How Many Mac users here?

My Macbook Pro just arrived via UPS on Thursday and I have to say that I'm quite impressed with Missing Sync from MarkSpace. It's light years beyond MS's ActiveSync client!

The amount of "at a glance" info you get in the sync panel...the amount of items you can sync (though I haven't messed with the itunes and iphoto or documents sync yet) is fairly robust. The interface is quite sexy as well. I think I'm going to like it in the world of Mac. Lol.

I've read the reviews on other products and though I've already purchased this...anybody syncing with a mac via usb or BT with any other software?

I have a MBP and I dont use ActiveSync, I use MyPhone to backup all my contacts, calendar, task, text messaging... its convenient because its a cloud base service and I can backup anytime I have a internet connection (WAN or LAN).
When I want to flash my phone to a custom rom I use bootcamp with Windows 7. I also use Fusion 3 when I use windows on MAC OS X but could never get the flashing to work because if some usb issue blocking the transfer.

Welcome to the MAC WORLD :)

I have a macbook. I have used MarkSpace's Missing Sync for three years now. It works much better than ActiveSync, although I do admit that with my Mogul I had to plug and unplug it many times before it saw it the first time. There have been MANY improvements since those days, and I plugged in the old mogul after it was reflashed with stock firmware recently and it was picked up right away.

Over at XDA there is a thread about a mac version of "HTC FLASHER." You can get the source on google.code but I have yet to figure out how to install something called XENITY to get it to compile and work.

Re: How Many Mac users here?

I use a MBP at work and always ended up with errors using Missing Sync. I tried reinstalling it a few times before giving up and now I just use google exchange. I only plug in my phone to charge it. I sync files via BT in Mac OS.
I'm down to only 1 piece of software that forces me to run Windows and I recently switched from Parallels 4 (XP) to Sun VirtualBOx (Windows 7). So far so good, but its only been a few days.
Good luck with your new Mac.

Guys, I've had a MBP for 3+ years. I've loved every minute of it. For what it's worth, I use Myphone to sync contacts as an earlier poster commented. And, I always flash my ROM's from the memory card. Flashing from the memory card is where it's at. So much more convenient.

Just bought my first mac a about 3 weeks ago. I absolutely love it, wish I would have done it sooner.

As far as syncing goes, I have not been doing any. When flashing roms I download the file, extract it using unrar and just copy the .nbh over to my storage card and flash it from storage.

I may venture in to more things between the two soon, but for now, I'm loving it.

Re: How Many Mac users here?

Missing Sync works really well for installing .CABs....

On the other hand if you mount the phone as a disk, you get "Apple Double" files and other file system garbage left befind.... I use MacCleanse, which detects these files when the disk is mounted, and removes them...You still end up with a little garbage left for files that are added/removed after the cleansing process.

If you use MacCleanse, you might note that this is feature addedd in the latest update.

What version of windows were you using because if your comparing that MAC to windows xp your probably right, but you were 2 OSs behind for windows. Not much of a comparison. Please update to windows 7 and try again.

You sir, are correct. I was using XP because of Vista's early issues. Windows7 does look quite promising and I will actually be purchasing it and running my MBP as a dual boot system. That said, a large part of my switching to a Mac for personal use was the need for Final Cut Pro Studio. I'm an editor by trade (though I use Avid primarily) and have need of an editing solution for my non-profit work. Adobe Premiere CS4 is great as well, but I still prefer FCP (and I prefer Avid over that....just not for 10-25k dollars).

Running 64bit is really the biggest advantage over windows xp.

Re: How Many Mac users here?

I have both Macs and pcs. I do all my flashing on my PC, though I have my email, contacts, and calendar on my mac. I use gmail, so I have it set up that my Macbook Pro syncs email, contacts, and calendar with Google's servers constantly, then on my TP2, i have activesync acting as an exchange server with Google. Emails, contacts, and calendar is then exactly within sync with Google, thus my computer. It works great. I don't remember the last time I synced via USB/bluetooth.

This is my solution for a mac user with a TP2.

Though I would agree with you that 64 bit OSs have their advantages, but it isn't the biggest advantage from XP to 7. XP does have a 64 bit version as well if you really need it.

