"Unable to authenticate your phone" after flashing several roms

So for the past few days I've been flashing through many roms.
I tried vzw's 6.5 stock rom then some malroms, nrg's, and mightyrom. Up until mightyrom i believe i was able to call out, at least voice mail. But now I get an unable to authenticate your phone. I tried flashing back to vzw's 6.5 stock with both data and phone not working. I tried reprogramming, and that got data to work, but I still can't call out. Is my only option to call up vzw to reset it on their end? or could there be another issue that i can fix

I am not sure how VZ does it.. but I would just try to clear the programming and verifiy the information when reprogramming. Whenever that happens on Sprint it is usually the MSID that is wrong.

When you flash to the official ROM it wipes out the A-Key. You have to get a new one from VZW. Dial 611 on your phone (if it still goes to 611) and ask for level 2 tech support. Don't let those numb-nuts in level 1 tech support even try it. When you get to level 2 tech support tell them you upgraded to WM6.5 and lost your A Key and need a new one. It should be 26 digits. When they give it to you, go to the dialer on your phone and dial ##778 then press the call button. Navigate to the section that has the A-Key, hit edit, enter it, and save changes. Phone re-boots and can now authenticate on the network. May happen 2 or 3 times before it sticks for good. Be sure to dial *228 option 1 after it reboots for the first time. Verizon knows about this issue, but its not worth releasing another software patch to fix.

I just called 611 from my phone, couldn't call anywhere else, and the tech said I'll call you back in five minutes. In three minutes he called back and it started working from then on. Piece of cake.

Re: "Unable to authenticate your phone" after flashing several roms

I first tried out just calling 611 and telling them I'm getting the auth error. The guy called me back on a different phone and told me to try *228, 2 but didn't work, so tried *228, 1 restarted and finally i could call again.

Now, I'm looking through ##778 for the auth key as i didn't have to put it in, but it's blank for A-key. I want to reflash the 6.5 but i'm afraid it will happen again.. What do i have to reinput?

I think it only happens once in a while. The same thing happened to me, but I've reflashed (from stock to custom to stock to custom) several times since then and my A-Key hasn't been reset yet. You're just going to have to call again if you run into trouble.

same thing happened to me last week, verizon tech told me its a saftey feature built into the os, i guess the thought is to lock out a phone if it gets stolen. i dont know if i beleive him, but thats what he told me.

For future reference. Rather than calling Verizon, if you have another phone, just activate that, then reactivate your TP2. That will generate a new A-key and save you the phone call to Verizon.
