Help with Sprint TP2
Greetings all,
Unfortunately, I'm new to this unlocking stuff and probably jumped the gun on unlocking this phone before it was activated on the Sprint network. Here's my story, I bought a Sprint Touch Pro2 off of eBay brand new because I heard it could be used on the AT&T network. I used the unlocker from htc-unlocks and, although the phone now connects to the AT&T network, I'm unable to use it I guess because the phone has not been activated. Is there a way around this? Also, I noticed the phone can detect a wifi network but when I open the opera browser on the phone it asks me to enter a Sprint phone number. Is there anyway around this also? Sorry if this is not the proper place to ask but if someone could direct me to where I could find the answer I would appreciate it! Thanks for your time! UPDATE: Phone is now working on AT&T! Thanks everyone for your help. Now I am curious about some other minor things. Is there anyway to make the "Hands free activation" page go away? Since I don't need to get it activated, it's just kind of annoying (but a small price to pay in order to enjoy a great phone). Also, how can I configure my web browser to connect only to my WIFI so I don't get charged if it tries to connect to the Edge Network? Thanks! |
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
are u currently cvonnected to a wifi network via conenction manager? if so, u would either need to disable the radio so that teh phone only see the wifi conenction as a data source.
im not sure about ur cannot use it on ATT network issue. maybe set ur radio to GSM only. |
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
That's the default website on Sprint phones in Opera Mobile...just go down to the far right folder button in Opera, and go up to settings. Click on start page, then enter in the website you want your phone to start up with, example mine is http://www.google.com. This should allow you to use a different webpage on the TP2... This phone is capiable of GSM but I'm not sure for domestic GSM or for Foreign GSM...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)
go to settings/phone/networks and make sure GSM ONLY is selected. |
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
Ok. Wifi is working (Thanks Chris)! My phone still isn't working. I unlocked it to use on AT&T and set the phone on GSM mode. I've unlocked the radio so it detects the AT&T network but I still can't make any calls. I think it's because the phone has not been activated yet since it's brand new out of the box for Sprint. At start up I get a screen that says "Hands free activation" but says it cannot be completed because it can't connect to the network (I guess Sprint's network). Then another screen pops up saying "network configuration" and it's unable to complete because it can't connect to the network. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
Boss - Unless you have your phone activated on some network ie - AT&T You won't be able to make calls. You have to call them up and give them your ESN or HEX so they can register your phone on the network. If you pull the battery or have the box the sticker on the back or on the box should have those ESN HEX,DEC on it. The phone doesn't know where to connect to because of this. Theres also a chance that AT&T won't allow that phone on there network, because it's from Sprint and uses CDMA/GSM. It doesn't hurt to try though. Just call up your carrier...AT&T and see if they will activate it on there end...and hopefully you already have an account with them. If they are able to activate it you may also need to get a data plan...Just call them and see...Good Luck.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
Yeah, that's what I'm fearing. I'm pretty sure AT&T is not going to activate a device on their network if they don't know what it is (I'm not sure if it's even possible for them to do). I thought I could use a program that would get the code to activate the phone. I've been trying to research this and I've seen Sprint uses an SPC code to activate their phones but I don't know if it will work. I see a program that uses MSID and ESN to get a SPC code. I pressed ##778# to get a ESN and MSID but don't know if they are "dummy numbers" since the phone has never been activated.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
his problem is not that he doesn't/can't get it to work on att, it's that he can't get past the initial "sprint" activation screen/software. if the phone had been setup to work on sprint's network, then unlocked it would have bypassed the sprint new activation. this is an entirely different problem. you'll have to get a friend to activate it on sprint, and then switch their phone back after. not a big deal, you can do reprogramming online without an agent. that is, if you have a friend that will allow you to do this

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
to the op, try changing the band while in gsm mode. i'm on my tp2 now, so i can't get all the links for you. but go to the sim unlocker thread, the last 2 pages have instructions on changing your band. hope it helps!