I don't think your average person could tell a difference from a 64 bit to a 32 bit. I use both 64 and 32 versions of 7 for my computers.

I run a 15" MBP. I use SyncMate to sync up my calendar. That's about it. I run Windows Vista Ultimate in Bootcamp to flash new ROMs and various other things. Got a copy from college for super cheap for the Ultimate version. Less than $100

I actually like your method as well and would use it if I didn't like the notion of all my business being on Googles servers. They already know enough about me as it is. Lol.

I have a MB Pro running SL. I don't use it as much as I'd like too. Here are my reasons

1. Windows user my whole life and can get around it much faster than OSX
2. Hated having to boot or "bring" up Windows for stuff i needed to do.
3. Office is a dog in OSX. Runs smoother in my older Thinkpad.

Interesting. Good to know. I read that Office for Mac 2011 is supposed to be a vast improvement over previous versions, including the addition of Outlook for Mac finally. I haven't used Entourage but I've read that it isn't all that great so it should be nice to have Outlook on a Mac. FWIW, I'm loving the Mail app and don't even know if I'll need to get Outlook for Mac or purchase Office when I eventually setup Bootcamp and put Windows 7 on a partition. So far, the only thing I don't like about the Mail app is the To Do's don't allow you to mark a To Do as "in progress." You only get "mark completed." :(

The Apple Mail app is excellent imo. I use it for work and personal without a problem. Best of all, it is free with every mac. No 3 month trial bs. I don't see a need at all for outlook on a mac. It works so seamlessly with calendar and address book.

I would argue that office 2007 is much friendlier than 2008. I don't know why MS felt the need to make it so different. Hopefully 2011 will be better.

We have a MacBook here at home. It's my wife's computer. I forced her into buying it because I was so damn sick of fixing the PC at home when she'd get viruses, spyware, popups or killing the printer drivers somehow.
Now she has NO problems and I'm happy. She can run her lappy and I don't have to worry about any issues.
I have a VMware OSX machine that I use from time to time. It's a lot better at web surfing than my PC is.

Entourage supports multiple Exchange e-mail inboxes. I know because my brother runs it and it pisses me off that my Outlook doesn't do it. The Mac version is much better in this aspect.

Outlook for Mac 2011 is supposed to support this as well. I'll link you guys to the article I was reading when I find it...it's on the PC I just gave to my daughter. Lol. Perk of being a techie dad...the kids get my hand me downs but they're still in as good a condition as any refurb.:headbang:

Got a question for you guys. I am running OSX on my MBP with Parallels (WinXP Home 32bit) and am trying to flash a new ROM. My TP2 is connected via USB but is not recognized in Parallels or OSX. Any help/ideas? Thanks!

QMeli907 04-12-2010 12:51 PM

Re: How Many Mac users here?

When you connect it, a prompt should come up on your phone asking how yo want to connect it. There are 2 to 3 settings: ActiveSync, Disk Drive, and sometimes internet sharing if you are on a custom ROM. Touch the circle for ActiveSync. That should set it up to recognize it. Hope that helped

That is one of the first things I disable. I clicked do not ask again when that message 1st popped up on my home PC. How do I re-enable it or get to it? Do I need ActiveSync (or similar) installed on my MBP?

Thanks again!!

If you are trying to flash the phone, Parallels will not work. There are some USB issues that don't allow it to function. I ended up installing bootcamp, with a fresh XP install for this exact reason, and then I couldn't get that to work either because the unlocker somehow came to the conclusion that I had used it before, even though I hadn't (it also gave me that message on my girlfriend's PC, so go figure)... So all I can say is good luck...

You will need activesync installed (on the PC side) for this to (possibly) work. I suggest you read all of the unlocker instructions in the sticky in the CDMA upgrades section before you proceed.

To do this go to the following:

Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC

Under here lies the settings for what you asked for. Simply check the box at the bottom. The box read "Ask me first about USB connection type when I connect the device to the PC"

I'm not sure if the settings are the same across the board (6.1, 6.5, Sense 2.1/2.5) but it should be similar
