[Utility] Easily switch to roaming

1 Attachment(s)
Here is an utility to easily switch to Roaming without having to go through all the phone settings or registry hacks.

Original link for Touch Pro: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=104097 <-- PLEASE THANK THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR!!

The above did not work correctly with the Touch Pro 2, so I modified it with the author's permission to make it work with our phones, and created a cab for easy installation / uninstall. Hope it helps! :-)

This looks pretty cool, thanks. Is mortscript required or anything?

tok 01-11-2010 04:09 PM

Re: [Utility] Easily switch to roaming

Nothing required, other than .NET 2.0, which is included already in most roms.

EDIT: Does not seem to work with the stock rom (Sprint only?). For people having issues, what error message are you getting?

Great work. It looks really nice, but one question for you.

Doesn't pretty much every carrier have free nation wide roaming now? If so, why don't you just leave it on automatic all the time instead of switching?

if you're in a weak signal area your phone will continue to switch back and forth between your home signal and your roaming signal. This will kill the battery faster then anything else. putting it on roaming only will save your battery life.

Ah, ok.

Thanks for the clarification.

Works wonderfully on Mighty 1/04. Thanks!

Re: [Utility] Easily switch to roaming

A nice addition or separate utility would be to adjust when the phone switches over to roaming automatically. Lately Sprint has been trying desperately to keep me on their network and only letting me switch After my call is dropped :( If we could adjust the threshold that would be great.

Works great here... thanks given. Love it.

Now if I could figure how to get that Mode of Operation screen on the phone options like I had on the Touch Pro. Any ideas on this one?

Here is the Registry edit for enabling Hidden Phone Settings "Mode of Operation" option to pick 1X mode only.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting

Change the option HiddenModeOperationPage from 1 to 0

Then go to Phone/menu/option/service/and check in the list, "Mode of Operation" should be at the bottom. You have 3 choices, Hybrid, EVDO, and 1X.

Hope this helps...

Best to all,
R

Re: [Utility] Easily switch to roaming

Unfortunately I do not use the stock rom, so it's not that easy to troubleshoot this...

I've just updated the cab... please download it from the first post again, or from here.

If it is still crashing, can anyone post the entire text that shows up after it crashes? The screenshot is not showing everything. Thanks.

Can you confirm this works on the Touch Pro 2? I checked this setting and it does not work as I found the same option set on my TP, that works. I found a few other threads that say this does not work on the TP2.

My bad digiblur, the registry edit does not work on the TP2. At this point, I'm not sure how to lock in on 1x only. If a solution pops up, I'll make sure to post.

Best to all,

Re: [Utility] Easily switch to roaming

Thanks for this. The one I use switches between automatic and roaming. I like how this lets me pick home only.

Re: [Utility] Easily switch to roaming

Using the stock rom here also and getting the same error. I have the reg changed so it can be forced to roam only so I don't know what the issue is. This would be great if it worked so I am going to type the whole error message for you in hopes it can be fixed.

Hey sorry I dont know anything about cabs, but is there any chance you could add an option to change the Mode of Operations (Hybrid EVDO or 1x) to this cab?

Thanks! =D> It works great, and is exactly what I needed - I get great service everywhere except at home, and the shortcut makes it SO much more convenient to change the settings.
