All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
Well, I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone, or if anyone's experienced anything similar to this, but hopefully someone can help.
[ What Happened ] I was downloading some updates today to Windows7 on a laptop I bought just the other day. I was thethering to it using HTC Wifi Router. After all updates downloaded and installed, I shut it down. Now I can't tether to my laptop, my internet speed on my phone is terrible, and I get like, low roaming low service 1x speeds to my PC, even when its in EV. Pages also randomly will stop loading, requiring multiple refreshes. [ The Details ] After I installed the updates and shutdown my laptop I quickly exited HTC Wifi Router, not allowing it to disconnect normally. As I recall, if you did this with WMWiFi Router, it also wouldn't let you tether via usb or wifi until you ran the crash cleanup. I think I may be experiencing something similar to this, but I can't explain why it's affecting my laptop. I've already system restored to before the updates, so those can't be the problem. The strange this is, when I tether to it with the usb, it eventually connects and tells me I have internet, but nothing loads. I've tried connecting/disconnecting a hundred times, and it keeps telling me it's connected, but everything continues to refuse to load. Seeing as I just got my TP2 a few weeks ago, I just backed up what few programs were installed+contacts and I hard reset. Now the internet on the phone is going at a slower than dial up speed. I have good service and EV, so I'm not sure what's going on... Any advice? |
Re: All Around Internet Problem
no idea here, just throwing out ideas... have you run the update profile and prl update recently?
|
Re: All Around Internet Problem
Yes, both. Neither successfully updated.
|
Re: All Around Internet Problem
are you on a stock rom or custom?
|
Re: All Around Internet Problem
Stock. I have no idea what's happening here.
Unfortunately there is no way for me to find out if it's the laptop, the phone or both, seeing as there is no other wifi or internet connections available at the moment. |
Re: All Around Internet Problem
Here's an interesting update.
Now when I connect to my computer and tether via usb/internet sharing, it connects (internet also, according to the status) but no web pages load. I can only successfully tether with WMWiFi Router, either usb or wifi. What is going on here? |
Re: All Around Internet Problem
I am having the same problem on windows 7 starter, I was tethering find this morning came back from class and now nothing. I have tried to fix it for hours now I have reinstalled drivers relashed my phone done a full system recovery nothing is working and it is driving me insane. It must be either a Sprint issue, or a windows 7 update issue.

Re: All Around Internet Problem
Ok just tried tethering on my XP machine and the I get the same problem. The only website that will load is google I can bring up search results and everything but nothing else. So It is not a Windows issue, I have also tried Juicy's rom, Mighty, and SsS's all yielding the same results so it is not a rom issue. I'm guessing this must be something to do with Sprint? However I can also tether with WmWifiRouter. Really weird problem to have. When I uninstalled and reinstalled the device driver for the Windows internet adapter I did get to tether for a few mins but then I was right back to the same problem I am guessing this was just a coincidence because every 20 tries or so I get like 3 mins of tethering. Anyone have anymore info on this?

Same thing has been happening to me all day. I first noticed it this morning on my phone with super slow speed but with evdo connection. I hooked it up to the laptop via wifirouter and the same thing. I'm assuming its a sprint thing right now. Are any of the other people expriencing this located in NH also? |
Re: All Around Internet Problem
This is almost identical to the problem I am having, and I've tried everything and every trick I know. Perhaps we messed something up under the sprint internet connections? Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge can point us in the right direction.

I'm in MA, maybe it's a general NE thing going on?

Re: All Around Internet Problem
I'm in VA and so far I'm still having the same problems today, I checked to see if sprint was having outages or workorders and they don't list anything in my area.

Re: All Around Internet Problem
Just got off the phone with Sprint. There's nothing going on in my area as well. The lady on tech didn't really try to offer me any advice other than taking it to a store to get it exchanged. Seeing as this is only a week old, and brand new, I'm not really looking forward to getting a refurb.
Perhaps we screwed something up in the TCP/IP settings? Heartisall, were you tethering while/before you had this issue? Maybe something while tethering screwed this up.. Anyone else, feel free to chime in with some advice. |
Re: All Around Internet Problem
I am experiencing this issue as well. I am running the Silence rom and tether the device to an xp machine. Yesterday in the afternoon my internet connection started to go out on me. I gave it a day and then this morning attempted again. Nothing worked and I ended up doing a hard reset. Once it came back, I can occasionally pull up a google page, and search results come up, but once I click on a link it does not connect. I'm in the Northern Va area.

