Re: Trip to Mexico (Sprint). $0.002/KB. Too much?
When I mentioned $8 kind of range, that is without any special plan. Just the $0.002 charges. Sprint's Mexico rate is pretty reasonable. I think the data rate on the ship's Marine Roaming is 10X as much.

Re: Trip to Mexico (Sprint). $0.002/KB. Too much?
note: IDK if you guys know, but "b" and "B" makes a world of a difference. a "kB" is not the same as a "kb". the capital "B" stands for "byte", while the lower case "b" stands for "bit". There are 8 bits in a byte. Might not matter here, but it would be worth finding out if it is kbytes and not kbits. Or your projected bill of $10 will turn into $80.

Someone correct me if they know otherwise, but I don't believe the Sprint international data plan covers data use WHILE AT SEA, that is, while connecting via the ship's cell tower. I think this plan only applies when you connect to a land-based tower, i.e. when you're off the ship or at least in port with the ship's tower turned off. While at sea you are captive to the ship's cell tower, and I don't think you have any cellular data options other than the standard Sprint cruise ship rates. I'm not 100% sure of this, but I'm 99% sure. Anyway, if you are thinking you can use Sprint's unlimited international data add-on to connect while at sea I would get very official confirmation of this in writing, or you could be in for an enormous unwelcome charge. |
