slingbox can connect via wifi but not data connection =(
 

i recently bought a slingbox solo and am having trouble connecting to my Slingbox with my TP2. i can connect via wifi, but not with Sprint data connection. when i try to connect, it says "Locating" and then "Unable to connect to Slingbox".

i know the Slingbox ID is correct because it works immediately when connected via wifi. another friend of mine also has Sprint and a Slingbox has it working with his TP2. any suggestions?

Is the WiFi on the same network as the Slingbox? If so, you probably need to forward the port to the Slingbox.

If your WiFi is being broadcast from the same router than the Slingbox is connected to, then you are on the same LAN as the Slingbox. In that case, it's not a matter of it only working through WiFi (as WiFi won't work either if you go to any other location and use their WiFi). It would be a matter of the firewall in your router filtering out, or blocking the traffic on the port your Slingbox is using.

Just set up port forwarding in your router. Make sure you have the correct port forwarded to your Slingbox (you can set the port it is using).

Are you connecting with the WiFi network your slingbox is on? I had this happen when i first set mine up. I didn't finish setting up the network/modem. You have to go into your modem setup and open one of the ports. The slingbox setup has a good walk through, though. You have to do port forwarding on port 5001.

the strange thing is that when i tether my ipod touch to my phone using wifirouter, i can watch tv on my touch no problem.

if yes its the phone but if no its your network set up

TP2 works fine with Slingbox using Sprint's data connection (other than the crappy resolution).

Check your port forwarding/firewall settings.

sweeeet! finally got it working. did the slingbox network setup assistant and reset the router and all is well. thanks everyone!
