help my phone is stuck on headphone mode . the headphone icon is on and it wont produce any sound. how can i clear this or is it broken?

Try plugging in your headphones abd remove them a few times to untstick the connection..

You also may want to try a tiny bit of WD-40. Just put a small amount of the headphone plung and put it in and out a few times. If you have some dirt in the headset hole, that would cause your problem.

you could also try doing a soft reset or keeping the battery out for a minute or so, if all else fails hard reset.

I've had this phone for a week, and I'm getting this problem as well. I just probe the headphone port with the stylus until the headphone icon disappears. The worst part is it knows when I plug in the headphones, just not when I unplug it. That and double clicking the button in the headphone port redials the phone. Besides this problem, occasional freezing and GPS that almost never works(even outdoors in the open) it's a great phone!](*,)

If you started the phone with the head phones plugged in (either from being off or a soft reset) take the head phones out, and soft reset again and it should go away unless something else is wrong.

Dip your headphone jack on alcohol and push it in and out repeatedly and see if that works.

You can also try grabbing a piece of paper and roll it until is the thickness of the headset and dip it in alcohol and twist it around until the headset jack is cleaned. :drunken:

This happened to me once. If I remember correctly, I plugged my headphones back in and started playing music, while the music was playing I pulled the headphones out and it worked.

I had the same problem. What worked for me and looks like it worked for others here is to plug in a 3.5mm plug in and out a bunch of times. I did it about 50 times and I never had the problem happen again.

i had that problem before and now its back but worst....the first time plugged it in and out 20 times and it removed the headset and it never happened again till last night.

now my charging port is lose and will barely charge, and sometimes when i try to charge my phone the headset icon gets stuck. So im going to have to get it replaced for the loose/faulty charging port and also the 3.5 mm jack

Well if your charging port is loose, then your phone is obviously just flat out "broken" and needs to be fixed/replaced.

But I did have the "phone stuck in headphone mode" problem. I reset the phone. I hard reset the phone. I plugged and unplugged the headset several times. I reset the phone with a headset in. Without a headset in. I blew air in the plug. Nothing worked. I had a replacement sent from Verizon, and was ready to set it up. Then one day, the old phone just started working again, and has been OK for several weeks. Who knows. My guess is just schmootz in the headphone jack was causing contact problems that finally got dislodged.

NO,NO,NO.....Dont be putting alcohol or anything else in your jack....!!! This is a software problem, not a hardware problem....the only way to get rid of it is to RE-BURN the STOCK ROM from your carrier and hard reset after that....Ive had this issue before many of times especially with the earlier custom roms.....

My issue was NOT a software problem. I hard reset the phone back to the Verizon 6.5 ROM several times and it didn't fix the problem. It eventually just "fixed itself". Which to me points to a hardware problem, either a bent contact, a broken contact, or a dirty or clogged contact.

when this happened to me i had to hard reset it is not a physical problem so dont go and stick something in there l unless this happed on a locked phone. i had flash mine back to telus and lock it again to give it back, i tested it before and it worked so i unlocked it and flashed my rom onto it and have not had a problem since its bean over 2 months:)

i've had my tp2 for about 2 months now and this has happened to me twice. the first time i did a soft and hard reset and concluded that it wasnt an electrical/software problem so i did what urantivirus did and i probed the jack with the stylus and it worked. im guessing that the contacts inside the jack are sticking after you unplug the headphones.

off subject about cleaning but anybody have problems with the 3.5 not outputting to an aux port in a car deck.

I did the same thing and it also worked.

I also purchased one of those 2.5, 3.5 mini-usb headphone, mini-usb power plugs from ebay and now I only use that... have not had the problem since.

This happened to me.. I brought it in to the store and they cleaned it out with a q-tip and then blew some compressed air in there. Worked like a charm. They said sometimes a small piece of dust can create a circuit in the small opening causing the headphones to appear to be "plugged in".

Happened to me last night. Flashed back to VZW 6.5, and relocked (just in case I had to make a support call).

After reading this post, grabbed a Chlorox wipe, and pushed it into the headphone jack w/ the stylus. Gave about 20 rotations, and works ok now.

I am guessing the pocket could be an enemy of the jack.

This just happened to me for the first time. I was listening to my phone via headphones last night. When I removed the headphones this morning, the headphone icon stayed on and no sound would come from my phones speaker. Re-inserting the headphones brought up the voice command icon. Sometimes inserting the headphones would cause my phone to redial my last call.

On advice from this thread, I re-inserted the headphones several times (dozen?) and finally the headphone icon went away. Perhaps cleaning the headphone jack with a can of compressed air will help. I do keep my phone in my pocket, so I assume lint and dirt could cause problems.

I had this happen to me a few days ago and soft resetting the phone didn't help. I searched the internet and found an answer in some other forum. It might not work for you but it worked for me the first time. This seems to happen when you have the headphone AND the charger plugged in at the same time. When you unplug the headphone before unplugging the charger, sometimes it'll stay stuck on headphone mode and you'll see the headphone indicator in the notification bar at the top. Soft resetting the phone will not fix this.

To fix this, first plug the headphone and the charger back into the phone, then unplug the charger first, then lastly unplug the headphone. As I said it worked for me the first time. Hope it helps someone!

For my issue, it had to do with the charger since I have never used headphones on my phone. I tried to plug in a jack quite a few times. Flashed to Stock and a variety of others. Ended up taking my phone into the shop and getting a replacement. From what I understood, the circuit on the headphones had been shorted. I don't know the board that well, but it makes sense that if the charger gets plugged in or pulled out just right, it could cause the issue.

Based on what I've read, reset, hard-reset, flash to stock, flash one more time, no joy? Flash and relock then head in for your replacement.

Yeah, it sounds like the usb outlet on the device is messed up. Probably a bent pin or a missing pin or a short in the outlet itself. I guess we all need to be very gentle plugging in our chargers and other accessories. ;)

This is a hardware problem, just the headphone jacks, either the mini-usb or the 3.5mm jack has physical problem.
I had one brand new phone with the same problem, and I went back to the store where I exchanged that and did an exchange again. The repair guy over there told me to use mini-usb headphone which does not come with the phone. (my problem was from the 3.5mm though) and I told them, this is a new phone and I don't want a replacement of a rebuilt phone, I want another brand new phone that has no this problem. This is a side track.
This is just some contact problem in the headphone jacks, so as several people suggested, plug the headphone in and out several times, you will get a chance to fix it. But make sure you don't use alcohol or anything with water in it. Only if you have pure alcohol. Because any water will damage the circuit inside, or cause corrosion. DON'T USE RUBBERING ALCOHOL. High pressure air should be helpful. Be gentle. If you break it, you get more trouble. For the mini-usb, the HTC usb cable is suggested. if you compare the HTC mini-usb with normal, standard mini-usb, you will find that the HTC ones have very thin tongue in the middle, and standard mini-usb cable will charge, and connect the phone with computer but might damage the port if used not carefully.
