have only had 1 problem in 10+ years and that was a guy not paying, so did not ship the device... I think most of it is only sell to people with 100% + ..

The seller does take a risk, but it gets a much higher selling population than i could ever see locally...

So maybe i have just been lucky all these years....

I sold my tp1 on gazelle and there were no problems. they gave me more than what the said on their online quote!! For a tp2 there giving $221 as of 2 minutes ago when i checked. I think i might be moving to the n1 soon (like you :headbang: ) when it comes to vzw and i will be selling on gazelle.com.

my only problem when getting the n1 is trying to convince vzw to give me an early upgrade

i would try local craigslist first and see if you can sell it for more than gazelle. if not you can always go the gazelle route.
sold about 4 phones on craigslist. usually within 3 days. (even got 100.00 on my moto q9c last fall)

thank you so much. i ended up doing it. my tp2 is near perfect condition with the original box and everything that came with it. i can't believe how easy it was to set up and they just emailed me a label, gonna send it off tomorrow. such a relief knowing i won't get screwed on ebay or some other site. truly appreciate your help. i've got other gadgets too i may throw on there, such a cool site! found a promo code online 'tweet10" gives you +5% cash back too, just worked for me

hopefully see you in the n1 forums soon. my buddy just got one for t-mobile and absolutely loves it. ever since i played with android on my tp2 i kinda got hooked.

and thanks to everyone else who gave their input, i appreciate it

Re: ebay and my tp2

i love ebay but i did get screwed for my mogul on it..even from a reputable buyer with 1200 feedback heres what happened.

did the whole auction, he bought it now. looked totally legit and he had great feedback so i wasnt even concerned. Shipped the phone out to a verified address using paypal shipping. A few days later the guy emails me that "i didnt sell him the phone in the pictures, there was a residue under the back battery case, and it was all scuffed up and looked 5 years old". well my mogul was in perfect shape just like i keep all of my phones. phones are like sneakers they always have to be clean lol.

so all in all i was irate. even though i was paid already the buyer opened a paypal claim. buyer sent me the phone back and when i received it....IT WASNT THE SAME MOGUL I SENT HIM! totally pulled a switch on me and got away with it.

only bad experience on ebay and im at about (300)

Re: ebay and my tp2

Can't you prove to paypal it's the wrong phone since the ESN obviously changed, always take pics before sending the device out, especially of the ESN and such... That way you have proof the guy screws you over
