Wierd beeping service problem... Sprint. Need a genius!
Hey guys,
I'm having this really wierd problem with my Sprint TP2. Whenever I make a call from my house, I get this two tone beep going into the call. I will then proceed to have horrible service (cutting in and out like a madman) until 5 seconds later I hear the two beeps again (in reverse order) and then my service is normal. I already have bad service at my place, but I can still make phone calls with it. This only happens at my home. It happens to many of the calls but not all of them. Outgoing or incoming are both affected. I called Sprint, went through waves of tech service. Got sent to the ticket team (high tech service?) and now they are just sending me a new phone. I think that I also had this problem with my touch pro if my memory serves me right; I don't believe a new unit will fix it. My theory is that initially my phone is connecting to a device like an AIRAVE or some other signal booster. But, I don't have any of that enabled on my account, so I'm not sure. If anyone has a remote idea on what could be going on, your wisdom is greatly appreciated. |

File this one under 'crazy option' but someone couldn't have gotten a hold of your phone and placed spyware on it?

try this... and this is entirely a hunch.... go into settings and under "phone" there's that option to "notify when voice privacy is unavailable". i have no idea what it actually does but i figure it's worth a shot.

I'm pretty certain it is not software related. I flashed back to stock and same thing. Also, this happened with my TP one here. I'll try the voice privacy thing. It hasn't been doing it lately, but it will most likely return. I'll keep you all posted! Thanks for the help so far. |
Re: Wierd beeping service problem... Sprint. Need a genius!
The symptoms have disappeared for the past 24 hours. I decided to check my PRL and it looks like it has been updated from 60658 to 60659 though I do not recall doing it myself. Sprint must have done it.
This update may have fixed my issue. We shall see. Sprint is still sending me a new phone... Yay I hope! |

Re: Wierd beeping service problem... Sprint. Need a genius!
Why a new phone if its not a problem with a phone....that stuff makes all of our rate go up---when sprint has to shell out money on a problem that doesnt exist in the first place. (you even admited that it was happening on your tp1). I am not attacking you, but bringing up a point that ppl bust chops on sprint too much and in turn we all suffer. Just my 2 cents.
As for your issue: The two tones that you hear on connect is you connecting via VOIP from a local neighbors AIRAVE. This makes sense as if you are not close, you will get horrible service until it drops off of the AIRAVE and swings you back to the cell towers where you will most likely get better service. If you find out who it is that has this AIRAVE that you are picking up on, you can ask them to close out the service so that it limits usage on their AIRAVE to only that subscribers phones. The only downside to that is that if you are close, it may tell you that you are on a private network and to "move away from the private network" to be able to make a call. The PRL (preferred Roaming List) update is a GOOD thing as now your phone probably has MORE options to look for a signal than before which could very well be the reason why its locking onto a tower easier from the update instead of not having that latest prl info and only finding the AIRAVE as the nearest signal to lock onto. If it issue comes back, I would check is to see if your phone network setting are set to AUTOMATIC or SPRINT ONLY. If its maybe you should try changing it from one to another and maybe it will help it from see that AIRAVE. Best of luck. |
Re: Wierd beeping service problem... Sprint. Need a genius!
As others stated, it sounds like you are connecting to an Airave. One thing that might help you analyze it - when the Airave is connecting the second tone is a higher pitch note than the first one, and when it is disconnecting the second tone is lower.
Kind of like: connect = boo-OOP, disconnect = BOO-oop. If nothing else, you can tell whether your signal is better when you are connected to the neighbors Airave or worse because of distance from it. The Sprint guy was wrong about you not being to connect to the Airave. Up to 3 Sprint phones can connect at any one time and it doesn't matter whose phones they are. |

Up to 3 phones can connect to an airrave but you can also choose which numbers get to connect or you can let any one connect to your airrave. Its possible the OP is connecting to a airrave and getting crappy signal ? |

The issue did come back this morning.

BTW, I completely agree with you on Sprint's uselessness for sending me a new phone. I tried to tell the tech I was talking to that I don't believe it will fix anything, but they insisted on sending a new one. I'm having trouble finding where to tell my phone to do Sprint only. I found the option for it to be a global phone or CDMA only, but no Sprint only option. I found an option to where I could choose Home Only or Standard. Is that it? Quote:

So I think we nailed it down to that one of my neighbors (I live in an apartment complex unit) has an AIRAVE that my phone is trying to connect to with poor results. Is there a way I can tell my phone to not connect to an AIRAVE at all? I don't know the neighbors at all so I wouldn't have much luck snooping around for the AIRAVE culprit. Thanks everyone for all your input! This is the true beauty of open forums! |
