I have had my TP2 for about 2 months now and i find myself wanting a different phone almost daily.

The phone looks sexy and feels great. My main complaint is the performance. This phone has a lag problem. Maybe you guys can tell me what i am doing wrong.

I loaded MightyROM and at first it made the phone pretty snappy, but after about a week of usage the OS is just as laggy as it was before.

I have to do a soft reboot on the phone almost daily.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

The phone just does not feel fast as it should. Every time i push a button there is a very notiiceable delay. This wasnt the case on my Android G1.

just like windows on a desktop every program stores stuff in your ram and run background resources which is why you are getting this lag i know its horribly annoying but the best thing you can do is go into hd tweaks enable some cache tweaks and run a ram cleaner every couple of hours. also you could try some different roms my experience with mighty's roms weren't so great but i used a really new build i found that silence roms or mr x and my favorite NRG's roms are really fast and reliable.

The question is what phone did you come from? The TP2 is a computer. You have to treat it like such. Needs a reboot to refresh the memory, clear the cache, etc... It's not an ordinary phone.

jbass I know exactly how you feel and have felt that way for probably years. One thing that recently helped an unbelievable amount is chefs that have decided to put Manilla 2.5 (Sense) on Winmo 6.1 on the TP2. Here is the Rom I use:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=105295
when I first loaded it up I was shocked by the snappiness. I will not go back to Winmo 6.5 now. For my 'Rom switching fix' I may only jump around 6.1 Roms with the latest Manilla :0) check it out.

I agree 100% this is the longest I've ever run stock since I got the Mogul.

I ran the stock ROM for most of the time ive had the phone. I installed MightyROM in hopes of speeding things up. Like I said, it worked for about a week.

Being a newbie to Windows Mobile, I stuck to stock rom (at least for now). Any suggestions or a short list of applications that are must have to make sure it runs smoother? Also as far as CleanRam, which setting is the best, 1,2 or 3? Which custom clock do you guys suggest? and what is bg? Thanks in advance.

the fact you need RAM tweaks and cache cleaners is enough of an indictement.

The TP2 is one of the best of a horrible kind of phone, period. You can put all the lipstick on the pig you like.

I go days between reboots. The trick is just like a computer don't go installing a bunch of crap on it all the times and it won't mess up.

You can install a bunch of stuff while you are trialing software but when you find that set of software you want to use on a daily basis, I would suggest doing a hard reset and only installing the software you know works and doesnt give any problems.

When all else fails - do the flash dance.

cleanram and hdtweak seem to have helped. I also installed opera 10 which sped up browsing significantly.

There is still some lag in some areas. One of which is the screen lock. When i push the lock button it just sits there thinking for about a second before it does anything

well, i am all about performance...and looks too. i am running 6.5 that i cooked from ssk 3.1. i removed the htc phone canvas and ran the no push internet and resource proxy cabs. i also ditched manila once i found an app on winmo marketplace call "home screen customizer" or something like that. it allows you to run titanium and move panels around, delete them and add new ones such as an apps panel and weather panel. after doin all that my tp2 is very snappy, boots at 120mb and rarely drops below 100mb after a weeks use (however i am a lite user, mainly games and some news/streaming apps).

i created a nice looking windows dialer skin, and found a nice taskbar here at ppcgeeks. after doing all this i am very happy with my tp2 now. it looks great and performs great, and once i cook with the ssk 3.3 when its out i am sure it will be even faster

here's some screens:

Well I gave the TP2 a fair shot. Even with all the tweaks it was slow as mud. I just bought a Droid Incredible and it was the best decision I ever made.

The only redeeming quality of the TP2 was the keyboard. Live and learn I guess.

& the fact that it has a TV out & runs both Sirius & SlingBox Mobile (the Incredible won't do any of that unfortunately or I would own one myself)

Re: Help me like the TP2

Any Windows Mobile Phone is going to be what you make of it. its just like windows on your PC, don't install a ton of bloat ware and use the K.I.S.S. method and it will run like a champ.

Install every Tom, Richard (would not let me use the other name) and Harry piece of software and its going to run like Crap.

Ya, you are going to install software but make sure what you have you do use (don't install software that you only use every 3 months just carry the cab on your Memory card). I remember a few months back this guy had like 180 programs installed and wandered why His phone would not run right.

Remember this is WINDOWS, it gives us the ability to do just about what ever we want with our phone but that does not mean that we have to Tweak every little aspect of it. sometimes just sticking with simple makes things go along ways.