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
@Christopher - Exactly! Problem is I don't know anyone who has Sprint. I'm thinking about just calling Sprint to activate the phone by signing up for an account and then cancelling it (probably not going to do it...but I am thinking about it...lol).
@Dr. - I don't have my phone with me to test that now but I will when I get home. Thanks for the suggestions! |
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
From what I understand this phones gsm bands are set up to work on the international bands. 800/1900mhz (i think thats right, its been a while) I think att uses an 850mhz band. Sprint did this to keep ppl off the domestic gsm carriers. you might be hosed.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
even after unlocked on att, you will either need the phone activated on sprint, or an active ATT sim card to place calls. borrow one of your friends SIMS, pop it in the phone, and see what happens.
Note that on the GSM side, it will only be 2G, as it lacks the American GSM 3G bands for ATT and Tmobile. And it takes a little bit of editing to get the internet to work, though it should make calls and send SMS's just fine. |
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
I have a question about my Sprint TP2: Any new download of Mobile Shell removes the task manager from the top right corner. Any help?
(I know, unrelated) |
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
first off i want to make sure we are talking about the same terms here. your phone needs to be sim unlocked. (the unlocker you have to pay for). when you do buy it, it's a 3 stage process but it will not only unlock your phone to be able to flash roms but it will unlock your sim so that you can use an ACTIVE at&t sim card and it will recognize the network. i'm pretty sure you don't need to "activate" a phone on at&t's network, just make sure the sim card is active and you should be good. once you're sure that your phone is "sim unlocked", and you have a good sim card in it, go into settings and switch the phones band to gsm and you should be good to make and receive calls.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
@DAD - I have an active AT&T SIM card. When I put it in the phone it still won't let me make calls. I thought after I SIM unlocked it and flashed the radio to detect AT&T's network that I would be able to use the phone. Unfortunately, it's a no go so far. Thanks for the suggestion though.
@tr0s - yeah the phone is SIM unlocked. I "donated" and got the SIM unlocker from htc-unlocks which flashed the hardSPL, flashed the radios, and SIM unlocked the phone. My phone recognizes my SIM as a GSM SIM and detects the AT&T network but something is keeping my phone from being able to make calls. That's why I'm thinking it needs to be activated first (still not sure). If I have an active AT&T SIM card, should it let me make calls although the phone did not go through Sprint activation? Also another poster said I need to select GSM mode and then select "gsm/umts services then band. tap get settings and select gsm(1900+850)+umts(1900+850)" Don't have my phone with me now so I will try this when I get home. Thanks for your help. |
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
once you change from auto to manual and change the band, you should be cooking with oil.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
@Dr. - Phone is now working on AT&T! Thanks for your help. I did everything else but I just needed to change the band. Now I am curious about some other minor things. Is there anyway to make the "Hands free activation" page go away? Since I don't need to get it activated, it's just kind of annoying (but a small price to pay in order to enjoy a great phone). Re: Help with Sprint TP2
i'm glad you have it working, boss! i need a favor from you...i'm using t-mobile, but some of you are using at&t. when you get a chance, drive around a while in gsm mode and use your phone. let me know if your signal fades or if you have to keep connecting manually to the network, thanks!

Re: Help with Sprint TP2

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
what's up bro! it's working for me, now i'm trying to figure out why it's not working for others. but we'll figure this out. if you get stuck doing yours, just drop me a line.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
will do man. In my case it will be strictly international GSM isht , nomsayin...:evil4:

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
@ Dr. - I will try driving around with it to see if it loses signal. I don't have it with me today because I got so excited that it worked last night that I didn't want to risk messing anything else up and left it at home until I had more time to play with it.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
Okay...network dropped for the first time tonight. Worked well all evening until I went out into the garage and apparently hit a "dead zone". I know from looking around the other forums that there is not a fix for it (yet). I played around with network settings and on "band" under the "GSM/UMTS services" tab and where it says "select your network type" I selected "auto" so when my phone dropped the network it prompted me to register on the AT&T network and when I clicked register I was connected back to the AT&T network. It didn't do it automatically but I didn't have to go back through the whole "manually select your network" bit.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
OK...follow up question. Does anyone know the AT&T data and MMS settings to use on the touch pro 2? Or will these not work either?
|
Re: Help with Sprint TP2
i haven't seen seen any around, but i'll see if i can find some people with data. i'm only getting talk and text.

Re: Help with Sprint TP2
Thanks Dr. I appreciate it.
