TP2 GPS Accuracy?
The GPS on my TP2 is very laggy/inaccurate compared to my old TP1. Anyone else have this problem? For instance, if I use Goog Maps, it doesn't track my movement and exact location nearly as accurately as it did on the TP1.
Outside of the city, it really isn't a problem, but in the city, it's too slow to keep up with the side streets. |

I don't believe there is any fix for it. I'm sure someone will immediately post "I have no lag in MY TP2". Don't believe it, it is B.S. ~John |

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
With TomTom software, it REALLY SUCKS.........
For example, I PASSED Moorpark Blvd, 2 blocks later, it tells me to make a RIGHT on Moorpark Blvd...I Noticed that I passed it already, made a u-turn, then a LEFT on Moorpark Blvd.... By the time I was on Moorpark Blvd, it told me to make a U-Turn on what ever the street was that I turned around on, directed me back towards Moorpark Blvd and then onto Moorpark Blvd, more than sixty seconds from the time I was already ON Moorpark Blvd.\ I initatlly thought it would be a good backup to my REAL TomTom, however I was clearly wrong. As a backup, i am better off using google maps and just reading the directions! |

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
what version is your tomtom cab? i can only get v7.45 to work on mines.
|
Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
My Tom Tom version is 7.916. I'm using a modded cab without the bluetooth stuff in it which doesn't screw with the OS.
It's necessary for me to use a go between program GpsGate 2.6 to work with the satellites / internal GPS in the TP2. I configure Tom Tom to work with GpsGate for it's coordinates. This works fabulously and my maps show about 1/2 second to 1 second behind where I'm actually at on the map. PM me if you have any questions or need help trying this method. |

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
Using Google Maps, when I click on my location, it says "within 1200 meters." My friend's TP1 says, "within 12 meters." Using the TP2 while walking the city (or almost anywhere walking) is completely useless. This is a horrible downgrade from the TP1.

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
Unless I'm missing something, I'm just hitting the "Use GPS" function like I did when I also had the TP1. I'm doing it now and it says "within 1900 meters." I also already set the Quick GPS and the update is current.

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
In Gmaps, are you seeing the number of satellites locked on in the upper right corner of the screen? Also, which version of Gmaps do you have installed? Here, with v4, GPS locks on 6 to 12 sat's in 5 to 10 seconds, and pins location down to 10 - 20 meters. it sounds like the built-in GPS chip is not working properly with Gmaps for some reason. Does Bing or any other GPS software also show your location off by 1000+ meters? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Gmaps?

I tried this cab, but cannot install it. It just freezes on installation, and the progress bar never even starts to fill. Tried several downloads, but no luck. Any ideas??? Thanks |

Accuracy for me is pretty impeccable in googlemaps as well, If I'm walking down the street and take a few steps in a different direction, it'll reflect within a second or two. Even with the TP it took several seconds before I can figure out if i'm walking the right way. |
Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
NOTE: sound like some people are having issues getting locks, lear to use QuickGPS to fix that and turn off aGPS so it's not as easy for your network to spy on you ;)
For people who are locked with multiple satellites and having tracking issues the following info may or may not help. Proceed with caution. I'm using garmin xt with the windows mobile intermediate gps driver (standard option nothing special) and it tracks as well as it did on my TP1 and better than on my HTC Touch. I run both Garmin XT and my Garmin c340/50 at the same time they seem to be on par with each other. For locks I use QuickGPS, turn off aGPS and I get locks in 2-3 seconds. Usually I get 9 satalites by the time Google Maps pulls up the map and thats fast I have 1 megabits download on my EVDO with USCC in Madison, Wisconsin regardless of if I have 1 or 5 bars. Hope this helps...!?? *shrugs* update your radio...? mine is not radio unlocked but I upgraded to the radio I am posting. I dont take responsibility if you brick your phone could not load exe's as attachments so I uploaded them. the links should not go down sorry I could not give hotlink 2.23.00WU -- First file is actually a WV radio not world unlocked (was mislabeled when I found it) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SPURTIJD USC_2.18WV -- Stock USCC Radio I used this to get my phone back out of olipro's bootloader when I tried flashing a WU radio to a sim but not security unlocked phone. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DD7GIDY9 try it but if you break your phone I told you not to cry. If you don't have money to replace it don't mess with it. I wont be responsible for your mistakes  BTW I have have had an HTC Touch, Two HTC Touch PROs & My HTC Touch PRO 2 |
Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
I did download and install your version of tom tom , its asking for map activation code? can you please provide that too.

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
Google Maps works fine for me. I can grab 4+ satellites in about 1-2 min and its pretty decent in terms of updating.
The only issue I have is when I run GarmentXt which can take a very long time to get a signal. But I found a work around by running google maps, finding my location, then starting garmen Xt, and then closing google maps. Garmen Xt picks up all the signals Google Maps has located. Works great when Garmen XT is being stubborn. |

Check out link in my signature and see if that helps. GoogleMaps 4.0 and iGuidance both work fine 1-2 second lag (which some folks complain about). But 1-2 second works fine for me. Anything beyond that you have a problem (often operator error) that can be resolved. TP2 needs nothing special. No special cab or hacks. That applies to stock ROM (on Sprint anyway) and Custom ROMs. Mighty, Energy and Calkulin all worked fine. |

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
I live in Tampa, FL and I don't have any problems with my GPS Sprint navigation. It might lag a little bit but it doesn't get me lost. The only thing I hate about it is that when I try to find the fastest route, it likes to take me through tolls and make me pay more money to FL. haha Does anyone know a GPS program that allows you to avoid TOLLS? that would be GREAT! haha

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
Ok, anyone have any additional Ideas for getting TomTom working on the TP2? I tried the custom version posted in this thread and it didnt work. I have installed Garmin XT and it works just fine, but I am partial to the TomTom software. I have the same problem as most in this thread, the program runs but the maps and directions are about a minute behind my actual location.
UPDATE: I found another poster who used GPSgate to get rid of the lag on his TP2 so I tried it and it is a 95% improvement over what it was previously. It is not %100, but it is now usable. |

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
i love iGuidance. There is 1-2 secs lag but thats probably the case with all GPS including the OEMs. Just lately, I have enabled assisted GPS on my TP2. Have yet to try out what difference it makes to Iguidance GPS.
BTW, I use GPS Gate as well. Also. TP2 is much better in that the GPS lock stays between standby/resume as against Mogul |

haha Does anyone know a GPS program that allows you to avoid TOLLS? that would be GREAT! Use Sunpass, if you don't already have it. it will save you a Time and a little money. |
Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
have you try igo8 i hardly get any lag
|
Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
keeping agps off, using the newer custom roms and using sttra custom TOMTOM 7.916.9192 helped me to eliminate all my gps lag.

Re: TP2 GPS Accuracy?
After having issues with my new to me TP2 (from ebay) and tomtom, I tried all of the registry mods, turning off logging etc.
Only thing that fixed it when I flashed the radio to the latest Sprint ROM. The VZW radio caused the GPS lag |
