Sprite Backup Failures

I downloaded a cab for Sprite Backup in the TP2 tweaks thread. It seems to have installed fine, but whenever I've tried to do a backup I get a failure message. The phone restarts itself just as Sprite advises it will do as part of the process, but after it comes back on the backup has always failed, with no details as to why. I have it set to backup to my storage card to a specific folder I made to hold the info. My card is 4g with maybe a little under 2g free.

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

I had this problem with sprite backup 6.5. With a version number like that, you'd expect it to work with windows 6.5, but I was having problems. Then they upgraded to 6.5.5, which works. I think you just need a newer version.

Same problem here, I made a post about this a while back.

I finally gave up on Sprite (I don't trust it anymore) as I also have SPB Backup & that works perfectly for me.

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

My problem with Sprite has not been backing up, but retoring. I can backup just fine, but when I retore it I am always missing a unch of stuff (or even missing everything).

I gave up on it and switched to SPB Backup. It works every time (so far).

make sure ur restore setting are set to DEVICE and not ROM or SAFE. and leave restore data bases unchecked if your restoring older ROM to a newer ROM.

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

I have found SPB Backup to be a more reliable product than Sprite, for many years now. When Sprite works, it fine, but SPB is more consistent

New to this forum, I am awaiting a TP 2 Sprint, upgrading from the Apache. Yay.
I used Sprite for years on every PPC I've had, until recently.
It just stopped being a reliable program. Have switched to SPB and it's much more reliable.

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

I guess I will just uninstall it unless someone has an updated version they would be willing to post.
Thanks for the feedback.

I agree.

I used to swear by Sprite & posted that many times on this forum.

It was only in the last few months I started having problems with it.

It is odd because SPB BU & Sprite really do basically the same thing, but so far at least SPB has worked perfectly in my TP2 & Sprite has drastically failed.

A BU program I can depend on 100% is absolutely vital to me as I mess with (& screw up) my system constantly & being able to restore it to its previous state with a couple clicks is invaluable.......

I'm really kind of suprised at how this went down for me. Since I had both programs, I was backing up with both each time just to be safe. All of a sudden, Sprite began to fail every single time & SPB went right along working perfectly.

I really had made no significant changes in my system so I am really kind of baffled by this.

Dont forget Resco. I use all 3 without any beef, i prefer Resco

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

I used Resco for a while also. Everytime I made a BU, it would list a bunch of errors involving files etc that I had never heard of (other people reported the same thing)

Even though it was showing these errors, it did seem to work just fine & the few times I used it to do a restore the system did seem to run just fine.

Thanks for the feedback.

Why don't you just get it off their SITE?

SPB is a pay cab, and worked perfect on my Vogue, but not at all on my tp2. So I went with sprite. It works well, but I like spb better.

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

I purchased Sprite Backup and installed it over a trial version (upgraded), but now it won't work. I've been trying to uninstall it, in order to do a clean install. But it won't uninstall. On their site, they say there's a tool that will uninstall it. Anybody have any suggestions?

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

so which of the 2 between spb back up and sktools would you guys recommed? because i understand the both can do a whole system back up of my phone, but SKTools seem to offer a whole lot more as far as feature and sktools is $15 cheaper. not considering the price, which would you guys go for?

HBOOT 02-05-2010 05:02 AM

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

Sktools is a must have app iNMO. for back up and not to throw you off the loop, i say use all 3 that have free trials and decide for your self. I have Resco,Sprite and SPB. None have failed me, but my number one is Resco back up due to its speed, and the possibility of just updating a backup, that takes a minute or two depending.....Sktool, has ton more features, however I do not use it for BU and I trust that product, it can do it.

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

thanks for giving your input HB. since you and a whole bunch of other people has said (posted) that SKTools is a must have, it goes on my list of the things to purchase for my phone. and then take your advice and try out resco and spb first...will try out sprite at a later date.

Re: Sprite Backup Failures

hmmm, kinda stuck with sprite backup since I paid for it already. haven't had any trouble but 1 bad backup out of 100-200 total.
now i am trying to use it to backup through my pc to backup my sd card as well and it is having trouble. very slow to back up a 8gb card. might be asking too much of it. much easier just to add a copy of my card to my laptop once a week.
gonna try it now with backing up just the phone through the pc and see how it goes.

edit: just backed up my phone in 2.5 minutes! 108mb total. That is what I need it to do.
