stick with stock plus mobile shell. 6.5 is slow on the tp2. you give up speed for a little bit of functionality.

I say stock rom all the way. if you want a lot more functionality, use mobile shell. I've used a bunch of roms, and 6.1 + 2.5 was the fastest and most functional, but buggy.

Take it from me, I've wasted too much time on this crap. I'm big on functionality rather than looks.

I'm an actual business user who relys on my phone to have good life and quick access. Skip the roms in favor of something that just works and can suit your exact needs... mobile shell.

Re: Custom ROM's

i have mobile shell, uninstalled it after it froze and wouldn't reopen after soft reset.
wasn't sure that all my settings would be saved if i reloaded it.
mostly prefer tf3d, though it seems to use just as much memory as mobile shell.
only big thing i have done with my phone is the cleaunup by gt4l. installed a few cabs for transparent curtains, clock, etc, and have the battery and memory meter that runs across the top.
gonna try chris's sprint lover's 6.5 ROM i think. seems very stable and sprint orientated.

I installed ms on a clean hard reset system. works grat but gt4l tweaks screw up the 3d mail, and uninstall ruins hardware keys. 6.5 roms are eye candy junk.

so is mobile shell. but it is still popular. 3d mail looks pretty, but isn't as functional to me. same thing with the texts.

this rom is showing a lot of free memory on startup. might be one to look at.

spb and manila arent even comparable. SPB is pretty much fully customizable. The only version close is manila 2.5, which is buggy or super slow, depending on whether you run wm 6.1 or 6.5.

with blackout rom for instance, you only use 45% ram with 6.1/2.5 combo. That's efficient as it gets, but still buggy. Mobile shell, I can get everything on my home screen. Appointments, calendar, missed calls, mail, and sms. Everything is just one click away, no need to scroll here or scroll there. Contacts with one button, camera one button, internet one button.

i don't disagree, but i like manila's calender better, contact card gives more options, camera is one home screen. all programs are just a button press away.
i liked it, and probably wouldn't have switched, but the dang thing broke on me. so i'm using manila for now.

Re: Custom ROM's

whatever suits you I guess. I actually went the MS route first, then tried Mighty, Silence, Caulkulin, SSS, blackout, Juicy, and probably a few more but dont recall. I havent used titanium but from the looks of it, I'll probably pass. I think I'm on week 2 of MS since going back to it, and it's been 1 week without a soft reset. I'm kinda pissed that 3d mail isnt working, since it was more functional than stock email. Love the one click wifi button, the agenda calendar, and vostrodamas' icons. I can fit 6 icons on one line, but a bit too busy.

I rarely deviate from my main screen, since everything is there. 1 click album, 1 click camera, 1 click internet, 1 click calendar, and the missed calls, sms, email are a nice touch. I really do love manila's calendar look, stock calendar is every bit as functional, and it's only 1 click for me. Sure, I can get max manilla, but 2.5 was buggy enough for me.

I dont recall the manila contact card, but I think spb's contact card to be fine. The facebook stuff they have is also a really nice touch. I really like the google widget as well.

The program does seem to get buggy when you have too many apps installed. I sync my contacts with outlook, so it's not too big of a deal to hard reset. Heck, I'm thinking about it over the weekend. The gt4l tweak really screwed up my spb settings. I might reinstall spb before I take those extreme measures though.

Re: Custom ROM's

ok, went back to mobile shell. tf3d was using too much memory and the phone was starting to lag. was at 60-65% memory usage even after running oxios.
tried to install mobile shell 3.5.3, but when i would try to use the facebook app, it kept freezing on me. so i uninstalled that, and went back to 3.5.0. spent the last 2 nights at work resetting it up. just backed up everything with sprite backup. gonna stick with this set up for now. memory usage at 48-49% with about 100k of free ram. if it freezes this time i will just run the backup utility.
i haven't had any problems with mobile shell and gt4l's cleanup cab. pretty sure he uses mobile shell too, so i don't know why you would. 3d email works for me. you might want to revert to a previous version of mobile shell. from their message boards 3.5.3 and 3.5.2 have problems with too much info coming through active sync (among other issues).
thanks for the input too. decided a custom rom just wasn't worth it right now. my phone is zipping along and i don't have to worry about this not working or that not working.

So how do you decide on which car to buy? You take it for a test drive, right?

It's the same thing with the ROMs. The only way to know which one YOU will like is to flash them all and take them for a test drive. Only then will you know which one is best for you :thumbleft:

Sometimes thats easier said that done. Theres tons of roms to choose from. It always helps some people to narrow it down to a few.

definitely agree with that. i don't have the 1-2 hours a flash to see if I like a ROM. if someone perfects a custom ROM (I think Sprint Lover's ROM might be the closest, but free memory is still only 35%), then maybe I would try it, but i don't want to be fighting with the phone all the time.