Re: All Around Internet Problem
I lost all ability to access the internet via my Sprint TP2 (stock ROM) at around 10:30 eastern time this morning. Phone is working, calls are being received, texts are working, and PDANet allows a connnectionn but no data makes it through.
I also cannot access my email via my phone; has anyone had that issue as well? Mind you, I made zero changes to my phone today, or to any software, and had no internet issues before this outage seems to have come into play. I would really like to avoid a hard reset, and hope that this resolves itself over the course of the afternoon. Best, Ito |

Had the same thing happen to me this morning as well. As of now (1:30 PM EST) I have data coming through, but it's still the slowest I've ever seen it :cussing:. In case anyone is keeping data points, I'm in Wilmington DE. |
Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
Well, it seems that I am now not alone in this ongoing problem...So it definitely sounds like something on the Sprint end.
I recall reading a few articles a few months back saying that Sprint was going to kill all tethering done without a plan. Of course we all have the work around, but perhaps they're on to it..? Could possibly also explain the slow data if they're trying to do something on their systems. |

Besides which, I have ZERO internet access on my phone, so it doesn't seem to be a tethering issue, but rather (for me, in any event) an internet issue - unless it's my phone itself, but that doesn't seem to be the issue given what's being said in this thread. I hope this is resolved soon; once I leave my office I'll be seriously out of touch. Oh, my goodness, the horror! :-({|=:joker: Best, Ito |

Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
I am still getting internet on my phone, however its much slower than it used to be. I am assuming sprint must be doing something to there network. Hopefully this is not to stop tethering entirely although the poster above said he actually has a tethering plan so if he can't get it either it must be an all around Network error. I did notice that when my phone was listed as connected it did not renew the DNS in IPconfig. I flushed the DNS hoping it would force it to renew however still no luck.

I was wondering if this was a DNS issue as well, and for kicks I put in google's public DNS (I didn't even know they offered it! Google really is taking over the world) and as of right now I am tethered and able to open multiple pages without any issues. Will keep using and see if anything changes. hmmm I can't post a link due to post count. copy paste should work: code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html |

Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
I will say this about my attempts thus far to fix this issue with Sprint's assistance: I am sadly reminded of how intensely challenging it often is to deal with Sprint's customer service. The inconsistency of information provided by one rep to the next is (and yet isn't) surprising. And their inability to diagnose the problem is truly frustrating.
What a pain. Prediction: They will eventually need to change my vision user name in order to reset the entire data connection. |
Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
Wow. This DOES work. It's a little slower than my normal tether speed, and hangs a bit, but it's much more stable. I hope this continues to work, and THANK YOU for finding and sharing this.

Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
This is also confirmed working on my laptop with Windows7. It took a few moments for it to connect to the internet, but it's been stable in connection

Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
Nice to hear it works for you too, hopefully for others as well... I guess Sprint was/is doing something to their network... only drawback with this solution is that there is no way to really know when the Sprint network will be back to normal..
|
This is not just Sprint
I have a Verizon TP2 and i am seeing the same issues. I normally got a 1.0-1.5 MB connection. As of lately i have been seeing 100-300KB/s. This would not be a issue if it wasn't my main internet. I think it says it is in the EVDO network, but it isn't. This page too about 45 seconds to load. 43 more than normal.
EDIT: Forgot to say it will connect to the "fast" network, but it doesn't last long. I have to keep the connection alive the whole time. |

Did you try editing DNS on your network connection with google's public DNS? |
Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
FWIW, I did a had reset on my Sprint stock rom TP2 last night and it fixed the issue immediately.
It was the one solution I didn't want to use given the annoyance of resetting everything on my phone. But given that Sprint had ZERO explanation for what this happened, it seemed to ultimately be the only solution. And so I am back on the mobile air. Breathe. Breathe in the air. Don't be afraid to care. Best, Ito |
Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
Also FWIW, I tethered to my workstation mid-afternoon without using Google's Public DNS and internet is working fine. Seems like the issue may have gone away?

Changed it back, and everything is working fine here as well..What a strange problem.
Thanks for the heads up |
Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
Same thing happening here on my XP Pro machine.. and I know it was working fine 3 weeks ago.. Welcome to Sprint!

Re: All Around Internet Problem: Are You Experiencing This?
Have you been able to change the DNS settings as described earlier in the thread?
