Help! Sprint TP2 sim unlocked on Tmobile

I have a question about tmobile service on a sim unlocked Sprint TP2. A few days ago, I gave my GF a Sprint TP2 after I paid to get the sim unlocked. Anyways, tmobile worked, but in certain areas like near her work, she couldn’t get service, so no calls or texts whatsoever, but when she gets home the tmobile service is working again.

Is there a reason she might have no service in some areas? I setup the phone to only use GSM service and I did manual settings and selected Tmobile. Do you guys think maybe tmobile might have a different voice band in different locations that the Sprint TP2 can’t pick up and that’s the reason she gets no service? She only wants the phone for talk and text and doesn’t need the data.

No, when she uses her regular old cheapo phone, it works fine. I think maybe its the bands that the TP2 can't pick up.

The bands are set to auto, what bands does tmobile use?

i had to go manual and my band is gsm(1900+850)+umts(1900+850). i haven't had a problem yet. try it and let me know if it works.

Isn't the TP2 quadband GSM though?

ok, i think tmobile uses 850/1900 for voice, I gotta check if the tp2 supports those

It does, like I said above, the TP2 is quadband for GSM.

Ok confirmed fix. Thanks for everyone's help. For future reference, I’ll list step by step settings for someone with a Sprint TP2 with unlocked SIM to be able to reliably use the TMOBILE and ATT network. This probably also works with Verizon TP2 if you unlock the SIM.

Someone should make a sticky of this.

1. To go phone dial pad, select MENU and select OPTIONS.

2. Select the NETWORK tab on the bottom, under MODE OF OPERATIONS drop down box, select GSM ONLY.

3. Select the GSM NETWORK SELECTION dropdown box and select MANUAL. Than select your service provider, ATT or TMOBILE.

4. Select the GSM/UMTS SERVICES tab, highlight BAND and select GET SETTINGS

5. On the SELECT YOUR NETWORK TYPE drop down box, select GSM.

6. On the SELECT YOUR GSM/UMTS BAND drop down box, select GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850). You should be all done, select the OK to exit and your good to go on GSM.
