Fast internet speed tweaks
 

What are the best registry tweaks to get the fastest consistent internet speeds? I'm currently getting between 800-850kbps on PIE, but other users on this forum seem to be able to get above 1000kbps consistently somehow.

My current settings are as follows:

1)File System Cache: 2048K
2)Font Cache Size: 32768KB
3)TCP Window: 2543520
4)Max TCP Connect Retransmissions: 10 attempts
5)Max TCP Data Retransmissions: 10 attempts

I've also adjusted the following for better latency (doesn't affect raw speed):
1)HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms and changed the TimerWheelSize to Value of 5
2)dns settings (through Settings/Connections): 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2

Can others share their settings/tweaks and post their PIE results?
There must be some optimal settings for our phones!

I use www.mobilespeedtest.com to test.

Well I was just coming to chime in but someone already beat me to the punch. I manually go into the registry and add the dword MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server and the number 32 as the second line. I personally feel a difference. Im not much on the logics of it but as far as personal use I do feel the internet loading a litter faster. I also increased some other settings already mentioned in this thread like the retry connect numbers I had them on 10 like someone said earlier but to be honest it seems to load faster on default. Like I said Im not much on logic and numbers but it just seems faster on default as far as pages loading when I am actually using it. I too have struggled to increase or have to settle for the internet speed so if anyone does know of anything we all dont please feel free to chime in. Who knows u actually might get paid for ur thoughts so put ur 2 cents in. Oh and thanks for the cab guy. Now I dont have to manually do it everytime after a hard reset or ROM upgrade. Hopefully it doesnt mess with anything else other than those registries. Unless it somehow gives super internet speed then Ill be between a rock and a hard place. "shrugs" Oh well this phone is still the sh*t regardless.

You might try using opendns instead of those qwest dns servers... might not make your throughput faster but you will get a little bit faster dns resolution and also you can do dns filtering if you update your mobiles IP with the opendns console when it gets changed out/if it does. I use opendns to filter out ads/malware on my network, works great! Hope this helps.

3, 4 and 5 are in HKLM\Comm\TCPIP\Parms.

I used Memmaid to change 1 and 2...

sorry to hi-jack thread but i tried going to the website for the speed test and its giving me a dns error screen. tried typing it in, searching and even clicking on the link above...but PIE no worky for me to that site. it works for opera though. any ideas guys? . pic below.

on to the topic at hand...installed the booster cab. tested my speed both without and with the booster installed. there was a difference in the speed of about 60-70kbps more. but like OP said...give me more speed! isnt there some other nitro cab for maximum speed boost?

thanks for confirming that it was the website. was trying for the better part of the evening last night and finally gave up. but good news though...that cab you posted did wonders. downloaded a 102MB file last night...and it took around 15 minutes. without the cab, it took a minimum of at least 30 mins. downloaded a few 100MB files last night and was done before the hour was done. so at least the cab worked for me.

Can anyone tell me how to change the DNS settings in my htc touch pro2. I go to 2)
"Settings/Connections" but I don't see anything that says dns.
dns settings (through Settings/Connections): 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2

look at my SIG, that is the spead i get with Skyfire Web Browser, all other browser have nothing but bloat so your 3g speed will suffer. i tried pie, ie, opera and get CRAP 3g speeds, i just do simple web searches and skyfire is FAST!!! but if you want the FULL web EXP then you are going to have to use the affor mentioned browsers and get crap 3g speed.

using ie with 2mb test puts me at 819kbps

ME, I have Mighty Rom newest with Cricket service & html Data plan, I started the test at mobilespeedtest.com with 100k it finish 258kbps the I did 1mb it finish at 759kbps after installed the CAB my increase was slight at 100k it was 343kbps, at 1mb it was 712kbps all tested with Opera i wish i could get 1800kbps any Ideas????

I just installed cab and ran speed test. Mine is a whole 17.079kbps using Opera.

Lol, look at this guy. Getting 6mbit speeds on a device that is physically incapable of doing half of that. Its magic I tell ya.

You do understand that the skyfire servers are getting that speed right? Its no different than if I remote desktop connected to my Fios connected computer at home and did a speed test. Look, my phone just did 20Mbit down/5Mbit up.

I just ran the 5MB test while connected via my home WiFi and it hit 3704kbps - now I know that's over wifi rather than EVDO, but it brings up a question I've had for a while. What is the MAX speed the phone is even capable of processing over 3G and over WiFi?

I should mention that I killed the wifi and reran the 5MB test. I got a result of 1181kbps and am usin the IE browser for this.

Will the NoPush Internet Tweak and that Tweak interfere with each other?

Edit: I'm guessing it will, since I just got 110kb/s on the 100kb speed test. >_<

Removing the NoPush boosted me to 222.222 kb/s on the 100kb test and 286.533 on the 1mb

All of this in the standard Opera it comes with.

IE gives me 267.559 for the 100kb.
And 863.931 on the 1mb, that's more like it. :D

Are those speeds normal or do I just have crap 3g connection?

Using Skyfire with NoPushInternet installed and none of the tweaks in this thread I got 677kbps on AT$T's crap 3G at 100k. At 500k I got 1266kbps.

Yeah, I get up to 1700kbps with skyfire and actually get 450kbps over wifi:scratch:. so i am confused. skyfire is awesome IMO. WHAT IS THE FASTEST SPEED YOU CAN GET OVER WIFI?????? AND WHAT ARE YOU USING TO GET?

Blah, I don't like Skyfire. :( Though I just got 1739.13 kb/s on the 100k, 1246 on the 500k, and it dropped to 375.411 on the 1mb, that's weird. >_> Grr.

over wifi how? through 3G to Wifi, or real Wifi to your device? i connected to my buddys comcast and did mobilespeedtest and hit almost 11,000kps.. thats pretty quick.. i know att home service tries to boast 54mb, thatd be 54,000.. i dont know anyone with att home service to try theirs out tho..

I guess it depends on your internet service. On Comcast cable I just did 6065 down/856 up over wifi.

I'm seeing the same thing. Not much of a boost on the 100k test but HUGE changes on the 2mb test. I'm guessing that there just isn't enough time to establish more solid connections before the 100k is through.

I'm repeating my XDA post for here...

I'm not a windows mobile guru like you guys, and I can't really tell all the time from the posts who is really the guru to listen to or not. I have a WM5 Sprint PPC-6700. However, imaginary or not, using different methods of transferring data I have seen an improvement after putting in the Hypnotic2010 Internet Tweak HKCU+HKLM.cab.

I'm sure you'll "dis" my method, but here it is anyway: I used GETYTV to pull the same video repeatedly and saw (or maybe just dreamed) 25-50% improvement from before to after the install. I would like to know what "tweaks" the cab actually did - I found the ones supposedly not valid in my WM5 set as the posts say. One reason to know the actual changes is GETYTV stopped displaying the little youtube pictures associated with the file - reminds me of a memory error with iexplorer I've seen on XP with lots of picture icons getting downloaded.

Can someone bust open the CAB and let know what was actually changed? Thanks and glad you guys are beating it up for WM novices like me - I'm just an old VMS bit setter. Ben
