Re: Fix/Workaround for 2016 Issue

I didn't read all the posts, but some of my texts are dated this year and some are not. Can that be explained?

I had always thought that the reason texts are dated 2, 3 or even more hours later when I am roaming had to do with the tower that relayed the text imprinting it's own time stamp. But perhaps I was incorrect in my guess.

I'm not doing the fix as it's not that important to me, I am more interested in the root cause of it.

The root cause, at least what I can tell is in the assembly code I already posted in #193. It is in RILPHONE.dll, it's converting the date improperly from Binary Coded Decimal. It's just that I haven't worked in assembly in longer than I'd care to say, but it was on an IBM CS1, if anyone even knows what that is, and if you do, you probably know me.

The only reason I still have 'Fix' in the thread title, is that for some, this would be considered a fix. VZW has this set as default, until 1 Jan while sitting in IRC and Sci mentioning this, I didn't even realize that you could find out when a SMS was actually sent.

I'm not sure if this is of help to anyone, but I looked at the VZW MR1 release yesterday, and RILPHONE.dll has changed a little in the functions that convert the dates. I'm not sure if any of the Chef's plan on using the OEM's from it to build any newer releases to see if it fixes the issue. I really have no desire to go back to 2.1, so I haven't flashed MR1, but anyone else that wants to, go ahead. Once flashed, change the key to 0, since VZW sets it to 1, and see if it works.

Another way instead of downloading something is to just change the year in your phone to 2016...... Calender is the same until end of feb hopefully by then microsoft will have resolved the issue

I had the same problem so I tried the following and it worked perfectly.

Copied XML from step one and opened it in NOTEPAD
Used Find/Replace to replace /2016 with /2010 and saved.
Then do the same as in Ziggy's instructions. I had over 1000 sms messages so it took a while but worked perfectly.

Just for info Ziggy's cab is all over the net and I'm glad that the forums and sites are giving him credit

Tried this and it worked like a charm! Thank you!

Thanks Eye,

Yeah it is all over the web, and now someone over on the Sprint Board has taken my name and is calling himself Ziggy. The file he posted appears to be my cab, just renamed. He signed up 3 Jan 2010, and claims he fixed the problem, interesting, considering that I started this thread 1 Jan 2010, or would that be 1 Jan 2016, since the fix was just posted, it's hard to say. I just have to try and live up to my avatar, so it might have really come from the future.

What makes it even more interesting, Sprint had been saying that it was their 'official' workaround, but we decided that since I didn't copyright it, I don't get any royalties, at least that was the discussion in IRC the other day. lol

Have you been monitoring that Sprint board thread? The fake Ziggy is really trying to rally the troops, maybe you should post a message to shut him up?

I think that's a better idea.

The only reason I found it is I google'd 'Ziggy 2016', which is what I had done on 2 Jan and it just showed what I had posted, just hadn't looked since then. It's even on the Japanese and Chinese boards now.

good idea...

bad thing is that if you have a lot of recurring appointments, birthdays, etc. on your calendar, there will be a lot of notifications to dismiss after making the change.

I joined and posted over there.

I'm not even using this fix, but what bugs me the most about this is that he is actually asking for donations!
