I love how Winmo can multitask and run different programs, but I'd like to know how I can make the X button close the program instead of minimize it (or at least make it so holding X for 3 seconds closes the program.

Task manager>tools>buttons>change it.

this is wrong, and does not work on 6.5.x roms.

isnt it settings->task manager->button-> there are your options!

im running MM 12/30 rom, isnt that a 6.5 rom?

it may be a 6.5 ROM, but the title of the thread is 6.5.3 :). You need a different app than htctaskmanager to close with the x button. ameba works well.
