I would like to view the mobile version of websites on my laptop. but since desktop browsers do not have the abilitity to be reconized as a mobile browser it will only load the desktop version of the site.

This can be accomplished using Firefox with a plugin extension. To check it out click the following - LINK

EDIT - This plugin seems to be a mystery development tool and I haven't found a way to get is functioning properly.

firefox has a plug-in that changes the user-agent

Re: Can you have a mobile browser on a desktop?

This would be accomplished by spoofing the browser's User Agent HTTP request header. Try this Firefox extension, and set the user agent to one that Opera Mini or PocketIE has used.

The 3 inch monitor won't make his browser fetch the mobile version of web pages. :P

Re: Can you have a mobile browser on a desktop?

I thought you could install one of the mobile browsers on your PC, think it was fennec maybe? Not sure if they still allow it though, they used to have a PC version so you could try to find bugs on there.

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/fenn.../releasenotes/

Go down to the Installation area and it gives you links to Linux MAC OS and Windows. I have never used it so idk, also this is the latest release and its still in beta so it will be buggy :P

Run Opera Mini on the desktop using a J2ME emulator.

It works really well if your desktop only has a dial-up connection, and it supports full screen resolution.
