International Use and PDANet Tethering

Well in am in Hog Heaven using my TP2 on travel using the Sprint $2.50 a day data. I signed up for 10days for $25. It has worked fine in Germany, Saudia Arabia and Qatar, and I have used Skype Mobile in all those places just fine... call numbers in California for $0.02/min.

But as a glutton for punishment, I have not gotten PDANet to work for tethering. I am using 1.80. Wonder if it is the GSA versus CDMA systems.

PS Wonder if there should be a sticky on international issues... like I had to do a manual set-up in Qatar and got a lot of technical help from Sprint at 1-888-211-4727...#3. There are posts on Mexico and Thailand.

BTW missed calls show up conveniently for a Skype call back.

Good info Jerry, there may not be too many international users here like XDA but I am all for it. I thought about it and definitely think it will be worth to have an international stickie. I use my TP2 100% overseas and would love to have data in one place.

These are the numbers I use:

Inside: 1-888-226-7212

Outside: 011-817-698-4199 #2 billing and #3 tech support- unlisted

The agent I talked to seemed to consider it routine. She said cost was $2.50 a day and I was gone for 10 days... counted them out and said that will be $25.00 charged to my bill.

I actually got a bit worried over here and called them. They said the rate is $59.99/month and that it is prorated per day. So for me if I use 10/30 days it is 1/3 of $60 or $20... less than I expected.

I also learned that if you get a voice mail, they will require you to enter your password for voicemail again (right on the tip of the tongue right). Well, to get to GSM voice mail you can reset your voicemail password at the Sprint web site: I reset mine to the same one as my Sprint verification code. When I get back to the states, have to reset the CDMA one. This one resides on the SIM card.

good info jerryyyyy. and im sure the stickie suggestion will be a hit since it seems like a lot of the members travel out of the country.

Well, have been exploring a bit in Qatar and for the record one of their SIM cards for voice, from qtel their phone company, fits right in and works in the phone. I got a phone for part of my work here.

Also looks pretty straightforward to miss a call coming in on the TP2, it is logged as missed, and then just return it from Skype mobile at $0.02 a minute.
