Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
Ok, I have tried and tried many different ROMs that have been created by some amazing chefs here on PPC geeks. But, it seems that I always have issues after I flash to them on my Sprint TP2....does anyone else have continued problems like I do??
I have tried just about everyone in the CDMA ROM section (MM, Energy, Juicy, Caulkins, etc, etc) and continue to have problems with about everyone. I am trying most of the 2.5 builds since I am interested in the "extras" that it provides. It is just frustrating since it appears that as I read through these posts, that many people have flawless and improved capabilities of there phone and LOVE THEM! I, on the other hand, have had continued issues with freezing of the phone, flip clocks that stick, Outlook not syncing, push mail not working, bluetooth not functioning properly and decreased speed of the phone. Is it just my phone or do others have the same issues when the flash?? I know, I know...wait for the official Sprint release of 6.5....I am just anxious and wanted to try some of these amazing cooked roms that seem to work for everyone else. Thanks for letting me vent...... :geek: I am interested it hearing others experiences......anyone else????? |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
it just might be programs or tweaks you are installing
|
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
Are you doing a hard reset after installing the custom ROM? Some chefs recommend flashing first to stock ROM before flashing to a custom ROM.
I've been using MightyRom 01132010 for 2 weeks with no issues at all. |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
well depends on wat rom ur using... each rom has different version and not all r stable... lets say the nrgz rom 21889 is a lil bit more buggy then the 23518 that im using! so try different build on the same rom and see which one fits u better!
i know the phase is a lil complicated to figure out but it just u have to try out different build of the same rom (take it from me wit experience on that one ;)! lol ) |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
I had problems with heavily loaded roms.
I add quite a bit of stuff so I know that doesn't help, but I went to a much simpler cleaner 6.5 rom with 2.5 style interface and I love it, no issues for the 2 days running it so far. Maybe give Neodium a try. |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
Same issues here, my main complaint is the lag when texting. I have not yet tried a rom (stock or otherwise) that doesn't have a huge texting lag when opening a text or creating a new one. It really pisses me off. And then the lag when typing that goes along with it…. But anyway you're not alone. I'm a big winmo fan but the shitty proc in the tp2 just can't handle it.

Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
Most of the custom roms I run work extremely well. 2.5 builds are my favorite but I notice some delay when starting a txt. Also If you are restoring lots of old txt messages, that seems to slow down most of the 6.5 roms I have tried.

It's good to see that othera also do have the same issues. alex jb to answer your question - neodium was the stray that broke the camels back.....I just tried this one last night and it froze my flip clock and pushmail stopped working (and was very slow). I have tried a few other builds of other chefs, but again, just can't seem to get one that doesn't cause sometype of MAJOR functioning problem. Again, thanks for everyone chimming in on this....makes me feel better and that patience will certainly be a virtue.......COME ON SPRINT OFFICIAL RELEASE!!!!!!!! |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
If you just want the official Sprint 6.5 release, you can basically get that in the 6.5 sense 2.1 ROM's that are out there and rock solid, however you mention you want the 2.5 for the extras, but that's not what Sprint is gonna release... 2.5 is buggy, no way around that, 2.1 is solid.

Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
If you think the Sprint official release is going to save you from these headaches than you have clearly mistaken Windows. There will be bugs no matter what you do. Even home desktop computers can be buggy and have problems of their own from time to time. The Touch Pro 2 Windows Mobile is a computer the size of your hand. Do the math.

try this: SMS Lag Fix.cab i think they tracked it down to the counter display that shows how many characters out of 160 are used. once they dropped that out i literally type with no lag at all. |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
I too had issues with custom roms. However i found the app that was causing it all. But since i must have Lotus Notes Traveler installed, I went back to 6.1.
One thing i found though.... if i removed the storage card from the phone... everything worked well. So in my limited testing, it seems that the new 6.5 roms use drivers that don't work nicely with this particular app (Lotus Traveler). At this point i have to wait until IBM/Lotus release a 6.5 compatible app. |

ETphoneHOME, Thank you for the enciteful post. As this is my 3rd windows mobile phone (following the progression of the Touch), I understand what it means to be buggy and not to expect everything to work as we all would like. I am still simply wondering why everyone has had great luck with the cooked ROMs working at least to a point where there is better function/speed while mine only seems to have problems that cause it to be non-functional at all. It just makes me question if it is an issue with my phone?? I can only imagine that the Sprint release will too have bugs, but ones that will be able to work around rather than resort back to the stock ROM as I have found myself having to do each time. |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
Have you flashed to one of the 6.5 2.1 ROM's from a chef who is on Sprint? There's a few out there, you can test it you're having problems on those ROM's without having anything else loaded. If so, maybe it is the phone. Are you having issues on stock? I'm on sprint and have had no issues with MM's official release, Mal's ROM, CFays or JD's, mms works, texting is fine, etc. Can't tell you about 2.5 as I don't want to have to deal with bugs and since they're porting over more and more from 2.5 to 2.1, I'm fine with those. Give 'em a shot and see what happens, kinda trial and error.
Edit: taken from Achilles signature: Loving JD's 6.5 Rom(Sense 2.1) - Everything works off flash, no fixes need for MMS etc!! Very impressed. If you are on sprint and like stock sytled 6.5, this has to be it for you!! Oyeah.. and it's FAST. |

I have tried sprint roms, but haven't tried JD's....will give this one a shot. Thanks fishingmedic! |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
When you flash a custom ROM...you have to expect issues on some level. Its whether or not you're willing to live with them...OR whether or not you're willing to work those issues out (cooking your own.)
No one pointed a gun to your head to flash a custom ROM. Custom ROM's are often labors of love by the chefs in the community...providing us all a glimpse of what the device is TRULY capable of...a trip out to the bleeding edge. Most of the issues can be fixed by a simple regedit, or installing a cabified regentry. I'm curious about the "official" WM6.5 upgrade from Sprint...but I'll always go custom because as good as the stock may be...it is NOT always as good as the device CAN be. |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
Im in the same boat, I cant run any of the cooked Rom's most wont work and the ones that do are so lagy with everything. I had Juicys R6 and it would last a week or 2 and just stop running. with most roms I dont even get to install any other programs. So your not alone!!

Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
me too, the ROMS i have tried are either slow or lock the phone... UGGGG!
|
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
I also have a Sprint TP2, I have the SIM unlock and use the 1.40.00WF
When I first unlocked it I had a lot of issues that were related to the radio rom I was using. The 1.40 radio has given me the best experience, I also updated the PRL. As far as cooked roms, I tried half of them out there but I always come back to MM official. Also if you haven't done so, before you do a custom rom, flash the stock sprint rom, then flash your custom rom, REMOVE your SD card and use the clear storage tool. I know it sounds stupid, but I can notice a difference if I don't do this long @$$ process. |
Re: Is it MY TP2 or do others have problems with cooked ROMS?
I've had some problems with the 2.5 ROMS and I always flash back to stock and then hard reset before each new ROM. With Juicy it would work fine for days and then either Manila would just not load on boot or it would not completely load, the task manager would never appear and it would be extremely sluggish. Another issue with Juicy was that after a few days my Yahoo mail account would decide to try and download my entire email box instead of just the last 3 days of email which would crash the phone because all the program memory was exhausted. After three times of that I moved on.
I tried Energy for a week but it was just too sluggish overall even though I liked all the eye candy. It did not lock up though so points there. Mighty War has been the best so far but I did have an issue after about a week where Manila would not load on boot. I hard reset and it has been fine for about another week so fingers crossed. I think with any of the 2.5 ROMS there are going to be Manila issues but I like the interface enough that I can live with occasional hard reset. |

I just got a TP2 about a month ago and started flashing the ROM. I am also on Sprint and did not like all the extra garbage Sprint puts in there. I have used several ROMs and was trying to push it to get 6.5.3 to work with manilla 2.5. But I don't think is quite stable enough yet. The rom that I first tried was Mighty's Official. After trying all the others, I went back to MightyRom but I had a problem with texting being VERY slow. Turned out that after flashing, I restored from Sprite back assuming my provider provisioning would be taken care of. I was wrong. Once I simply went in and reselected Spring, all my problems went away. It seems to be very quick with about 100 meg more memory than the stock Sprint configuration. It is solid and I am very happy with it. It makes me mad because I am now addicted and I know that as soon as Mike releases a new version, I will upgrade to it. It's going to be a vicious cycle. I don't know why I can't just leave it alone. :) |
Wirelessly posted (Sprint/1.0/HTC_Touch_Pro2_T7380 Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en))
2.5 roms are buggy. hard reset and disable weather animations. those two have made my manila 2.5 much more stable. currently running blackout wm 6.1 and manila 2.5. i do have a minor sms problem. wont go to sms, gotta use the slider to get there after i select a contact. otherwise, pretty good. sms, mms, and emails come and go fine. |

I am using Energy ROM Phoenix 2.1X 01-016-2010 it runs better than the stock windows 6.1 ROM. With all of the added features. Malina 2.1X is my favorite because I have a photo of my wife and myself with a transparent clock. The only problem that I discovered is that it does not work with tellme. Other than that it is the best I have every tried.
But you are right most of the ROMs are buggy. I believe some of the ROM are meant to be run on a PPC with superior hardware specifications and that is why they are sluggish. I have discovered problems with all/rely, them rom freezing up, gps lag issue is the biggest one I have discovered. Some of MMS issues, some have blue-tooth issues, some have better cameras but are really slow. It good thing about the 23558 ROMs are the superior interface they offer the user. The chiefs do an amazing job working around the hardware deficiency. You have to remember most custom ROMs have some kind of short coming. It is up the user to determine what they can live with. GPS is number one my list so I chose the ROMS that offer zero lag with TOMTOM maps. I find that Energy ROM 21889 builds do a great job with that. The guy who does the energy ROM has a very good understand about gps, and his 21889 builds are always on the money. Also I can send 5MB picture and video mails, vcf cards and, voice mail with arcsoft 5.2.1.22 and the 5MB hack. It also works with the 10MB hack too with acrsoft 5_0_9_128c_10M.cab which also can send files attachments. Some other people use different maps which they claim have only a 1 second lag with any ROM. I believe this is BS but, who am I to judge. One particular build 23558 is catchy to the eye and touch with improve camera and interface [verison 1.04] but is extremely sluggish. Hey I found a better soluation to our problem Malrom 01-14-2010 and this cab strra ttn 7.916.9192 this is the best combination for me it even has XDA_UC incorporated into the ROM so it installs all of your cab automatically all you need to do is create a folder called XDA_UC and put your cab in it. This verison of TT has improve rotational features. Which reduce lag time which turning. You can down load it here it also fixes the bluetooth problem so all you need to do is install the cab. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NDLQX1MN One more tid bit of advice I use clean ram about 3 to 5 times a day. It is a simple programs which frees up the memory of your device which prevents it from locking up. |
