should I upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5?

Has anyone done it yet?
Is it worth the upgrade, if so what if any are the benefits?

Re: should I upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5?

I'm not sure what its like on the Sprint network, but I upgraded mine the night I got it. I noticed that w/ 6.1 it seemed clunky and not all the apps were there. When 6.5 booted, it was like getting the phone new all over again! It seems a lot more stable and faster, and you're guaranteed to have the latest version of most apps. So, if it is an effortless installation, I don't think you have anything to lose.

What the hack are you waiting for? I am using Calkulins v1.6 WWE with system build 23534. I am using windows mobile interface 6.5.3 and must say this version is completely fingure friendly I can rearange my icons with my fingers. This reminds me of the samsung dare. It is fast more stable, the email download fast, multi-media is better it is lest buggy and the list goes on and on. I believe wolf has this ROM cooked already if you are not used to cooking your own rom.:headbang:

I am on Sprint and I just flashed a custom ROM yesterday! The biggest issue with using a custom ROM on Sprint is that the picture mail doesn't work without some tweaking.

I was tired of waiting 4 Sprints update so I went with a custom 6.5 ROM with Sense 2.5 UI. I noticed with the stock Sprint ROM that the Facebook integration had completely stopped working. That was a big issue for me.

I enjoy the "eye candy" of 6.5! It looks alot better than 6.1 IMO. I also like the weather on the home tab and being able to add favorites "Quick Links" to the home tab as well.

Make sure your phone is unlocked and choose your ROM to fit your needs. (I chose SsS R7 Rom). Don't be afraid of the CDMA Upgrades section, I know I was. If you need help or simple guidance inbox me. I will help you out as much as I can.

Hmmm, all I had to do was install the Arcsoft MMS cab and I was sending pics & vids no problem...

I think you should, except I am not positive about the tethering with the newest radios with the newest stock roms out? at the time I think there was something that dinged the tethering on your bills. that was a while back and is why I was on here TODAY, searching to see if I can setup tethering without getting billed to death now. It might been leaked roms only. so search carefully.

1 thing I hate (but you can get used to it/work around it):

1> Contacts list, it is changed, the default is now the version built into newer touch flo (refered to as Sense UI2.0 I think). So again you can get around this by mapping the button just above the phone key, to point to the old contacts version...

I have 200+ contacts, all grouped by "company" with Outlook syncing so same contacts I use for "work". now of cours "company" is just the heading, I put friends in the friends company, work in the work company, support in support company, Im in IT and I am the supervisor... so when I get called and I'm not at the desk or near one, I have to call someone else, it is nice to have people sorted by company then last names...

so maybe now you see what I liked about the old address book, most apparently dont care, I think they must only have about 4 to 40 friends LOL... (j/k)

2> New settings, or at least ways to get to many of them, BTW all this is FINE still easy to use, and you just got to get used to it, but for EXAMPLE, bluetooth has more screens when using and enabling and disabling is a couple more steps now (stock) I think I saw a app that you can run, I havent yet because it is no big deal. Same with turning on or off Wifi... there are more settings in many that needed more changable settings to so the bonus is worth learning the diffs...

Some people dont like change, sometimes "people" referes to me some times it dont, just sayin.

PS
Im on verizon, sprint should be similiar.

PS when I read posts on here FREEZA usually has same opinion, except for this time :evil4:

nice thing is I think you can go back if you dont like it... I can, I have found both roms that shipped for VZW, I didnt look for Sprinty's...

I have the new 6.5 Verizon and tether all the time and have never had a prob with my bill.

On that note. I would stay with 6.1
I came online to find it and put 6.1 back in.
6.5 is buggy to hell. I have run it for over 2 weeks and love all the new
bells and whistles but not worth the bugs. I hate hate HATE the 6.5 bugs
I will kick back and see if they fix it first. Verizon took the option off there site where you could order the TP2 w/6.5 pre-installed. That in its self should
make you think.

Most likely you will. But you can add it as a quick link on the home tab. I don't miss it at all. I thought I would but with sooo many new features you won't even notice they are not there!

Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade!!!

Please do it immediately!!!! :headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang: :headbang:

personally i think 6.5 is a bajillion times better than 6.1 (yes i'm aware that isn't a real number)

if you back up your contacts and everything else you want you can try it out an switch back whenever u want.

http://pocketnow.com/software-1/htc-...rade-available Follow that, WM 6.5 over 6.1 is amazing. SO much faster and my battery life is 2X better. Appearance and everything is better, no complaints.

Re: should I upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5?

I find 6.1 to be more responsive than 6.5. Really not that much big of a difference between the two; WinMo 6.5 is still the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig.

ToddSmith 02-20-2010 05:23 AM

Re: should I upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5?

Take a look at the Neodium v6+ ROM, it's custom designed for Sprint users. True, you don't get the Sprint Navigation or Sprint TV tabs, but they're easy enough to re-install via CAB files. WinMo 6.1 is bad enough, but what Sprint did to it borders on criminal. All that yellow is just hideous. I've played around with several 6.5 ROMs, and Neodium is easily my favorite, but everyone's opinion is different. Give it a shot, and worst case scenario, if you don't like it, just flash back to the stock ROM. Before flashing, be sure to run a backup utility like PIM Backup or one of the other backup programs out there, to backup stuff like your text msgs and call history, that ActiveSync or WMDC won't backup.

Have fun! :headbang:

Re: should I upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5?

I unlocked and ran 6.5/6.5.x on my touch pro, but the stock 6.1 rom on the tp2 has been very stable for me. I installed mobile shell with the mobile sense theme and haven't looked back since...