Once I get everything on my phone the way that I like it I can go weeks without a softreset because I take the time to make sure everything works right and works together right. Ya it make take a few weeks to get everything just right but by the time thats Done I am good for Months of a Problem Free phone.

wow, you mean a phone with twice the processor and twice the memory runs faster???

hmm.. why is it that most of the users here who hate there tp2 have a low post count and/or low rep?
The phone will act the way you make it go install a bunch of none sense and you will slow down any phone.I have been running stock since release have no freeze ups nothing bad.Oh and i recently stopped flashing on this tp2 3/19 but ive been flashing since my tp1 and never had bad problems either

Re: Help me like the TP2

If your not fully committed to your Touch Pro 2, sell it and get something you like. You can't really half-@$$ a phone like the TP2. You gotta fully go at it to get the most out of it. I've had mine since the first day it was released on VZW. Eight months later, I'm ready for a new phone and have been ready to switch ever since November or December.

The only thing that keeps me holding on to it is the wonderful work done by chef's of custom ROM's. They are absolutely amazing and by flashing a new rom every month, I get a chance to have a new 'feel' to my phone.

Hope all works out and you end up liking it. If not, why waste your time and money on a $500 phone that your aren't fully committed to?

Just my $0.02

Good luck

Because these are the people that are/were going to be you one day. We expect a phone to do a specific task. We all bought this phone for a different reason, but when it comes right down to it this is a slow performer. I like how you said the phone will act the way you want it to. Well if that is to hold water the Lambo can do 200mph, but in order to reach this speed you must take all the interior out, put on nasty rims, use plastic sides. You are just sticking up for microsoft (although i have no idea why, just take a look at wp7). I have android on my sd card and use it far more than windows mobile.....guess what i got almost every game you can get on that app store and the phone still runs great. Now with that said this is by far the most usable windows phone i have ever had, (although the constent keyboard issue with the tp1 sending over 7 of them in and now my tp2 screen just quit working today.) but we need to improve on what we have. The iphone is lightyears ahead of us, android is already almost bigger than wm and it hasnt been out that long. You are just another fan boy sticking up for his phone (not that it is a bad phone)

Most ppl get winmo for the customization factor. Sure android has all the fun games and so does iphone but when you think about it you cant do whatever you want with those companies. sure android you can get apps or programs that void your user agreement. and have fun sending it back when the phone does break down. because like everything in the world the phone has a self life. there will always be issues with things because companies release sub par items just to get the money then decide on whether to fix them or not based on user complains. When you think about it most android phones and iphone's are entrainment phones. which is the selling point. If you want something that will keep you busy on the train get an android phone or a iphone. because that's what the phone is made to do entertain you. which is fine but, winmo phones are business phone to the core. you say ppl are fan boys for their phones. Its all situational you cant call someone a fan boy because they defend a product they like. ppl who blindly wait in line for 24 hours to get a product ie: iphone just because it has a new feature like copy and paste are fan boys. please dont put me in the same category as them for sticking up for a phone i like and have no issues with.

grab the tp2 and go to a mirror, then proceed to say "I'm big enough, I'm strong enough, and gosh darn it, people like me" do that a few times and strangely you start to like the tp2. proven fact :) jk

i all honesty, i dont find it to be slow unless you try to multitask too many things at once. plus switching to titanium really speeds it up if you need more performance.

I love the fact that windows mobile can do whatever i want. That is why i have it and not a android phone. You gotta admit though that we should have games for the phone. While it's a business for nine outta ten of us don't use it for business purposes. And please list some of the things that this phone does that no other can?? Business type things....besides the usual push e-mail.

Re: Help me like the TP2

you dont need to keep a stock rom on it to run smooth.. Take a look at programs you've installed and just like a computer.. get rid of old work files you dont need to lug around.. delete old txts that arent necessary etc. It's actually a smooth running phone if you dont treat it like a throw away toy. If you are loading roms with a bunch of stuff you'll never use. Read read read and build your own. Some kitchens force you to load useless stuff others dont. Which ever one you choose make sure your loading CDMA stuff or you will brick the heck out of it and cry looking at a 200.00 paper weight.

If you want something for gaming and entertainment then go with an android os phone or iphone. because their geared to do it. and i actually use it for business. and remote desktop. if your gonna say well i want games then the phones not for you. and that cool. everyone has their preferences. i just dont like being called a fan boy cuz i prefer winmo.

Yeah ok sorry about the fanboy thing. It was pretty late here and just so you know i am a boy, and i am a large fan of windows mobile. None of the other operating systems have the ability for remote desktop?? I don't want the damn phone for games either. I have been on the android market and their games are just as bad as ours. Besides we fpsece so i can run all my ps1 games whenever i want. II just want the phone to work when i gotta send a text message. I don't want it to freeze think for a sec then open up a window. Same with my e-mail it's just to slow. WINDOWS MOBILE 6.5 WOULD BE THE BEST PHONE OS OUT THERE IF IT WAS FAST LIKE THE IPHONE. I WOULD LOVE IT AND WANT TO USE IT. IT'S THE FIRST THING ANYONE WHO SEES MY PHONE SAYS "IT'S WAY TO SLOW FOR ME."
